by Charles H. Spurgeon Morning Devotion Wednesday, May 13, 2009 "Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning." --Psalm 30:5 Christian! If thou art in a night of trial, think of the morrow; cheer up thy heart with the thought of the coming of thy Lord. Be patient, for "Lo! He comes with clouds descending." Be patient! The Husbandman waits until he reaps his harvest. Be patient; for you know who has said, "Behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give to every man according as his work shall be." If you are never so wretched now, remember "A few more rolling suns, at most, Will land thee on fair Canaan's coast." Thy head may be crowned with thorny troubles now, but it shall wear a starry crown ere long; thy hand may be filled with cares--it shall sweep the strings of the harp of heaven soon. Thy garments may be soiled with dust now; they shall be white by and by. Wait a little longer. Ah! how despicable our troubles and trials will seem when we look back upon them! Looking at them here in the prospect, they seem immense; but when we get to heaven we shall then "With transporting joys recount, The labours of our feet." Our trials will then seem light and momentary afflictions. Let us go on boldly; if the night be never so dark, the morning cometh, which is more than they can say who are shut up in the darkness of hell. Do you know what it is thus to live on the future--to live on expectation--to antedate heaven? Happy believer, to have so sure, so comforting a hope. It may be all dark now, but it will soon be light; it may be all trial now, but it will soon be all happiness. What matters it though "weeping may endure for a night", when "joy cometh in the morning?" Come back after 6:00 PM (US-EST) for this evening's devotion, Psalm 119:57 > Past devotions |

Disappointed? Like I said before, when you express your personal beliefs, I have no argument. It's only when you paste what claims to be science that I do. |

I go along with Chris on this one. If you get to feeling all sanctimonious and righteous by posting this drivel... have at it. "Lo! He comes with clouds descending." After 2000 years, it's getting damned well about time, doncha think? Drivel, but if it makes you happy, breezy... |

Comfort seems to be the latest argument for religion. Anyway, I don't see any way to argue with beliefs. Seems to me you believe, or you don't. I can't argue you do or don't believe. It's only when someone tries to give reason to their beliefs, when they claim to know God, rather than just believe, then they open themselves up to questions, challenges, criticism. This follows Stenger's thinking. It's like with politics. If you say you like Bush or Obama, what can I say, other than I do or don't. I guess we could get emotional about it. It's only when you try to explain why you support this or that politician, this or that policy, and you give reasons, that we can argue about those reasons, whether they are true or not. What we have in these devotionals is expression of belief. The facts breeze wants to troll reactions to them leads one to suspect his expression of belief is perhaps phoney, that he's rather just play trolling games. |

I don't think breezy is a troll like BL over on the other section of the board. I see breezy as one who is so uncertain of his own faith that he has to try to justify it in his own mind by his cut 'n' paste postings. These are not the actions of a man who is secure in what he believes, but one who needs constant reaffirmation of his beliefs. It's also amazing that the ONLY people who plug up the airwaves and Internet are the tiny fraction of christians known as biblical fundamentalists. Our good Padre host doesn't find it necessary to cut 'n' paste chunk after chunk of Catholic theology nor is his church's science on such shaky grounds (until recently, at least) that he feels it can't stand on its own. Posting hundreds - if not thousands - of his cut 'n' paste screeds demonstrates breezy is not coming from a position of strength, only ignorant weakness. His belief is not strong, therefore he must attempt to justify it by his frantic actions. Sad, actually. |

I don't think BL is a troll. He responds in kind. Yeah, breeze is not an evil troll, he can't take a toll, he's just a playful troll. Mostly Harmless--good book! |
