Do you believe the court will side with liberty or the government?
I believe the court will side with the Constitution.
I certainly hope so. There is nothing in the constitution that grants the power to government to force its citizens to buy anything.
Liberals could probably find a kitchen sink in there.

The Constitution limits government, not the people.

Pat,

Why do you get to decide what liberty is for others? Because you believe that giving back something to the nation is acceptable does that mean everyone has to agree? If you believe in individual freedom and liberty then each young man drafted would have the right to say yes or no. Then same goes for jury duty and being ordered to aid the police.

What is your stance on the use of "stop loss" in the military? That certainly goes beyond what each soldier owed as he already paid it. Yet if they were allowed to leave at the expiration of their legal contract it would have jepardized the current operation.

Chris,

You don't make me feel bad. You haven't changed. You complain about your loss of liberty then sit and hope that someone else gets it back for you.

ken "You complain about your loss of liberty then sit and hope that someone else gets it back for you."

That beats celebrating your slavery in silence since you don't see voicing opinion as action in itself. There are those who listen and in turn tell others.

Where have I indicated I expect anyone to get it back? Why make things up, ken? Don't project your love of government dependence on me please.

If you re-read my previous post Ken, i was referring to myself in answering your questions. I then went on to state that it is none of my business how other people live their lives or the decisions they make. I never said I was in favor of the draft.

I joined the army after college and did so because I wanted to give back something. I agree that the draft suppresses freedom of choice. And since it favors politicians kids and influential people's kids over the rest, it should have been stricken down by congress before it was. The college student deferments and deferments to those who had kids was a farce too. But that's a subject for another thread.
