No agenda at all Colo, just experience with life and common sense. When I see a bad guy caught with a smoking gun standing over a store clerk, I choose to accept as truth the obvious. |

The media (and critic) focus has been on Joe Paterno. If he seemed bigger than the University President, the Board of Trustees, and even the State Governor, maybe it's because he did more for that University and have more of a positive affect on young people's lives than all the rest combined. But does that mean that he didn't fail on a major issue of not following up on what he reported?... No it doesn't. But if he reported it to the AD, I can't imagine that that AD, who is really peanuts in the overall scheme of things at Penn State, didn't pass it on to the University President. And I can't imagine that the President didn't pass it on to at least some of the Board of Trustees. Garbin, chairman of the Trustees has been there forever. He was a senior captain on the football team when I was a freshman in 1958 along with Galen Hall and Anderson, Rip Engle was the head coach, Paterno his assistant, Sandusky still in high school and the graduate assistant not even born yet. He had to have some knowledge of what was reported, that a young graduate assistant walked in on the unspeakable acts of Jerry Sandusky, another that the sports news media want to hang (and can you imagine what has gone through that young graduate assistant's mind since that day.... " Lord, why did it have to be me that walked on that icon Sandusky in that moment... why me?). We all know what the sports news media individual critics and the rest of the righteous world would have done if they were in Mike McQueary's shoes as a young grad assistant, new on the job... they would have made all the great and righteous decisions, maybe even have attacked Sandusky physically. You do that in your dreams when you need to feel some self righteous worth about yourself. They all failed the young victims. And Matt Millen, on ESPN in tears. He was on the board of the Second Mile along with other former players. How could they not know of the sins of Sandusky especially in light of the 1998 accusations (which were kept quiet on all levels) and the DA of Centre County dismissing those charges.... or not acting on them. What about state officials who were involved in those proceedings, knowing that Sandusky had founded and operated the Second Mile for disadvantaged children... they had no concerns about what they knew? Paterno did what he was legally required to do. He notified the AD. What he didn't do, was what the higher up should have done..... the moral follow up for the sake of those innocent children victims and every other innocent student, player, assistant coach and fan. It's a shame that one man (Sandusky), an evil David, can bring down a giant of a man, a university, it's sports program, and a spirit. Do we know his name? But, one thing we do know, we can all feel comfort in knowing full well that each and every one of the sports news media critics, the media in general and all of us righteous peoplem that we would all have made all the right decisions on the actions of each of the individuals involved at the time of the involvement. We would have made all the right moral decisions, acted swiftly and with accuracy and deadly force to snuff out a Sandusky and it wouldn't have taken ten years. We would have done it in a day. |

But you are totally ignoring the bad guy. Sandusky is the bad guy. Have you said anything about him? Is ignoring him indicative of tacit approval of his actions. Of course I don't think so in your case, Pat. It just seems strange that you are condemning, a man that did what he was supposed to do, a man that, to this time, has not been found guilty of anything, a man that has done more for that University than any of those judging him. Just sayin'. What is your motivation? |

In reality Ban, Joe was the royalty in all of this. Considering the rest of your points, it appears that at Penn State University, a culture was developed and nurtured that intimidated all, from the president on down, into following the company line. Morality be damned. I think the Board of Trustees recognized this and therefore has cleaned house. Maybe the trustees were in fact part of this culture as well, and are merely reacting to the fact that the rest of America is so utterly dumbfast that such a culture existed, they have been forced to take these measures. Especially given that congress is now apparently looking into the education system itself in Pennsylvania as a result of this event. I can't for the like of me comprehend why somebody wouldn't cal the cops, but then again, I don't live in the culture of Pennsylvania or that University. Some here believe how this has been handled was normal and acceptable. I can't comprehend that position either. |

My focus Jim has been on the captain of the ship. I think my remarks have been clear that pedophiles such as Sandusky need to have been removed from any possibility of repeating their actions against another child. which is why the cops should be called when allegations like this are shared. Personally, I think a 'wild west' solution to the former coach is warranted, but by merely stating that preference, will send some here right through the ceiling. You know, the same ones who believe brutal dictators deserve their day in court. |

You haven't figured out yet that Paterno has been made the scapegoat. Methinks they have gone after the wrong guy. Do you also think that Joe should have been judge, jury and executioner, too? |

Like I said, PSU football is like Jim Jones and his band of followers. Paterno did nothing to correct the problem. All part of the Happy Valley mentality. I hope ole Joe has deep pockets for all the lawsuits coming his way.

Nah Jim, I just have the ability to focus, and sift through the BS and get to the bottom line. It's served me well in life. |
