Name: Eien Taiyou Age: Unknown Apparent Age: 21 Gender: Male Race: Human Dimension: Spira Combat Sphere: Samurai Character Theme: ”Say the Word” by Christy Michelle Romano Battle Theme: ”Battle Without Honor or Humanity” by Tomoyasu Hotei Overdrive(s): -N/A- Appearance: ![]() Personality: When Eien Taiyou first woke up without his memory, he was very cold and aloof, staying emotionally distant from those who found him. However, he was also a very innocent individual, naive and confused about almost everything concerning Spira and rather the curious type because of it. Over time, as he gradually began to befriend the individuals who helped him during his earliest intact memories, his personality has taken quite a spin. He still has a very distinct innocent quality to him, a tranquil, intangible aura that can almost be felt in his presence, but he has also grown much less reserved and in fact has taken a complete turn about in this regard as he is now extremely forthcoming and friendly. There aren’t many who don’t come to like or at least drop their guard around him and his personality. Never seeming to anger easily, he is now constantly in a cheerful and friendly state. Where he once was the unapproachable type, now there aren’t many who can make him act that way towards them if they tried. Even law breaking criminals of society, dark and shady individuals, or other categorically dangerous or unfriendly individuals can’t rile his demeanor or garner his resentment, though he has no problem with interfering in their business. He has a much easier time disliking bad actions over bad people. However, there are the truly hateful and evil individuals out there in the world that can and often do earn his hostility. As a fighter, Eien suffer from a complex that keeps him from running away like others often do. He’s never afraid to cross swords with someone, in fact he does tend to enjoy battle when the opponent is strong and challenging, but he doesn’t have a macho attitude and knows how to pick his fights and when combat is unnecessary, even if he doesn’t seem like the strategically thinking type at face value. Though he has no qualms about fleeing from his own adversaries, he’ll never depart when there are others who need his help. Call it a hero complex, but he can’t let those around him get hurt if there’s something he can readily do to prevent the pain. In his travels, it’s inevitable that there’d be numerous battles he can’t simply avoid. When he’s confronted with such situations, his fighting style tends to be rather slack and unconventional, never seeming to take combat all that seriously and just having fun with the situation unless he’s actually being pressed into a challenge. Even when he seems to be fighting in a careless fashion, he is actually quite observant in his attention and efficient in his actions. His guard is always up, almost like a sixth sense, even when he doesn’t seem to be focused on danger. Against more dangerous adversaries, he knows when to act serious and give a fight his all and in such times can be very dangerous and proficient. Weapons: Kogarasu Maru (Little Crow) – The only thing with him that day he was found unconscious on the beach except for the clothes on his back, this exotic weapon has a seemingly outlandish design that is both subtle yet distinct. A form of tachi by model, the single-edged blade is purest white and unblemished, despite a great deal of past use. The handle is wrapped in grayed cloths for superior grip and has an almost foreign design. Tassels trail from the bottom of the hilt, capped with bells and feathers. The weapon’s relatively average dimensions belie its considerable mass, which is that of a weapon many times its size and has to be dragged from the handle by most average people. Even so, he is capable of wielding this sword with ease, even while using only one hand, and is quite comfortable when carrying it around on his back by a leather baldric. Abilities: Eien Taiyou is capable of physical feats beyond the capacity of the average human, including the ability to easily lift and wield with one hand a sword so heavy that the typical individual has difficulty dragging it across the ground by its handle. He also speaks fluently in numerous different languages, including Al Bhed and a few that are unrecognizable and likely long dead tongues. Many come to wonder after meeting this man and learning what he is capable of who he is and what his life might have been before being found on that beach with his memory erased. History: Eien Taiyou suffers from a severe case of amnesia, a complete and total memory wipe regarding anything and everything to do with his past before a certain point in time. That specific period was when he awoke washed up on a beach, waves lapping past his half-submerged self. He remembered voices, people speaking close by, sounding alarmed. He saw someone approaching through hazy vision, a distressed passerby who happened to notice him in his predicament. He passed out after that, remembering nothing else until he woke up again. That is the earliest memory that he has about his life and it’s not much to go on when he has no idea how he wound up there on that beach the day he was found. The next time he woke up, he found himself lying on a small but comfortable bed in a small ramshackle hut situated on Kilika Island. A young girl was there cleaning dishes as he came to, pleased to introduce herself as Azumi the moment she noticed him stir from his sleep. He had been brought back to her house when she and the band of youths she ran with stumbled upon him during a day at the beach. He had been out of it for a few days and all the kids there that day had visited him at one time or another, all hoping that he’d pull through after whatever he’d suffered. During the wait, they