It's a good thing someone noticed this. Game consoles have migrated too far towards social media. Not a terrible thing by itself but if it turns into a trend than consoles will become less about games and more half-assed computers. We already have computers for doing everything else, making console specifically about the games and make them better at it than PC. Almost-PC consoles have done nothing for gaming this generation.

Res -

I whined about this even BEFORE the Xbox 360 and PS3 were out.

As I've stated many times in the past, I am a dinosaur. I just want to pop in a game and play. I don't like having to pay for and to constantly get updates due to these other things.

The Xbox is no stranger to releasing different consoles, I wish they would have a gamer edition with a 1TB hard drive and nothing on the GUI but games and downloads. I've accepted that I have to connect to the internet, but that's all I want.

I don't want to be a retro gamer to get at these kinds of games. I want to play the games of the generation, just dont want all this fluff, social interaction, media shit and what not. I want to just game, and consoles are pushing me away, and I dont want to deal with a PC either.

I'm fully in agreement with that. What makes it even worse is that they are essentially trying to make gaming consoles into PCs...............but PCs will always do that portion better so why the hell are they even trying?

I dont get the strategy either.

I've essentially stopped playing my PS3 because I am quite sick of playing a game, only to get the Sony network error and being booted out of the game I was playing.

I go through phases were my Xbox gets disconnected as well, but it least the Xbox handles this better.

I don't want to have to come home from being on a computer all day, to have to install patches, worry about updates, or troubleshoot the damn network at home. Especially when I run all the tests and they come back positive and a-ok. And I'm sure a LOT of these problems are related to all the 'other' stuff on the net, not just multiplayer game traffic.

Pretty much. They're becoming entertainment boxes with a smartphone/tablet user interface. The days of "put the game in and play" are pretty much over as consoles evolve to a new level. It isnt entirely bad though. I can still pop a disc into my xbox and ps3 and game right away. The features haven't been forced down our throats(yet), but they are there as another option, and as a selling point.

When the day comes that I have to sign into xbl or game servers through facebook and am forced to comment on my friends kdr before playing, I may finally lay my controller to rest once and for all. Until then, I can deal with a few extra bells and whistles. Hell, no one ever bitched about built in gps in cars. It's there, and you can use it or ignore it, and the car still drives and that is all that matters.

There's always PC gaming which, as far as I know (not a PC gamer), is basically what gaming SHOULD be since PC has already moved past the phase of "FACEBOOK, EVERYWHERE" thought processes.

The only downside is PC doesn't get as many RPGs. As far as I know PC is pretty devoid of the kind I like such as the Star Ocean, Final Fantasy and Tales type of RPG.

Given that basically all modern devices have video apps built-in, I agree that MS should focus solely on games when they finally reveal the next Xbox. Besides, I wouldn't see the point of showing a list of video apps that are already on the 360.

I never got the hate for Pete. I mean...I agree he gets carried away, but the man means well. He is one man in the industry that truly LOVES gaming. Not just the cash.
