Let's play a game. While we've got an excellent assortment of posters here, the mothership is almost catastrophically the opposite. There are words there, words that when typed make you instinctively reach for the "topic list" button and a hard drink at the same time. They're normal words, but Gamefaqs posters have warped them. In this topic, we pick one - ONE of those words and describe how that word has been ruined for you. Look, I'll go first. Overrated - Oh you desperately counter-culture shit blister. Every time I see this my eyes automatically replace it with "Three or more people are enjoying something - time to saunter in and assert my superiority". I'm bad about this. It's usually enough to actually make me break eye contact with the post and forget that the user ever existed. Now you go. |

Weeaboo The most overly misused word on Gamefaqs besides Overrated/Underrated People use "weeaboo" as if it was derogatory and what's worse is they call anyone who likes JRPGs a "weeaboo" because they "can't see good games when they see them and are obsessed with Japanese culture" when one says they would take a game like Star Ocean 4 over Killzone any day. A weeaboo is someone who is obsessed with Japanese culture in general, not just games or anime. And I don't mean "interested" I mean obsessed But it is still not a derogatory term and it's frustrating that people both misuse it and use it in that way. Edited by Resulli, Jun 14 2012, 12:47 PM.

What's worse is people make it sound like a bad thing to like those "Anime stereotype archetypes" like the squeaky-voiced candy girl or the brooding badass with mommy issues. People, I tellz ya. |

Not a word, but the 'RESI 4 AND 5 AREN'T TRUE RESI'S' makes me want to borrow RPG's 'punch through a monitor' technology. Such a bullshit moronic response. (btw resi 6 looks awesome) If I chose one word... troll. You make a joke post? TROLL. You make a valid complaint about a game? TROLL. You disagree with one moron? TROLL. Makes me want to nuke the human race and start all over again, only this time doing the damn thing properly

Hater. No better way to sound like Malibu's Most Wanted on Gamefaqs, than to say that word. I disagree with what you said. "Oh you're just hating." No, you dumbfuck, I disagree with what you said. |

Okay, I got a new one. (Not new as in recently murdered but new as in new to this topic and...you know what I mean.) "Objectively bad" You have no idea how many times I've heard this phrase and how annoying it is to see people try to get out of being accused of being subjective by saying something is objective. NOTE TO GAMEFAQS USERS: IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO BE OBJECTIVELY BAD OR GOOD, THE POINT OF BEING OBJECTIVE IS TO DO AWAY WITH ANY AND ALL PRESUMPTIONS AND LABELS THAT MAKE SOMETHING LEAN ONE WAY OR THE OTHER IN TERMS OF MORALITY OR QUALITY. I could have said that better but you get what I mean. It's not possible for something to be objectively bad. Objectively: The game has glitches. Subjectively: The game's glitches make the game bad. There's a very heavy fundamental difference between the two statements, get it right. You cannot exclude yourself from the pack by believing your own subjectivity is objective, the moment you say you do or don't like something, the moment you say it is good or bad, you are no longer being objective. Oh, Billy... Unfortunately I didn't get the government grant to keep funding that tech. But to expand on Billy's choice word: Troll. "I'm on a message board. Someone disagrees with me. How dare they go against the hive mind! I will not allow such a thing! Unfortunately I'm a stupid shit with zero intelligence. I lack the ability to have a logical and thought-out post, let alone a whole argument. I need to go through the fallback catalogue to see what I can call this other poster who doesn't agree with me: Here it is! TROLL" Go fuck yourself! I'm so sick and tired of people throwing the word "troll" around without ever actually attempting to use it properly. Use it properly or stop using it. Misusing it just makes you look like a jackoff that needs to get hit in the head with a brick and to have your balls severed. Why have your balls severed? Because it's detrimental to the universe if you're allowed to procreate, you stupid fuck! |

Seriously this. In fairness, an issue many places online. I've even been accused of trolling a few times over there when I expressed an unpopular opinion. |

I know a bunch of you don't agree with that particular opinion... I just love it when disagree = troll... and I had a field day with those topics. VoysaReezun had me furious by the end of the longer topic, though, with his perceived support of the entire board

Mentioning casual/core in a serious statement is a fantastic way to get me to disregard your input on anything. Good one Scotty. |

I don't mind those words. There is a difference in the design of casual and "core" games. And there is a difference between casual and "core" gamers. I don't see what's wrong with making the distinction, in and of itself. I do however hate when it's used as a form of elitism. And about being a troll, I get called one every time I express the opinion that the PS3 is NOT a hideously worthless pile of garbage on the 360 board. |

On the subject of casual/hardcore... I also believe the words hold true meaning. One that has been lost for ages. Most of the people who post here are indeed hardcore gamers... but most of the people who post on GFAQs and consider themselves a part of that group are not hardcore at all. I believe a few of you have read one of my tirades on the subject in the past

It seems obvious and I know that you and I have both attempted to make this point in the past, you more often than I, but somewhere along the lines, it has become impossible for a game to be good, on a system other than the one you own. It's a good way to get me to disregard you entirely when it comes to games. If you like games, and you've been playing them longer than you've owned a 360, or PS3, then there is no reason not to check out games, on any system that is available/affordable to you. "Would you like ___ (great) game to come to ___ system?" User 1: Eh, I already have ___ game. Don't want it. User 2: LOL __ game sold ___ copies in ____ !!! User 3: That game sucks. User 4: Why would we want that game? ___ is infinitely better plus I heard the combat is slow and boring. User 5: Nope. The story is lame and the game is short. Sadly if that same said game was on the system that they own, they would be all over it. If I had a PS3, or Kinect, I would be looking for, and purchasing, the games that I like, and staying away from the games that I don't like. It's quite simple. I don't own stock in either company, all I care about is owning good games that I will enjoy, the rest has managed to work itself out my entire life since the Commodore 64. And I've continued to have good games to play, without me attempting to be a fucking politician on the matter. I prefer to play them and talk about them, as I'm much better at doing that instead. |

The one that really gets me is, "generic shooter". That gets tossed around far too much. "Mass Effect has turn into another generic shooter" "Resident Evil is just another generic shooter" The worst one was, I think it was Darkhare - " Watchdogs had potential until the end of the trailer when it turned into just another generic shooter" Apparently having any shooting at all = another generic shooter. I guess theres no point in playing Assassins Creed 3, its just another generic shooter. You could use a shotgun in Splatterhouse.... just another generic shooter. Hey there walking dead game you started off as a thriller/adventure game but then you had to use a shotgun.... why you turn into another generic shooter? |

I'm also going to throw in the word "clone". Darksiders is apparently a zelda clone. Battlefield is a CoD clone. Binary domain is a Gears of War clone. I could do this all day but who the hell cares? So they take elements from other games? Great, take the good, get rid of the bad and make a better game. Its called Evolution. |
