lol. It's a Linksys router, and Liniksys is Cysco who make great Industrial strength routers, but their home routers are as Meh as any home router. But if you install the custom firmware called DD WRT you can turn that normal home router into a sweet routing machine. You can install DD WRT on many different brand routers, but I'm pretty sure the project started on Linksys. Basically, it just works better and gives me a ton of options. I didn't use the Kaid version, but you could get the Kaid version which apparently is this gaming community thing so you could get your LAN games going over the internet. (a tunnel that tricks the xbox into thinking it's connecting to other local xboxes) We did this with Xbox to play Halo before XBL came, but now with the 360 they require a really low Ping to play network LAN games, so that makes it impossible for many 360 games. It also has QoS which lets you dedicate more bandwidth to certain MAC addresses, or maybe you want whatever is plugged into port #3 of the router to get more bandwidth.. You do that in the QOS section. These are just the common things you can do, it has so many other little things that I'm learning about. It's really exciting. Edited by CapwnD, Mar 26 2009, 05:14 PM.

I finally upgraded the firmware in my wrt54g to the latest version. It seems to have sped up my web browsing. I'll check ,y xbox tonight and hopefully it will fix my lag ass connection. i know I complain a lot about my bad connection but I'm regularly getting killed by people that haven't even appeared on my screen. fenix |

Nice. I left most everything automatic. I'm trying to figure out the perfect numbers to use for the QoS, but so far I have better speeds on XBL with it off so I must not be doing the numbers right, or there's an issue with one of my PCs. |
