I signed this.

Just putting it here, for anyone who wants to sign / read.

For those of you who don't live in the UK.

Page 3 is a certain page of a very trampy, celeb-infested gossip-fest of a newspaper, which each day shows a half-naked woman.

While I enjoy half-naked women. I also enjoy not ever buying or reading the Sun, and would happily take part in any activity that would annoy / hurt / anger / enrage them, and wish to make them sad / cry / weep...

So here it is... A petition to stop the shameless peddling of sex in a family newspaper, which corrupts the British society with it's mindless conjecture.

Sign, or don't.

:)
Ooh Yeah!

I signed! Not I'm the U.K. but I'm happy to support you, Banana. That and this sounds very sleazy.

Haha.

Thanks :)

The main thing that annoys me is the amount of people who read / believe that newspaper. It is sleazy, and should have way less power than it does.

That petition doesn't look like it's going to achieve the amount it needs, but it is one of the more reasonable petitions I've seen.
Ooh Yeah!

I don't agree with trying to change it.

It will die when people stop buying it.
People will stop buying it when the culture changes and people look at page three with contempt.
To try and ban it before we are at that stage will galvanise those who like it.

Perhaps, but these things are so engrained in the British psyche...

It will take a long time to change naturally, so a few pushes and prods could help.

Britain is a very traditional country, and customs / traditions seem to either stay forever, or take a very long time to change.

I would like to see more change, and quicker change in pretty much every sector. It doesn't seem to be happening though, and petitions like this will most likely have no effect, but if they can lead to something happening... Can't be bad.

No one wants to take ownership - the silly horsemeat 'scandal' highlights this... People want to find a scapegoat, someone else to blame... Ideally a non-British person, or company... No one wants to accept that it is only people who can change these things, and as a result nothing changes.

My two cents (whatever the hell a cent is).

:P

Non british, or single parents! *shakes fist*

My issue is that if one side does push in a certain direction, it will be met with a counter push by the 'other' side. Whereas the nice relaxed sense of drifting gently to where you want to be? There is rarely as much resistance to that, or, at the very least, the resistance isn't quite so zealous.

Things do take a long time, but this is good, it gives people the time to adapt, and also offers time to work out any impracticalities.

There is time to adapt, and then there is British time. :)

When I lived abroad it seemed that things were constantly changing, evolving and that new technology / ideas / systems were being embraced... It was quite a difficult task to come back to the UK, and be forced to follow all the old methods, and rules, and so on.

It has been quite difficult for my wife, and when I look at it from her angle it is very easy to spot the difficulties... We have a fair few international friends, living here, and I teach at an international school (because the UK doesn't recognise well qualified people from other countries)... A lot of what I see and am told is quite depressing.

Of course, not all of this is on the Sun. :)

But, faster changes would be good. From my point of view anyway.

I get what you are saying, and given that this is an aging country some lenience is needed... But stagnation is where we are now, and it doesn't seem to be getting any better.

Oh, and I can't help but laugh my arse off at the horsemeat scandal.

When we import the meat in from 'Who knows where', we can get it damn cheap, and cheaper still if the big companies were to vertically integrated the respective businesses along the chain.

Basically, above is the polar opposite of eating local produce, with all it's yummy benefits and delicious savings!

You're asking me to vote against half-naked women?

That's a tall order, even for a good friend.

I guess....I'll side with social progress.......or whatever.

Yeah, boobies are very nice.

I don't usually preach on this stuff - don't usually care... But saw that petition and thought what the hell. :)

I'm not really against the boobies part, but I don't see the point of that particular newspaper.

Ooh Yeah!

Britain loves its tabloid papers. I'm very familiar with The Sun. Page 3 is pretty hot, but OTOH it's also embarassing that it's so prominent and in the #1 newspaper (and some of their competitors IIRC) in the country. There really is no need for it. Leave it on the website if you want, but there's no need for it to be in the paper.

Have you noticed too that they always put someone's age right beside their name? Sure it's usually pertinent information, but still, quite amusing.

SSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!

:)

You are right - there are a few competing newspapers, a few of which are much worse...

And yes it is embarrassing that it is NO:1!

What annoys me is when they have a caption relating to a real news story next to the titties.

Something like:

Kathy, 21 from Essex.
"I don't think they should have killed Bin Laden.
Sure he was a bad man, but everyone deserves
a second chance."

I cry everytime I see it.
Ooh Yeah!

It turns out I was wrong.

I made a (slightly grammatically flawed) disparaging comment towards the vertically integrated meat producers. Upon further (although still only a little) research, it appears that the vertically integrated meat producers are some of the purest and some of the easiest to check the origin of the meat from.

And yet is is still often one of the cheapest forms of meat as well.

My knee jerk reaction to the situation was to assume that the supermarkets would be one of the worst offenders, I was wrong.
