"Taking inspiration" from something, and copy+pasting something are fundamentally different. |

The fact that you think electronic production consists of simply "copy+pasting" things means you likely know as much about the subject as I do about playing the guitar. Sampling is an artform - not just anyone can do it right, and you need to be incredibly technicly sound in order to do it well. And no, most Dubstep producers aren't even remotely good at sampling. I can do things in Soundforge that most of those dudes couldn't pull off with a million dollar studio. |

The fact that I'm euphemising the production process doesn't mean that I don't know Jack shit about it. (side note, why are you making this personal?) Also, I never said it didn't require any knowledge or skill - I simply assert that the skills are of a very different nature to actual musicianship and composing. |

YOU'RE TEARING ME APART, LISA. Anyway. It's a matter of semantics at that point, I agree. I feel less than qualified to continue this discussion at any rate because, past singing showtunes and doing poetry, I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket or a rhythm in the rain. |

Hey hey hey, no need for getting all face-punchy, brother ![]() I'm taking this personally because you say things like "actual musicianship and composing" - think about it. What are you really saying right there? Producers aren't "actual musicians"? Pfffft... please. Go and tell John Williams or Quincy Jones that - or would you only consider them "actual musicians" because they know how to play an instrument or two? Fine. I'm a beast on hand percussion. Can I be considered an "actual musician" now too? I love you, man... I just don't like the condescending tone you take when it comes to music, kinda like how my opinion on metal is invalid because I think Megadeth > Metallica... personally I believe that Metallica is absolute garbage from the Black Album on, but it's cool that you disagree, and I don't discount your opinions on the subject because you think Death Magnetic is a good album. At all. |

I still maintain that there is an absolute difference between writing your own shit, and blending other people's shit. No doubt there are people that do both, but it doesn't make the two component processes equivalent. |

There's also a difference between someone who paints from his imagination and someone who paints what he sees. Both are atrists. But you're absolutely right, this is getting about semantics. And I do agree with your original statement. Almost all dubstep is generic sounding trash that'll be relegated to being background music in commercials in a decade or so. |

I like Dubstep but as far as Electronic music genres go I'm much more into Trance and Hardstyle and a lot of things that are Nightcore'd Trance is the only genre that I could honestly say if I weren't a metalhead I would keep that as my favorite. |

I've heard some House, a one-hour video of it. It was pretty good indeed, I'll have to check out more of it. I think the reason I like Electronic music so much is because it's very similar to metal. |

That song was pretty cool. Here's one from a playlist I was listening to a while ago. Look up the guy's Trance playlist. He's got some pretty decent songs on there. I don't think there was a single one I didn't like. |

Not bad. One of the main reasons I really like Infected Mushroom though, is that they play trance live on instruments

I'm not one to particularly care if something is made with actual instruments or is computer generated. I mean, come on, even the best guitar work is altered through either computer-generation or an amp has to change it's sound. |

lol I've seen some good guitar-work that wasn't fully done by a person. I think Dragonforce uses some computer-generated guitar work. I know the guy is good enough to play like the songs suggest but I don't think it'd be so pixel perfect if it weren't for some computer alteration. |

You're talking about quantizing - and while some people DO quantize - calling that stuff the 'best guitar work' is at best a complete misunderstanding, and at worst an egregious error. |
