I have never read the book Chris. And I did answer Eric's question. |

Mike, here is the set of questions asked: "What you didn't do is explain why you selected one set of tenets over another. Was that a rational decision and, if so, how was it made? Why would someone select your particular set of tenets over those of all the other religions man has fabricated over the last few thousand years?" At best you perhaps answered that your selection was no selection at all but happened as a matter of chance of birth, friends, family and culture, that there was and is no conscious rational choice involved. That's what he was asking with "Was that a rational decision and, if so, how was it made?" And asking asking that you respond not about why you subjectively believe something but "Why would someone select your particular set of tenets over those of all the other religions man has fabricated over the last few thousand years?" |

I'd certainly like to see the evidence that god "introduced himself to all regions of the world"! Other than the Mormons, not sure of any Christian sect that makes such a claim; the Mormons only make that claim about North America and not the rest of the world.
On that basis, do you accept the "miracles" in other religions to have the same validity as the ones you hold true? Do you accept that Muhammad stepped to heaven from the present location of the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem? Better than eye witnesses, we can actually see the Kadam esh-Sharif - the heel mark of the holy one - at the Dome. Miracles are part and parcel of most religions.
I don't think I asked whether you considered any other religions. What I asked was WHY and HOW one person is to accept one set of religious tenets over another. The fact that you returned to the religion of your youth is not surprising. What would have been more surprising would have been your embracing a religion not in the christian faith. All this seems like a setup for one of those: A guy walks into a bar where he finds a priest, rabbi and imam... Is one's soul in jeopardy if one selects the "wrong" religion or, as some profess, all paths lead to the same end? Is there salvation outside the Roman church? |
