So yeah, my thoughts on the capcom and sfxt situation, with todays game breaking bug discovery being the catalyst in making me actually write something!

Anyway, I'm hoping to start regular reviews here, so this 'feature' will probably not be repeated to often, but I would appreciate your honest thoughts on it anyway.

http://billybugreviews.wordpress.com/2012/05/17/the-capcom-conundrum-65/

Note: Too much ranting, I know, need to tidy my writing up, a bit out of practice. Anyway, hope you guys enjoy it.

Awesome, I'll shoot you a friend request. One problem- are you Euro based or (sometimes I get decent connections) east coast USA? I'm the UK (west midlands to be precise) and, well, I'm kinda sorta semi-retired from fighters, but I still play sf4 and marvel 3 occasionally. I'll be down for some games if you fulfil the criteria :p

Ok I read it. I haven't played this title (SF x Tek), nor do I plan to, I will be honest billy bug, I did not enjoy SF4.

It was refreshing to see someone present solutions to their complaints, instead of just complaints.

I feel that it should be in some sort of different format. At first sight, I thought it looked too long, but after reading it, I saw why you included everything.

I do not know about blogs, or things of this nature, but my perspective as a reader who is there to check it out, is that I feel something needs to be added to break up the text, as it could discourage people.

I don't know, pictures? Position text differently?

That's my criticism, but in a nutshell (ah reminds me of this song - ,

I look forward to keep reading, to see a fresh perspective and different take on games.

Thanks for the criticism Gorilla, you cool dude, you. When I looked it over ten minutes after posting it, I realised it looked freaking LONG and very wall of texty so I added a few pics. Only a couple, but they're there :)

Thanks for the kind and honest words my man.

What Gorilla said.

lol

I stayed away from that game simply because the DLC. The Namco version will have no DLC ( we'll see ) and because of that I choose to ignore this title... Plus, I'm a real cheap ass, and usually purchase game in the $30 (U.S.) stack.

I rather enjoyed reading that despite the fact I've never played SFxT (or hell, I've barely played any Capcom fighting games as it is. Played MvC2 for a few weeks, a little of SSF4 at my cousin's house and also some MvC3 the same way but that's about it)

I would say that it's ridiculous to add anything into a fighting game that makes a fight totally impossible to circumvent and breaks everything. Hell, even the instant-kill moves in Guilty Gear can be blocked at the very least. In BlazBlue they added some restrictions to that as well such as needing a full Heat meter and needing to be the last round with the enemy having less than 25% of their health bar for you to be able to use it. Basically instant-kill Astral Heats are only meant to be used as finishers.

This gem system makes it sound like it's nigh impossible to even hit someone let alone fight them fairly. And of course projectiles freezing the game? That's kinda stupid. I've seen tournament level fights and how people use projectiles a LOT to prevent the other person getting closer or to stop their own projectiles (Guile vs Ryu, Sonic Boom vs Hadoken, the match took like ten minutes for one around because they were constantly doing this lol)

I'd definitely say it is a good kick-off for a review blog, the length doesn't even matter. Good reviews are details reviews!

Random thoughts while reading the post:

The writing is too conversational.

There's no need to say "Let's start at the beginning".

Too many run-on sentences with poorly placed punctuation.

The writing is too disjointed - there's no real flow to the article.

It reads like a high school term paper in form and writing style.

It tries so hard to sound formal and scholarly that it achieves the opposite effect.

It's a good try, but there's nothing that makes it stand out from the multitudes of other attempts that have the same tone and style and problems.

I like you, Billy. Don't take this personally. I'm just really tired of seeing that style of writing, especially after teaching college courses.

Leave it to Winternova to not criticize the content but the format in which it is written! :P

Can't wait to see what Winternova says about my reviews which tend to be more based on thought-process rather than trying to be a cohesive essay. jester::

This was the introduction paragraph of a paper that was submitted to me as a midterm assignment in my Criminology class:

"I chose Gacy as my serial killer for the simple fact that is a clown that runs around and rapes, tortures, and murders young men. I have an unnatural fear of clowns as does just about everyone else after seeing Stephen King’s IT. Also I am a young guy, I do not like the idea of getting kidnapped, drugged, then raped by a clown, I think it would be really unpleasant to wash face paint out of my cornhole. "

After reading something like that, you die just a little inside...after you stop laughing hysterically. :-)

Not only did I spot a typo in the very first sentence but that last sentence was just "lolwat" material. lol

I at least try to be as grammatically correct as I can, though I think I overdo my punctuation a lot and I know I use a lot of parenthesis but aside from that I don't try to make ridiculous metaphors. :P

I tell myself that all the time but I don't think I've improved one bit in all the time I've spent on forums. I tend to type essay-like posts but I go in circles a lot and I'm not good at description at all.

You know what? I was smarter before I started using forums. Not even joking. I see things spelled certain ways so much I start second guessing myself now. The Internet is making me stupid.
