My check engine light came on while I was driving to work, and all I know is that it can be a million different things. Yahoo Auto told me that if it stays on, it's some serious, so I'd like to get it fixed ASAP. My question is, I noticed it turned on about 10 minutes after I turned my AC on full blast. Could the AC have something to do with it or is it just a coincidence? I hope it's not my transmission. We've had to replace 4 on 2 different cars now. =/

I'd say coincidence.

Best just to get it looked at.

I'll definitely be getting it looked at on my next day off (Which is thankfully Wednesday).

If you take it to AutoZone, they can tell you what code is tripping, and the best part is they do it for free!

Neat! I will head down first thing in the morning, thanks!

I hope it's something easy/cheap to fix. =X

Well, I'm relieved. The gas cap that I have has these pins on the side, I guess to latch to the side after you screw the cap on. One of the pins broke, so my car was reading it as a vapor leak. Bought a new gas cap and all is well. :)

Wonderful news! Gotta love the cheap fixes that treat themselves as serious business.

Definitely a great outcome.

Reminds me of my could've been 600 dollar fix, that turned out to be 60, and my could've been a dead car fix, that turned out to be 230

Hah, what was your issue?

First issue was a completely dead car. Turned out to be the ignition coil, so it was fixed for 230.

Second issue was a leak that I noticed, most likely culprit being the steering rack which would need replacing, but it turned out to be a simple rubber seal that had worn away and it cost me 60.

When shit goes wrong with your car, it's such a grand worry unless you're a mechanic. I mean, how you can you trust them implicitly, when their business is about repairing things.

It's like when people pay hundreds upon hundreds, to fix their PC issues, when in reality it's something very simple and can take mere minutes to do.

I had an old workmate at EB Games, get a virus on his PC, spent a couple of hours on the phone with Norton, paid to renew his license for another year (it was already valid) so they would remotely access his PC and fix it. Hundreds, to fix a problem that literally takes minutes, if you know what you're doing.

Even easier, is the prevention.

Yeah, I'm always worried about going to a mechanic, because last time I went, they told me my radiator was fried. Paid 530 dollars for them to fix it and I still had an issue with overheating. I paid 6 dollars for a hose and fixed it myself, and everything was fine.
