You're a cruel human being.

But yeah, it seems that P4: Silvered is the winner.

Shadow Hearts all the way. Gotta play the second one too, as the story continues. Those two games are the most under rated rpgs on the ps2. Great story, great battle system, great script, fantastic characters, great setting, dark theme, and a very nice touch of humor sprinkled throughout.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get a SH1 iso. I attempted SH2, but it was... no.

So Sero then switched his vote to P4, simply because he refused to let me attempt FFVIII using only the card game and without random battles. Assclown.

So I've been playing P4: Silvered (original PS2 version). Not bad.

After twenty years of gaming, I know a game I'll like within the first 5 minutes.

Don't tell me you don't have the same ability after 20+ years of gaming.

After 5 minutes of a shmup or a fighting game? Sure as hell do.

...but if I decided to judge Nier that soon after starting.... I would've missed out on one of the best games I've ever played.

And that's after 30 years of gaming, my friend.

30 Is included in 20+. 30 Is higher than 20, and the + means that it includes all number higher than the number 20 in this instance.

An RPG to me is built or destroyed on the strength of its characters and story. It takes a while for me to tell if I'm feeling it or not.

That sounds so logical that it's bound to be disagreed with....

Anyways, how are you enjoying P4 so far?

Pretty good. But the foreshadowing thus far has been very predictable. But I'm enjoying the characters and overall story.

I have a few questions, but from what I've gathered, Aru won't be able to help me. The differences between P4 Silvered and P4 Golden are big enough that they changed quite a bit, so much so that the things I have questions about aren't in P4 Golden.

That's not entirely true. I mean, there are a LOT of changes, but it's still mostly the same. I'm currently playing Golden and it's a hell of a refresher but from what I remember back in 2008 it's like all the old stuff is still there and then all this new stuff is there too. They changed mechanics and AI scripting and a lot of subtle things though, so I guess you could say what you're saying maybe... but from what I remember they really haven't taken anything -out-, just added new things or changed what was there.

So... question.

If I were to start playing P4A without having played a single minute of any other Persona game.... how lost am I gonna be?

Don't do it.
Well he could do it and don't touch the story mode. But I'd still kind of agree.

Most importantly...

GABRIUS, GO PLAY PERSONA 3 AND PERSONA 4.
THIS IS NOT A REQUEST. THIS IS AN ORDER.

I'm not buying a $250 handheld so I can get some backstory on a fighting game I already own.... that would be so damn unGabrius that it's not funny.

No. No I do not. I have a laptop that chugs when watching YouTube videos, and a 10 year old Windows XP machine that sounds like a woodchipper when I turn it on.

This doesn't explain why you can't at least play Persona 3. You have a working PS3. Do it.

And maybe by the time you're done with Persona 3, you'll have working PS2 hardware.

Oh, and reducing Persona 4 to 'some backstory on a fighting game'? That's just offensive. Not even, like, mildly slap in the face offensive. That's like, you just bludgeoned my newborn kittens with a baseball bat offensive.

Kittens become cats. That's what we would call a preemptive strike.

Well, let's not get into the whole dogs > cats debate right now. Not like it's actually a debate, but still.

As for calling the Persona series backstory for Arena.... I'm a fighting game guy. I don't play very many RPGs at all. Haven't in a very long time. Arena looks..... incredible. Fluid, beautiful 2d graphics, balanced with great mechanics from what I've been told... and added to the list of games played at EVO, meaning that the community takes it seriously.

Honestly.... and no offense meant here.... I really couldn't care less about where the characters came from when they're in such a solid fighting game. With that said, perhaps I should reword my question:

Is the Story Mode in P4A competent enough to make sense without foreknowledge of the rest of the series?

While playing the Persona games has always been somewhere on my list of gaming things to do.... it's not a priority. I think Arucard said something like length being prohibitive when considering the size of his backlog... that would describe my situation pretty well also. I have several hundred Xbox 360 games I've still yet to play, and many more on other consoles. If I waited to play P4A until I played both P3 and P4, I'd probably be looking at P12A and asking this same damn question to you guys from the bed in my retirement home before I was all caught up with the story.
