The next election is a year away, and already the horrendously negative ads are hitting the airwaves. We have had a couple here in Michigan. One is an ad by Americans For Prosperity, making unfounded accussations that Obama is steering money to businesses like Solyndra as a trade for campaign contributions. And, another just as bad depicting politicians who voted against EPA clean air policy as feeding lead etc. to a baby sitting in a high chair. |

I read today to expect Obama and the democrats to run the dirtiest and mo most negative campaign imaginable. The article also said that there has never been a president re-elected with a 9% unemployment rate. |

I agree Paul, the dirty politics of America is slowly creeping north. fortunate, we do not have the same level of religious nuts, so perhaps the effect will be minor. |

I don't see dirty politics simply as a Religeous nuts case. It is more pervase than that. I blame a good part of it on the likes of Limbaugh the father of political dirty tricks and hatred. |

I think just on the Republican side it's going to get very bloody. Was it Perry's campaign staff that sicced the press onto Cain's transgressions? It's gonna be a fun year! |

Yawn. The Complete History of Dirty Politics: "Historian and author Joseph Cummins is no stranger to the dirty underside of the American democratic process. His latest book, Anything for a Vote: Dirty Tricks, Cheap Shots, and October Surprises, chronicles the campaign smears, attacks, and misdirections that have typified U.S. elections since George Washington‘s win in 1789. The upshot of Cummins’s book: campaigns are no dirtier now than they were in the past." |
