I want to play through the other metal gears first. I finished 1 in a day, number 2 is taking me a hell of a lot longer, I am hoping to power through it tonight, tomorrow start and possibly finish 3 and this weekend tackle 4. |

I know ive said this a few thousand times..... but maybe this weekend I might get a PS3.... For the mic... What Blutooth headset should I use? I have a Samsung Blootooth headset my mom bought like a year ago. She barely uses it. |

Still haven't logged into my PS3 Andrew... usually I have that thing on almost daily for DVDs and stuff, but lately I've been using it for Linux instead. |

Got one. IxMONKEYxI I think the console is a POS. Downloading stuff is so crap... I ended up downloading the Motorstorm 2 demo twice.... I'm still tinkering with it anyways. |

Nice. You may want to reformat before you get too much stuff on there, and allocate 10 gigs for Linux, then install Linux on it. |

You can back up your stuff that you have on your PS3 already... just uninstall any games and delete demos to save space and make it a faster process (or just back it all up if you want and if you have room). Then you format the PS3s HDD, and when you do that, tell it to leave 10 gigs out for"Other OS" Then you can install linux. There's tutorials... the two that I would look at are eitehr Ubuntu or Yellowdog. I like Ubuntu, specifically from here http://psubuntu.com/ It's pretty easy stuff. Once you have it installed, you go to the PS3s system settings and hit "default system" and chose "other OS". The pS3 will reboot and boot into Linux. To get back to the PS3 you type "boot-game-os" or "ps3-boot-game-os" Or you hold down the power button for 5 seconds if you really get stuck. There's zero danger of messing up your PS3, you can't touch the PS3 files from LInux. With Linux on PS3, you're limited on what you can do.. they don't give you the full power of the PS3s core and all that. Plus the PS3 is already low on ram, so you're limited. But there's good things you can do. The most complex games it can run with emulation are SNES games, to give you an idea of how much power you'll have. But you can browse and stuff like that. Not related to Linux at all... but did you know you can upgrade your PS3s HDD to a bigger one, but you still would only get 10 gigs allocated for Linux. Edited by CapwnD, Jun 27 2009, 09:40 PM.

What would I even want to use linux for? Is it basically getting a Linux computer? I don't need another. I have my PC right beside me the whole time. I know about HDD upgrading. Maybe I will do it later on. If I do, I might go for 250gb. Question.... Can I game share with you guys? I wanted to gameshare with this guy, but he already shared it with 5 people. I have no credit card and I want to try out some PSN games.... |

Actually, I think I will do this.I did some research. So Ubuntu is the best one to use? I don't have a USB keyboard and mouse. I got pissed off at my wireless KB&M like a year ago and threw it out of my bedroom window... let's just save that for another time... How is firefox? Can it get the flash plug in? |

You can get flash I believe, but I havn't gotten that yet. It's not as easy as some things are to get... Usually to install stuff, you don't go download it, you go to your update thing and you pick it from a list. But for flash you have to do some other stuff. Otherwise, you can do all the other stuff with Firefox. You can get extensions the same way and all that. I like Ubuntu, and I've used a bunch of others. Somebody said that people from Europe like Yellowdog and that North America or the US likes Ubuntu. I've tried a few times now, and keep going back to Ubuntu. In the past, Yellowdog may have been a better choice because things like wirleess were working from the start, but if you download the version of Ubuntu I linked above, it's enabled from the start with Ubuntu too. Same with the wireless controllers... that used to be a Yellowdog thing, but now I think that version of Ubuntu has enabled from the begining... or at least it's not hard to get going. Are you using an HDTV? That's one thing you may want to look at. BUt I think all newest installers have the video settings options when you start it up. Edited by CapwnD, Jun 28 2009, 01:42 PM.

I am playing on 1080p bitch! Is it really worth it though? I have my computer right next to me. I hear a lot about linux being customizable. Know what I want? I want a MAC OSX on PS3.... bust it appears linux is the only OS. |

I like it. I use it if I'm going to a website that's questionable, and I like learning about that stuff. Networking it to other computers and set up permissions and all that. If you don't like it you can reformat and get rid of the partition. |

I'll be back on my PS3 on Thursday. I'm on vacation until then but I'll accept invites when I get back. I'm still not a fan of the PS3 yet but I'm going to give it some time. I do like streaming movies to it better than the xbox because I have HDMI coming out of my PS3. Hopefully I'll have a little time to game when I get back from Washington. Have no interest in loading Linux on my PS3 though. fenix |
