The demo was very shot but I was definitely impressed.

I'm using control scheme "Alternate 2" and I'm still getting used to the controls but I think it's pretty fluid overall. The cover system is effective and a cool feature too. Towards the end of the demo you're on this elevated walkway and there are Helghast scattered about below you. When you're in cover you can't really see anything...but when you pop out of cover you have to be ready to shoot...and in the right direction.

I thought that was pretty cool and different from other shooters with cover systems. With other games with cover, in a third person view, you always know where the enemy is situated. It kinda provided an extra element that I bet will be even more thrilling when you get deeper into the SP campaign.

Graphically speaking, I was only moderately impressed by the environments, textures, chrachter models etc. (I realize this is just a 11-12 minute demo). However, I was extremely impressed by the animations. I made sure to watch closely for where my bullets hit a Helghast soldier and how his body reacted to each shot (as best as I could anyway). If I was spraying bullets and strafing from left to right, I enjoyed watching the enemy's (now punctured) body respond appropriately. Very very satisfying. You can't always see this happeneing when the enemy is far away.

I liked how the blood spray hits your camera when you're getting hit by enemy gunfire. If you see blood splatter on the bottom right had side of your screen it means your right leg is getting hit etc. Pretty cool I thought.

Overall...the graphics are Extremely good and I was quite happy to say the least. However, I gotta say this....the demo level and charachter models reminded me of Gears. I don't see how people say this is the most graphically superior game on the console market. The demo does rival Gears graphics and I imagine once we get to experience the full game we'll all get a more comprehensive perspective on it's overall quality....which I have no doubt will be pretty dope.

DOn't get me wrong...I loved the graphics...but the demo doesn't live up to the hype (the hype being "the most beautfiul game EVERr") in the graphics department. We'll see if the MP and the rest of the campaign changes my mind.

Movement / Sensitivity:
I noticed something interesting. Others have noted that turning is slower than most FPS. At first..this annoyed me. I cranked up the sensitivty and noticed that I could turn and look much faster. But when ADS, it turned out to be EXTREMELY hard to aim. So I dialed back the sensitivity to default and put up with the slow turning speeds so that aiming was much more ideal. After a while I got used to the slow turn speeds but wished it was just a tad bit quicker....just a touch. But, I definitely think it's better that it's slower than other FPS' to turn....more realistic I felt.

One thing's for sure....the demo solidifies it's place for me as a first day purchase. Based on the gameplay of the SP demo, I got a feeling I'll be LOVING the MP.

Great, now I want to go home and play the demo some more.

crikey it's only 9:37am. ack2::

In short.. this game is gonna be SICK.

your turn Cap!

I agree. Also, there's plenty of things I don't like about it. I used the Alternate 2 control scheme as well, and increased the sensitivity (I'm going to try it maxed out next).

To me the controls felt awkward. It was like the opposite side of the spectrium of Resistance2...R2 felt too fluid, this feels to jumpy.

The graphics are good, but I can't help but wonder why the video cutscens and game video trailers I've seen seem to have much better graphics then when I'm playing the game.

The gameplay seemed to be just more of the same.. enter area, shoot things, duck, cover, repeat. I guess I would like something more interesting to happen.

The AI was interesting. They seemed to take cover and adjust their cover when I would adjust my position. Smart AI dudes.

Overall I'm not sure if I'm even buying this. I heard Socom had some patch awhile ago that made it more playable, I may just buy that instead... I think that's more my type of game than the fantastic space alien thing.

I really hate being down on the game, I was hoping for something great for my PS3. I really want to utilize the PS3s great sound features for something other than movies and music. For me the problem is all of the games I like are cross platform, and I buy them on Xbox 360.

In terms of graphics it looks like we both agree that it's good but nothing spectacularly new or groundbreaking. BUt I think the demo doesnt do it full justice. I'd like to see some more levels but I got a feeling the graphics will be comparable to Gears.

yeah the AI is definitely pretty good. At one point all the Helghast in a particular area was dead except for one guy. I rushed him and he yelled out "oh shit!" and turned to run! lol...i shot him in the back.

when you increase the sensitivity it gets ridiculously hard to aim when ADS. Increased sensivity is good for when you're not ADS though. I found it easier to just keep at default settings.

I agree with you on the SP campaign in that the gameplay is just more of the same. I read some review that talks about this and it's basically the usual thing...no real innovation here.

Though the controller scheme will take getting used to I think aiming in general wasn't terrible like R2. Using Alternate 2, I use my index finger to ADS and my middle finger to crouch. It was awkward at first but I'm slowly getting used to it. I think with a little practice I could be good.

You know that in MP there is no cover system, right?

Though the SP will be your typical shooter I think the MP is going to be good. It won't take a lot of bullets to kill someone and though turning speeds are slow, everyone will have that disadvantage so it evens out. If someone is playing with increased sensitivity, they'll have the drop on you in close quarters situations but will have a hard ass time shooting you from afar.

Most importantly....I got a good feeling about the MP....still a day one purchase for me.

I didn't use the cover system much anyways.

I was thinking about getting those triggers for the PS3 controller.. they snap on the R1 buttons so that it feels more like a trigger.

i bought them on amazon. do a search for real triggers ps3. Also, I created a thread in the ps3 forum about them...i thin i included a link.

5.99 per pair. Rip off but at the same time....so worth it. Totally changes the feel of the controller.

yo Cap,

some guys that I know that LOVE Gears are saying that KZ2 has better graphics than Gears. This surprises me.

Tonight, I'll be runnning both Gears and KZ2 at the same time and switching between HDMI and Component inputs to do a comparison. I must get to the bottom of this. lol

Friday night I had a lot of time to compare gears2 graphics and kz2 graphics. I stand by my original statement that gears2 is better graphics wise. BUt I got another buddy who did the same thing that swears Kz2 has better graphics.

Note: my other buddy who did this is a huge Gears fan and has had his xbox360 for about two years and his ps3 for about 1 year now.

EDIT:
Also, the more I play the demo, the higher I can adjust my sensitivity when aiming. It helps a lot with turning speeds.

forget to mention this before regarding graphics...though I think that Gears graphics is better I'm pretty sure the animations (hit detection) is better in KZ2 than anything else I've ever seen.

if y ou hitenemy in his upper let shoulder...his upper left shoulder, jerks backwards. If you throw a grenade behind the enemy and it blows up, he comes flying AT you. lol....there are a bunch of other very impressive things.

Also..this game is a perfect marriage of Gears2 and Cod4 I felt. And with the increased sensitivity I'mplaying at (one notch lower than max), turning speeds aren't really that much of a hindrance IMO.

I haven't looked at them side by side. I'm not a big fan of either game anyways.
