Local Walmart started about a month ago. Halloween went out and Christmas came in. What happened to Thanksgiving?

No money in Thanksgiving.

The local Home Depot had Christmas stuff up last month.

Why is it crazy, Thumper? It's capitalism and the free market at work. Other than a few complaints on the web, people don't seem to have any problems with the early arrival of the Christmas shopping season. If they did and they registered complaints AND avoided shopping in those stores, the stores would stop the practice.

Apparently the people don't and so the stores won't.

I'm already fed up with the ads.

We're go all American this year. No present made in China, India, Korea, Japan, Europe, you name it. Gift certificates from local hair salons, oil changes from the local garage, etc.

What ads? We don't watch TV, so never see the Xmas ads. Ads in the newspaper are easily ignored and 99% of the radio listening is to classical music on NPR. If music in the stores becomes objectionable, I put on my Zune with the music I want to hear.

The wife gets me a subscription to The New Yorker every year and I buy season tickets to the Georgia Shakespeare Festival. And we each buy each other's season pass to the Atlanta Symphony. The ASO runs until May and the Shakespeare Festival starts in June, so we are sharing our Christmas gifts all year long.

Stuff - we buy enough of our own stuff during the year and don't need to buy more for Christmas.

As I was exiting the local Denny's restaurant yesterday I noticed two staff members carefully applying a large poster to the window adjacent to the door.

I stopped and inquired what it was...a new special? The fella looked at me and said it was the holiday special. Which holiday i asked? He stared at me with a blank face and said he didn't know. I told him I understood, given that from Memorial Day to now it all seems to have been blurred together into a constant retail spiel.

I passed a sign in town today that said, "only 45 more shopping days until Christmas". It will be here before you know it.
