Here are a few websites that may assist you with your writing :) If you know of a website that should be added please post it!

  • The Imperial Library - one stop shop for ES lore. Includes all in game books, plus useful articles, developer works, and other resources.
  • Unofficial Elder Scrolls Wiki - an amazing site for everything game related. Includes lists of NPCs, quest walkthroughs, item info, and much more. Currently having problems.
  • TV Tropes - "a catalog of the tricks of the trade for writing fiction." Includes all the archeotypes, cliches, and conventions of writing.

Microsoft Word and Open Office each have their own in built spellchecks. However, I have found that they do sometimes miss some. As such, I tend to use these online sites to double check. This also means that even those without Word have no excuse to turn in stories littered with poor spelling and grammar. The sites are free to use - so feel free to use them ;)

Okay, a few links you will hopefully find useful.

Laymon's Rules of Writing - by the late, great horror writer Richard Layman.

http://www.horror.org/writetips-laymon.htm

Setting and Character - it's based on horror, but the ideas are applicable for any form of genre fiction

Fiction writing overview - A mix of tips covering all sorts of areas. Some are very good, others reasonable. Take what you can and discard the rest.

Another overview site - and one that's frequently linked to BSFA (and although I'm not a member, I know the SFWA also value it) budding authors when they ask for online resources.

Happy reading, and hopefully

HAPPY WRITING!

A helpful link to a CHIM discussion, with clear cut explanations for those who don't want the fun of finding it out for themselves. Those who already understand it in part can ask questions and learn some surrounding information here, most of which is taken from other members' opinions and ideas on CHIM.
