How do you know a living creature hasn't evolved without being able to do DNA testing? Unless the organism is extant or only died out in the last few thousand years and organic material remains, your statement about stopping and starting evolution is hard to support. And what sort of time frame are you going to measure the difference between starting and stopping and just slow evolutionary change?

15 'new' bird species revealed in North America

DNA testing has revealed 15 "new" species of birds in North America and six "new" species of bats from the South American country of Guyana, according to a paper appearing in the British journal Molecular Ecology Notes.

Examining 643 bird species, an international team of scientists were surprised to find look-alike birds are actually separate species that do not interbreed.

"People have watched birds for so long we might think every different tweet has been heard, every different color form observed," said Dr. Paul Hebert of the Biodiversity Institute of Ontario, Guelph University, Canada. However, "there are a number of cases of deep genetic divergences within what are currently called single species."

You are making claims here that I don't think can be supported unless you can produce DNA evidence showing the most ancient orca is genetically identical to the most recent. When did the orca reach its comfort zone and why is it suspected there are 3 species of Orca?

There are at least three to five types of killer whales that are distinct enough to be considered different races, subspecies, or possibly even species. The IUCN reported in 2008, "The taxonomy of this genus is clearly in need of review, and it is likely that O. orca will be split into a number of different species or at least subspecies over the next few years."

Only the disruption of their zone, through climate, vulcanism, etc. moved them to another round of evolution.

A restatement of Punctuated Equilibrium. It also doesn't address the problem of knowing what drove a round of evolution. Even if the meteor strike did happen 63 million years ago and killed off the dinosaurs, does that say anything that can be proven about the evolution of mammals?

I wonder where the Venus fly Trap fits into this discussion. Does it have a symbiotic relationship with the bugs that live in it's habitat?

I'd say it was more predatory than symbiotic. Do you consider our relationship to cows to be symbiotic?

Nope, but it does say a lot about the adapatability and evolutionary variability of dinosaurs.

I agree. A 160 million year run ain't too bad! Wonder if mammals make it that long.