had had enough time to bring back a sword they found near his washed up body and could only assume was his due to proximity, an average sized tachi with a weight that belied its size. It was so heavy that they had to take turns dragging it along the ground for more than a day before they finally got it back to the village. Once he finally woke up, Eien recovered at a remarkably quick pace. In fact, he seemed in tip top form by the end of the day. It was all but confirmed that the sword the youths of Kilika Island found alongside him was his when he was able to easily lift with one hand what they had had to drag back to the village in shifts. That feat alone seemed to show that he was most likely physically sound. However, his mentality was another story. He had no memories of who he was, where he was from, or how he had ended up on that beach. The only information he had was his name, distinctly engrained as Eien Taiyou; that and the name of his sword, which he called Kogarasu Maru. It was decided by Azumi that he would stay with her until he recovered from his amnesia, something that all the youths who had found him were hoping was just a temporary thing caused by whatever accident sent him stranded on that beach that day. Though he couldn’t tell much about himself, Eien did learn a thing or two about Azumi as they seated together for a dinner his host had prepared. The girl’s parents had been killed when their village had been attacked by Sin over two years ago. Since then, she had been living on her own in her parents’ old house, making a meager living selling farm-grown or forest-picked produce and various home-made crafts. It was enough to get by and sometimes her sales showed small spikes when the occasional travelers passed through the village. Her life was a difficult one, but she stayed positive and happy and her life still had its fun times, mostly the times she spent with the other children in Kilika like their day at the beach when he was discovered. She had actually been the one to notice him washed up on the shore. Though she had trouble just supporting herself, there was no way she could turn her back on someone who needed help, surely a value instilled in her by her parents, and so she insisted that she would take care of him for however long it took. Initially very quiet and distant, curious but aloof concerning the whole matter of not knowing anything about himself and having to live with a stranger, his personality quickly took on a thriving similarity to Azumi’s and he became a cheerful and friendly individual. Swiftly feeling like a freeloader on both his host and the village as a whole, he began to make himself useful whenever possible, be it watching Azumi’s stand so that she could spend more time tending her garden or constructing sellable craft goods or else running around town fixing roofs and running errands for other villagers. Some time passed and while he became a popular face in Kilika, his own little niche in the world, his memories hadn’t returned to him in the slightest. There were unconscious things that he began to learn naturally about himself after a while, though. One time while accompanying Azumi out into the neighboring forest as she searched for fruit to pick and sell in the village he learned that he was good with a sword, excellent might have been a better word for it, when a fiend attacked Azumi, or tried to in any case, and Eien had it sliced in two with the sword found near him that day before even he knew what was going on. After that incident he started accompanying the village guard out into the forest to help thin the fiend population. He also learned that he was fluent in a language spoken in Spira called Al Bhed when a traveler started speaking the language at Azumi’s stand and, when the girl wasn’t able to understand and do business with him, he conducted the sale without even having it register that he was speaking another language until it was all over. Such occurrences have made both him and the youths who found him wonder all the more who he was before winding washed up on Kilika Island. Though he enjoyed his life in the village, finding his place with the younger individuals who found him that day over others closer to his age as he really always seemed like just a big kid with a youth’s heart, it was becoming more and more clear as the months slowly passed that his memory was most likely not going to come back on its own with him just sitting around. After a while Azumi suggested that he leave Kilika Island and do some traveling abroad. Perhaps somewhere out there someone would recognize him or maybe he’d pass by something that reminded him of his past life. Either way, staying in Kilika wasn’t doing any good for his memory. It was difficult for the two of them, both really being the only acting family that either one presently had, but they both knew it was the best course of action for him and so Eien left behind his present in hopes of discovering his past, with nothing but his sword and the clothes on his back for the journey. Since then, he’s lived a simple but adventurous life. Willing to do just about anything for gil that isn’t immoral, unethical, or illegal in his book, he often lives by his sword and scrapes up just enough of a living to get by and continue with his travels. Despite this life style, he’s still his upbeat and happy-go-lucky self, carrying on the personality he absorbed from Azumi to replace the blank and aloof individual that he once was when first found on the beach that day. He still hasn’t found out anything about his past life, but he hasn’t become discouraged. Every day he lives the adventure that is his life and doesn’t detour from the path, knowing that if he walks it long enough he’ll find what he’s looking for. Edited by Vanga, Jul 18 2008, 01:57 PM.
