The Rise and Fall of THQ.

An interesting read... That I have only half-finished... It is long. :)

Also, nowhere near as good as The Rise and Fall of ECW... I need to watch that again.
Ooh Yeah!

I really felt for THQ as a company. I watched them be labelled the worst developers that there had ever been, in the SNES era, to a really commanding company with alot of great titles.

The real issue i'm seeing, is people spending megabucks on new IPs, when the sad fact is that there are certain titles that will sell big, and justify their development and publishing costs.

And due to that, we get to watch favourite devs and publishers, close their doors, and it's all because they're pitching to a generation of gamers that would rather talk, than play and rent than own.

THQ sent me to Alton Towers (UK Theme Park) for an Indy Conference in which I got to play Saint's Row 2 and Red Faction Guerilla (I miss Gorilla) about half a year or so before it's release. Got a free game and a Speed Ticket (no queues) out of it, and a bundle copy of the 360 WallE game (although the previous conference that was attended, not by me, got given a free PS3 shortly after release). That was all round brilliant, and I wasn't happy when rumours of their imminent closure began surfacing.

Still, all that being said: "Dude, I don't care, I just want my Okama Gamesphere (South Park game)."

The THQ presence at the EB Games conferences I went to, was more than any other, so they really knew how to spend and acquire IPs, but they didn't know how to manage it.

Unless you've got that absolute guaranteed seller, you can't fuck about and spend big money. Activision can make all the mistakes in the world, because they have Call of Duty, for example

What did THQ have? WWE? LMAO

THQ was always really good to me during the Pro Wrestling Weekly days. Gave me permission to use footage from WWF Raw (Xbox game) on the show and gave us promotional copies to give away. That's what started my free game binge - they'd send us games, we'd give them away on the show and review them on our website. :-) BEST. DEAL. EVER. Got me so many games while I was in law school...
