My PS3 won't read discs anymore

I tried all the tricks (except reformatting), and I booted up in LInux and it seems like it just doesn't read anything with the disc drive anymore. This is very disappointing, and I have a feeling it's going to cost me money.

I just tried booting into Linux, and then I went back to boot-game-os and now it works.

So either my PS3 is dying or I tricked it into reading discs again.

But the disc didn't show up at all, which makes me think this is more of a software issue than the actual disc drive reading the disc. Maybe not... either way I just hope it's ok now. I don't want to lose my Linux and PS2 BC for one of the newer PS3s.

I see this issue happen a lot with PS3. My Dad buys PS3's off the internet and fixes them and resells them, usually it's just a simple Blu-ray drive swap. I think he usually spends $80 to buy a new Blu-ray drive. You could try fixing it yourself

i think i heard about that badour...is it the YLOD or somethng like that? I hope not..for cap's sake.

because cap if you get the YLOD I would have to believe your home is like the Bermuda Triangle for consoles. not that they disappear but.....bah nevermind. haha

Ha..... I know. Two of my 3 xbox 360s by me, and one of ours by Hax's moms house.

Hax's console was in a bad position, and they did just do that Rock Band or Guitar Hero achievement where you play 60 songs or something, and they took a break overnight and had it paused overnight... That's a bad move right there.

no YLOD yet... but it did freeze when trying to play Uncharted 2 yesterday, then it was fine.
