Amazon patents used Kindle books... used digital games next?

This is interesting because how long before something like this applies to games?

In a nutshell, Amazon considers limiting the number of used sales churn per new game sold, to artificially emulate the supply/demand of traditional physical items which degrade with use and drop price. Of course a used digital product is identical to new. So if they set the limit to 4 resells, say, the guy who sells it the first time will pay more and receive more back than the guy who buys it last, since he won't be able to resell it. Of course Amazon would take a cut from every transaction, maybe as low as eBay's few % but more likely closer to GameStop's 50%.

As some author noted in there, he'd prefer people to pirate than buy used, since if they aren't going to give their money to the creators then don't make billionaire Jeff Bezos even richer for doing nothing.

If MS or Sony did this they'd probably share some resale revenue with the publishers, since they need the publishers more than Amazon needs authors.

Amazon might be patenting the system, but it very well could infringe on the exclusive right of reproduction of the copyright holder. I can't see a system like this surviving a court challenge.

I'm an ass man.
I'm not sure I like the idea of this... Seems like if it were to happen, it would be an easy system to hack / abuse / mod...

And on consoles would bring a higher chance of fraud etc...

Possibly anyway.

I don't tend to swap / sell games anyway, so I'm not too bothered, but it does seem like it could open up a whole new can of troubles (NO, NOT WHOOP-ASS).
Ooh Yeah!

The good thing is that, apart from a Supreme Court decision, it can't and won't happen.
