David Plotz, a non-practicing and not-sure-he-believes-any-of-that-stuff Jew decided that he'd sit down and read the bible from start to finish. When a Jew talks about the bible he's only talking about the Old Testament, of course.

Coming from a strongly secular point of view and without any reference (well, very little) to the biblical literature, his exploration of the bible is both funny and an interesting journey to follow. It's an interesting introduction to what the bible says without having to go through all those begats!

This old secular humanist is having a good time reading the book. You can take that any way you like.
