I posted this as a reply to steves question but thought it would be better as a stand alone topic as thetitle would attract more people to it (swiss if possible set this as a sticky so its always at the top of the list)....

ok so this tutorial should help the princibles behind it are the same for doors as they are for a single floor elevator.

thedoor will be a sliding door moving either left to right or up and down the choice is yours so here we go.

1./ start by building your level ive quickly thrown 1 together for demo purposes...

2./now you need to find the mesh you want to use as a door in the static mesh browser...
Posted Image

3./so now you have the staticmesh selected in the browser go back to the main unreal window and you want to click the "ADD MOVER" button.
Posted Image

4./Once you have clicked the "ADD MOVER" button the mesh will appear in a lovely pink colour this is a mover position it where you would like your door to be in the "closed" position.
Posted Image

5./ once the door is correctly positioned right click it and choose "MOVER" and then click key0 this sets the doors closed position.
Posted Image

6./ Right click the door again and this time choose "MOVER" and click on key1,
Posted Image
THEN move the door to the open position.

7./ now right click the door 1 last time and choose "MOVER" and click on key0 this will reset the door back to the closed position rebuild the level and play to check it works....

That's ace - thanks Adam! I think it would be great if we could have a lot more of these and get different members of the class to write up some. Hey, or even get the ever wise second years to post some blurbs.

ok so i thought that 1 or 2 of us might find this of some use....

if you want to make your newly modeled and moving door into a triggered door so that it opens by pressing a button or so that multiple doors open as you approach them then here we go

1./ you have your doors set up and moving but currently you have to touch them before they begin to animate so jump into the actor browser (the chess peice) and down to triggers click the little + next to it to open the dropdown and inside is 1 called trigger click that...
Posted Image

2./ now right click where you would like your trigger i have mine where my door is.....
Posted Image

3./ double click the trigger to open its properties and open the event tab now you need to be careful you get this right in your head as it can lead tomany a headache but set the event to something such as doors1 and leave the tag for now but when you get more than a few triggers in a map you better retag them all...
Posted Image

4./now do the same for the doors only you want the doors TAG to be the same as the triggers event... so if the trigger event is named doors1 then the door tag better be doors1 too simple enough huh..
Posted Image

5./ now open the OBJECT tab in the doors properties and set the INITIAL STATE as "TriggerOpen Timed" this tells the door that it needs the trigger to tell it to open

rebuild and test in game

oh and to make it so the door is opened by pressing a button use a "USE TRIGGER" in the actor browser instead of a regular trigger the rest is the same.

as always any problems let me know
