First of all, hello everyone. I'm Apostle. It's my first topic here. Let us celebrate this with the adding of chocolate to milk. Arucard's going to get pissed when he reads this whole thing, but whatever. Anybody ever go back to the classics? I looked at my library of games the other day. Gears 3, which I still need to finish. Could replay a game I love, like Deus Ex: Human Revolution. I could've played more of Deadly Premonition and updated my diary on GFaqs. Could've had my hockey fix and played some NHL '12. None of that appealed to me. None of it sounded enticing. So I did what I always do in that situation: Dusted off an old console and played a timeless classic. 10 minutes later I found myself completely enthralled with The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. And I've got to say... I played 90 minutes, for the first two pendants, another Heart, and I enjoyed it more than some of the titles that I've been playing recently. Anybody else do the same sometimes? |

I do, but often some of the old games don't capture that feeling that they did back in the day. Some do, others not so much. Rolling Thunder still pulls me in, but Spy Hunter doesn't. That's what I like about some games like Decimation X3, they have the old school feel but with new mechanics that keeps it feeling fresh. I started to play Wild Arms again, but I thought maybe I should try a newer game with that kind of battle system. |

I remember Wild Arms. That guy with the brown coat has a pet mouse... Unfortunately, they don't make many turn-based JRPGs anymore. I miss them so much. |

Once in a while I'll fire up some of my old Xbox classics and run through them again. Not all of them have aged well, but I still have fun with them (usually). |

I go to this site called GOG.com to pick up some of the old games. Some of them just irritate me now though. Similar to what Cap said, for me as well. |

Yeah, I know about GOG. It's where I picked up a copy of Arcanum (If anyone ever wanted a magical version of Fallout, that's the game to get) for like $5. Which was great, considering that I couldn't get my hardcopy to work on.. Vista? 7? Ahh, I don't recall. Or care. Or even have it installed anymore. |

I love going back to the classics, but to be fair, you kind've cheated. A Link to the Past is just.... too good. Those first 90 minutes, leaving the house in the rain, going through that whole first castle, beating that... dragon/mace swinging guy at the end and opening that cell, having her follow you out of the castle... timeless. However, I actually find myself enjoying the SNES more than the N64. I think its because the N64 ALMOST resembles the Xbox controller, but its not quite the same, and feels lacking. I can't even play Goldeneye anymore, I used to be able to run through every inch of the facility with my eyes closed. |

Well I'm a massive JRPG fan, and the SNES-PS2 era is simply nirvana for me. But I always end up back to the SNES. To me, sprites stand the test of time. I look back at N64 and even some PS2 games and they're just.... Ugly. What was once beautiful now rapes my eyes. But so few 16 bit games ever suffered from framerate drops. |

Yeah, particularly on my PSP Go, which is mostly just a classic RPG player for me. |

Doom2006? Buddy! Let me jiggle your balls for you as a welcome! (Let's see if Cap is paying attention and alters this to be more search engine friendly) And yeah, I remember putting Chrono Cross on my PSP before the whole PSN Classics thing or whatever. It was notorious for being the most difficult PSOne game to put on a PSP, and it was the FIRST one I ever did. Although I never did the second disc properly and it crashed at the boss...

I'm not that uptight about the search engine thing. And where's Redfive3? He made an account here a long time ago. Edited by CapwnD, May 10 2012, 04:05 PM.

So so this! To the point whereby until they release PS1 support for the Vita, I'm on my PSP Go more than my Vita. |

Can the PSP or the PSP Go connect to the PSN and get the PS Classics? Like how FFVII is on there, can I download that to a PSP or PSP Go and play those games? I do not own a PS3 by the way, if that matters. |

Yes, you can do that. I would recommend against downloading it straight to the PSP though. Once, when downloading Harvest Moon, I got: [INSTALLATION FAILED] Lost all the data. RAAAAAAAAAAAGE! Considering all the total hours on a variety of Final Fantasies on there... I was not a happy bunny for a few days. So yeah, should you choose to get a PSP Go (and I would recommend it) I would suggest using Media Go to download it then transfer it over (pretty sure that is possible) like that. |

Hmm. I have certain methods to do it on my laptop (Won't discuss that), but something about having it all portable, how I wouldn't need to constantly adjust the setting between games... Just the convenience of it is pretty tempting. I'll have to talk to my Gamestop buddy Dan about that when I snag Dragon's Dogma today. He has every freakin' gaming device ever, so I'll see if he's willing to part with his Go. |

Yeah, I'd recommend getting one if you like classic RPGs. The Go gets bashed a lot on some forums, but my only gripes (minor) about it are the analog stick placement and battery life. Overall it is awesome, great traveling companion.

I have a 3DS, but... The 3DS titles are pretty lacking, and I've played most of the worthwhile DS titles (Get the Devil Summoner games if you haven't played them, they're great). Something about the classic RPGs always pull me back in... Maybe it's the nostalgia, I don't know. It's definitely the music, that's part of it. Nobuo Uematsu is nothing short of a God, he really is. Go listen to Terra's theme from FFVI and don't get nostalgic and crack a smile. I fucking dare you! Can't be done. Impossible, I say! |

Quote: Nobuo Uematsu is nothing short of a God, he really is. Go listen to Terra's theme from FFVI and don't get nostalgic and crack a smile. He is a legend in his own right. Everyone who has loved his games in their life will have a certain track, a small piece of music that slams you right back to the past. Something brilliant, something subtle... *something* that makes you feel. For myself, To Zanarkand has yet to be bettered. LOVE that beauty of a track. |

The Decisive Battle is my favorite from VI. But X is by far my favorite of the series, and even have To Zanarkand on my iPod. |

That heavy metal style track in FFX is amazing, really threw a curve ball at me when I heard it. It was such a radically different style than anything before it in the series. The one that plays during Tidus' Blitzball match when Sin attacks? That one. My favorite track of his, of all time, is Magus' boss battle theme in Chrono Trigger. Fun fact: If you take Magus to fight Queen Zeal in the Black Omen, Magus' theme will play during the fight, not the standard boss battle music. |
