I know, crazy. I'm not really in it for doing tricks or anything I just wanna be able to ride, at least at first. I'm not very well balanced so I know I need to work on that....somehow, plus I think my weight is working against me. I have a Skateboard from a few years back but it doesn't turn very well. When I try to turn it squeezes down on the wheel and slows me to a stop and it's either my weight or the skateboard isn't calibrated well. (I know you can affect the performance by messing with the wheels or axle or something) Anyone here have any skateboarding experience? Got any tips for an absolute beginner? |

How do you feel about painfully falling down many, many times? |

lol My main reason for getting into it is because I need to be a bit more active. I wanna lose some weight but straight up weight loss exercise is too boring so I need something that'll be fun to make me WANT to. I have a bike but I need to get a fat person seat, I can't sit on the seat I have now. It hurts my ass to sit on it. <.< But yeah, that's pretty much my MAIN reason to get into this, among other possible street sports. |

I'd get over it, falling down is a thing when learning something new like this. I tend to fall a lot when I play Basketball too. |

How about availability of space? Are you trying to do this as a cardio workout? |

Kinda yeah. I just need to find something more fun than just jogging or something to lose weight. Something that'll keep me engaged. I figured easiest way is to play a sport but I don't have any balls of any kind. The skateboarding is just an idea of something to try more than it is an actual interest. |

I get the same thing, I fucking hate running. I was interested in that nike fuel thing until I found out that those armbands cost 150 bucks. |

Running is extremely painful for me when I try to do it in a jogging sense. I can run just fine normally, like when playing a sport, it's when I try to jog that it hurts most and I can't do it for very long. I'm better at short spurts rather than long range. (Partially because I'm overweight and not exactly active in the first place though) I should just buck up and buy a brand new basketball or something and find a nearby basketball court and go play every day or something. |

You can hike, that's a great place to start. Load up some podcasts and walk around. |

I was never a skater in the doing tricks sense, but I had a long board and bombed hills all the time. I learned a little slalom, it was fun, but I stopped after tearing up my knees pretty badly when bombing a hill going really fast. It taught me what it was like to be a ragdoll at very least. Now I have a cruiser board, Its great for transportation, you can go pretty fast on them, the deck is wide, so bad balance isn't much of an issue, and the wheels are big enough that instead of skidding on rocks it just goes right over them.

I figure at least a little skateboarding will help me get my balance in check so I'm gonna stick to trying to do it for now but I'm gonna need a possibly better skateboard. (Or at least tighten the trucks on the one I have) |

I used to do some of that skating and boarding as a young teenager. It was fun while it lasted. I doubt it would serve as a good sport to just pick up and lose weight to. |

Yeah but I also need to improve my balance. I'm not clumsy but I do find myself tripping a lot when I try to play Basketball and running around. |

I liked messing around on them as a kid. Mostly though, liked sitting on them and riding them down the steepest hills I could find (not very steep, there in FL). |
