Ah, OK, to me a meme is not more than a concept, or a complex of concepts, synonymous but with the additional of evolutionary mechanism of variation, replication and selection. Again, I think it useful to look at science in that light, or Christianity, or government, or any other of man's concepts and ideas. Or keep it as simple as the game of post office, that game where a message is whispered from person to person, sometimes replication, sometimes mutating, each person selecting, even if unconsciously what they heard.

Economics and Evolution: Bringing Life Back into Economic just arrived and it's author immediately warns against taking such things as memes too seriously. He writes, back in the mid-90s, the biological sciences have pretty much rejected memes. Your leeriness of memes is appropriate.
