So, I've been thinking about signing up for the affiliate program for Gamefly so I can post a link on the side of my blog. I do like them a lot, and I've had an account through them for the past two years. I just don't have the money to buy new games all the time, which is why I focus my reviews on indie games... But I guess I'm worried, because I don't want to have a ton of ads on my blog. I have the normal ads through Google Adsense right now, and I think they're not very intrusive.... nothing you don't normally see on a site. I don't think I would do anything beyond a Gamelfy affiliate link though. I'm not sure i'd even make an entry dedicated to them, aside from doing a review for a game I got through them and then mentioning that I did so. Honestly, I'm trying to use my blog as a means to escape my soul crushing office job, which means I have to look for ways to monetize it. My longer reaching goal is to use it as a platform for my writing. But in the end I am very passionate about indie games, and would like to contribute to the indie gaming community. Right now I feel like nobody really tries to pull the community together and get the word out about the indie games section on XBox, and it's gone largely ignored by Microsoft themselves. I even read that they don't have a community manager anymore, something they used to have. Have you guys ever seen the message boards on the Xbox website? Their terrible. And most the websites for the indie games just don't.... I don't feel they do a very good job of getting the reader excited about the indie games. There's this website: http://www.xboxindies.com/ Which I did contact to get my blog listed on there, but they just didn't get back to me. Maybe because I'm a blog, or maybe someone is just lazy and ignored my email, or maybe because I just don't have enough content or recognition. I don't really know because they haven't gotten back to me. I'll try to get more involved in their site and ask to be a part of it again later. Anyway, I'm trying to make things easier with my weekly release reviews that I've recently started, but does anyone have any other suggestions for things I could do to try and promote a community for the Xbox indie games? I would like to hold a Shark Attack Deathmatch tournament, and I think it would be a lot of fun to continue holding events like that in the future. Also, Milkstone Studios gave me a free code for their game Johnny Carnage, which I'm going to offer as a prize to the commenters on that review when I post it on Friday, since I had already purchased the game. Uh, I guess this has turned into a much bigger post than I thought it would. Sort of just all over the place. I feel like I'm going in the right direction with my blog, but sometimes I crave a little guidance instead of just flailing around in the dark. I know most of you probably don't know how to answer some of these questions, because who would? If there were answers on the internet, I would've found them already. Um... that's it. I'm done. Thanks for reading my diatribe. |

Just Arucard had a lot of hits when he offered a free game on Gamefaqs. What was it, a random pick to anyone who left a comment or some such thing. A good idea. I have signs, and women's tanks to advertise my business. Why not make a RothBlog women's tank? |

Things like that might gain legs here. We talk a lot about getting together for games and sometimes we actually pull it together and have fun. I'm sure many people here would be interested in more of that. So whatever we can do may help you in your overall quest. Just throw out some ideas for games and times. I wouldn't' worry about prizes yet. That stuff should fall into place. I'd rather see people getting involved over the passion of it rather than to gain something out of it. |

Hah hah, thanks. I decided that I'm going to review the game Johnny Carnage on Friday. Milkstone Studios, the company that made the game, gave me a download code for the game. I already had bought, so I'm going to offer the code to a random commentor on the review. The game also has a global leader board, so I'm going to hold a contest. Whoever is at the top of the leader boards on 11/23 will receive a 400 MSP card. I'm currently at the top, lol. I think contest are a lot of fun, and five dollars on my part isn't that big of a deal. Ideally I'd like to hold a contest like this once a month. |
