Decades ago in seminary, I was taught that by asking questions, students are empowered with a need to dig deeper...to think more about what the message was, rather than simply the text of the story being told.

I thought that an informal personal study of the Book Of Acts might be fun here in this forum. You can read along or study alone... or if you choose.. jump in and add your insights. There are no grades. All are welcome...

Starting with Luke, chapter 1, I'll ask a few questions and let you the reader post what you have found. Regardless of whether there are any answers or questions posted, I'll continue on from time to time, assuming there is studying going on in silence.

Read Luke 1:1-4, 24:44-53 and Acts 1:1.
How does Luke assure us of the historical accuracy of both books?

According to Acts 1:-1-2, 6-8..
What is the theme for the sequel to Luke?

From Acts 1:1-3
What evidence does Luke provide that shows us the veracity of the divinity of Jesus?

In Acts 1:2-5
What orders did Jesus leave the disciples; what teaching did He complete.. what promise lay before them? Hint... Luke 24:49, John 14:16, 26, 15:26; 16:7, Matt 3:11; Mark 1:8

From Acts 1:6-7
Note that Jesus reorients their thinking with a contrast. Look for the word “but” as the contrasting link. What were they to be doing instead of what they were thinking about in vs 6?

WARNING AND DISCLAIMER

The study of the bible can become addicting. I'm not responsible for the end results. It's HIS, the Lord's, fault not mine.

Enjoy...

Have you read Acts 3:1-10 yet? If not, jump right in and then answer these questions...: .

The lame man had been carried every day to this position at the Temple. One migth wonder if Jesus had passed him by? What truth did Peter emphasize in his sermon regarding this man’s healing? What truth did Peter emphasize regarding the condition of the people?

Ok...now compare Acts 2:23 and Acts 3:13-15. What new information did Peter add in this 2nd sermon? And give the three proofs about Jesus that Peter shared.

Can you give a reason why the people were not innocent of the crime of Jesus’ execution? And can you give a reason from Romans 1 and Acts 17:30 as to why no one is innocent.

Quit scratching your head...the answers are right in front of your nose.

Ok, time for a few more questions...

Acts 6:1-10
Up to this point, Luke has told us that the church has lovingly met each and every need. What problem arose that might be used to cause disunity?

What did the disciples propose as a solution to the problem? And hwo does this show the principle James taught in 2:16 and Paul taught in Rom 12:13?

What were the qualifications that the disciples gave to the church for their selection?

It was the Hellenists (Grecian Jews) who complained. Therefore it is noted that their names indicate they were of Grecian origin except Nicolas. What did you learn about him?

Only Stephen’s character is noted.... find all of the references to him between Acts 6:1-10. What do you learn about him? How does Stephen fit the description Joshua gave in Josh 1:8-9... and of the qualifications Jesus gave: Luke 9:23-26.

Have fun.
