I can't remember what it was that made me want to pick it up, but I thought I'd buy it on a bit of a whim, under the presumption that it would sit there on my shelf gathering dust. Thought it would be too 'heavy' a read for me to really get into and enjoy...

...

I was wrong. Dead wrong. I'm through the first couple of books (it's made up of about 10 books) and I am hooked, so far I've seen justice and injustice defined, trodden down, redefined and heralded as true as it is. Bullies have been chased down (Thrasymachus & Cronies) and now Glaucon is taunting Socrates to get him to defend justice as the bully had defended injustice (and admittedly, I kinda think he did a good job of that).

So yeah, well worth taking a bit of a leap of faith on my part, even better given that they mentioned one of my favourite ancient figures from history; Heraclitus.

Anyone read it before? What did you think?

Not the whole thing, but familiar with parts through other authors I've read. For example, the allegory of the cave is sometimes brought up in books for the layman about quantum mechanics.

Though I've also only read passages of More's Utopia, I know the two are somewhat similar, so you might enjoy it too.

Awesome! I can't say I had heard of Utopia before, but looking on Amazon, it's about £3-4, so when I finish this, if I am after something similar, I'll be picking that up! Thank you, Paka!
