You've convinced me, Ban! I've added "heaven" to my list of things to do.

As you've noted, there is no evidence to show one religion superior over any of the others as the ticket to the Big Show, nor is there any way to tell what one has to do to get in... I'll just assume my method is as good (or bad, depending) as any other for insuring eternal paradise.

I should be in pretty good shape since I'm not an atheist and would never dream of saying, "There is no god."

Suspect we can both agree that saying, "There is no god" is completely different from saying, "There is no objective evidence of god."

Look for me in the halo and harp line!

There will be a time ngc1514 when all of us posting now will have our final day on this earth. Then what? Only time will tell, but for me I will continue to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as The Way, The Truth and The Life.

That's great, Jack! As Band and I have been discussing, there's really no way to know with any degree of objective certainty that the path you've chosen, or that anyone else has chosen, is the correct path. Or, indeed, the ONLY path. It comes down to being strictly a matter of faith.

Since it's strictly a matter of faith, I'm having faith in the idea that my way is just one of the possibly endless numbers of ways of getting into heaven. It's no different that what every other heaven-believing person in history has ever done, right? There are a lot of religions in the world that see heaven as the final destination to which there are many, many paths - perhaps as many paths as there are people - and no one path is the correct or the only path.

These religions seem to have a much more loving and forgiving god than some of the more popular religions; a god who is inclusive rather than exclusive. They see heaven as being more like a big city park where everyone is welcome than an exclusive country club where only a few are good enough to gain entry.

I think most here by now know I'm not buying into any of this mystical mumbo-jumbo stuff. BUT... but, if I were, I'd definitely go for the inclusive image of god as a welcoming character rather than the Christian-Islamic image of the greatest monster in history - one who condemns the vast majority of his children to eternal damnation.

Well, considering Christianity is a minority religion, I find it hard to believe that any loving God would pick a religion that automatically condemns the majority of the earths population to hell by default, simply because they have not been raised in it, or exposed to it. Not to mention what happens to the millions born before 30 AD or so. When I really think of who I would rather spend eternity with, Jim Baker or Osama Bin Laden, I wonder what sort of choice is that. While I was raised Christian and have a gut feeling here is some sort of existence afterwards (An obvious genetic adaptation to deal with knowledge of ones own mortality, possibly), I am not convinced it is the standard Christian concept of it. Logic & demographics certainly would indicate that the Christian concept is wrong or skewed.

If the remarks by several professed Christians since the recent Federal election are any indication, I am not too sure that I would want to spend eternity with such mean spirited "Christians"

IMO Christianity has been hijacked by a bunch of people I would hardly call Christian. Considering the role of the "Church" in opposing things like medicare, welfare, etc they are hardly following the principles of "my brothers keeper". Mike is my kind of Christian, several others here who attest to being one need to get back to studying their Bibles.

I live a moral upstanding life. Heck I always do the right think and don't require the promise of everlasting life, or the threat of everlasting hell.

I have many good friends who are Christian. They behave nothing like "some" of the so-called christians I read on these forums.

I'm not sure that Christianity says that all that have not been raised in Christianity or exposed to it (pretty much ignorant of it) will be condemed to eternal hell with no chance to experience otherwise. Just what does Christianity (the Bible) say hell is? Is it really burning in fire for eternity? Is that what those who don't make "heaven" will experience...... an eternity of burning in fire? What say you .... all who don't hesitate to jump on "Christianity" or speak out on Christians who dare speak out? Everyone must make his/her own choice on spiritual matters... or chose to not chose. Either way, it's a choice. And, every religion and those of the non-religious has it's bigots, so let say they cancel each other out so that we can concentrate on the opinions of all us non-bigots.
