My family and recent ancesters were all business people and stauch Republicans as I have been. Both my sister I are about to break from this Republican cluster phutz. Starting with Bush Two, the GOP is going to hell in a hand basket. The current and recent past war mongering, obstructionism, and sorry bunch of Republican Presidential candidates make me want to barf. I feel I am not alone here. Anyone else bout had it with the Republicans?

And the Democrats are any better? Obama, who now tells us what God wants, come on.

Agree on Bush. Agree on the current crop of crapola social con and neocon candidates, except Cain, who I won't vote for but could live with, and Paul, who I'll probably write in, if I even bother to vote.

I think, or hope, because the pols in the capital no longer represent the people, there will be a sea change coming bringing political power back to the state and even local level. --Oops, sorry, slightly off topic.

I think you both make good points. National and state politics has become what I think the founding fathers most feared, under control of special factions. Big money determines who is elected and big money is who is represented by the folks who are supposed to represent us. It makes no difference which of the two major parties they belong to.

I have never belonged to a political party and choose to sort out the candidates and decide which comes closest to representing my values. The line has become so blurred, it will be difficult in 2012 to determine if any represent my values.

I've had several e-mail exchanges with my great nephew recently and at 22 is fairly representative of his generation. They are well aware of the fact that if they don't change things, then they have little if any hope for a prosperous future. Revolution does not sound like an evil term to them, nor do they feel in allegiance to the government. We are entering uncharted waters.

I have always voted straight Republican thinking it would be best for our country. No more. I will vote for each candidate on his merits, not party affiliations.

I pretty much have voted straight republican too, with the exception of voting for Ross Perot when he run as a third party candidate. I voted for Obama last presidential election, even though he is more liberal on some issues than me. The pendulum does have to swing back the other way every now and then. I voted for GW Bush both times, and staunchly defended his policies. But, it became apparent to me we needed a change of direction, particularly after the financial meltdown and bailout. I thought McCaine and Palin would not be enough of a change from the Bush presidency. To his credit Obama has been more centrist than expected, but you wouldn't know it from the declarations of the right wingers. They are still convinced he is an evil lib at best and possibly the antichrist. Which is a testament to the effectiveness of the right wing propoganda machine. If Romney had got the nomination last time I would have probably voted for him. He really is a moderate Republican, but the Tea Party pressure on Republicans has got him flip flopping like a mackeral out of water.

I wish there were a campaign law wherein candidates must wear a jacket with sewn on patches of the corporate and special interest organizations that own them.

In reality, you are voting for a corporate, environmental, labor union, religion or other interest when you vote for a candidate. We should at least be shown who they are.

I have been reading these forums with interest for over ten years.
I have yet to understand why anyone attempting to raise a family
on less than a hundred thousand a year would even consider voting Republican!

What have they ever done for you?

About the same as Democrats, nothing positive. Which is why I asked why.
