Having personally witnessed events like this play out, my counsel would be to refrain from judging Coach Paterno and any of the other school leaders who have been caught up in this media firestorm. Lives and reputations can be ruined...as the feeding frenzy takes hold.

Do you really think those are concerns of many on thisd and other forums, Mike? I fully agree with you. As I listened to
ESPN's coverage immediately after watching the press conference of the Board of Trustees, I heard an explanation that made more sense to me. The Board of Trustees wants the scandal to go away. They realized that if Joe were kept on as the coach for even this weekend, he would have a press conference following the game. At that conference, most of the questions from reporters would focus on t the scandal. That would simply extend the life of the scandal. So, their only business decision was to fire him immediately so that no such after ghame press conference with Joe would take place. That made sense to me. What wasn't said, but certainly implied was that Joe was picked to "take the fall" as the "scapegoat" in order that the scandal go away more quickly.

I think Lowell, it is hard to say what was driving the decision to fire the coach and President of the university yesterday. Emotions and fear had to be running high in the behind the scenes discussions.

I don't believe they know where this story is going to end or what the eventual damage will be. it is better to sleep on decisions such as these than act out of haste.

If Paterno had been in the california (and several other states) university system , he would be facing criminal charges. The law is pretty straight forward. A coach , teacher , Docter , ETC. that has evidence of child sexual abuse is required by law to report it to the police and child protective services , not to some administrater or his boos.
I will repeat what I said before. At the very least I think he is guilty of a lack ethics and good judgement.

You don't seem to comprehend a lot of things on this issue, Pat.
Nah Jim, I just have the ability to focus, and sift through the BS and get to the bottom line. It's served me well in life.
Simple fact.............Palerno knew of the sexual assaults and did not want it made public so he became party to sweeping it under the rug. He admitted that he "reported" it sop he is by no means innocent.

No normal person would have just "reported" it to their boss and went on their merry way.........

Correction: Simple fact.............Palerno Paterno knew of the sexual assaults allegations of sexual asslualts . . . . He assumed that the proper authorities would be notivied and carry on the investigations of those allegations.

Like I said before It's a good thing for him he's not in California as he would be facing charges right now. I believe they would be felony charges.

From what I understand about Joe Paterno, if he were working in California he would follow California law just as he has followed Pennsylvania law.

Correction: Simple fact.....any person with a moral compass that cares about others would do more then "what the school" required him to do. With such a hideous crime any decent person would have followed through with the police. Not simply figured the school would "handle" it.

Simple fact..........he knew that the suspect was not arrested or brought up on charges. So claiming he "assumed" it would be handled is not a good enough answer here..............sorry
