" AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" screamed a young male Master as a blade was driven into his gut,and twisted as the body of his Servant faded nearby. As the clouds over head parted the balcony was lit up by moonlight revealing the victorious pair as they finished off their prey. Tearing it's sword free stood a male knight with blonde hair, and behind him stood his Master. As he stepped into the light he patted his Servant on the shoulder " Good job now that the last of the pests are out of the way we can get what we came for." said Andrew as he steeped into view. He didn't have much magical power on his own, but he was lucky to summon this particular Servant, as he had quickly proven to be the most powerful. Andrew motioned for his Saber to enter the church to obtain his desire. "As you wish Master." said Saber without an ounce of emotion, and quickly ran for the main door of the Church. This Church was supposed to be a safe haven, but it quickly turned into a blood bath when the location of the Grail was discovered to be inside. As Andrew took his time making his way to the door the sounds of combat echoed through the church, but they quickly stopped as the Church supervisor fled from his Servant's onslaught. " Uggh I need to stop them, but I'm done for..." thought the Supervisor as he made his way to where the Grail was stored. In a final act the Supervisor turned to face Saber once again, but his final attack was blocked by the invisible sword, and was cut in half a mere second later. " I can't believe we pulled this off!" said Andrew as he entered the room as the supervisor's lifeless body hit the floor, and scanned the room for his prize. Near the center of the room stood a large alter on which sat the Grail awaiting the for the War to finish so it could grant the winner it's wish. As Andrew placed his hands on the alter a surge of magical power flowed through his body paralyzing him as the darkness in his heart ruined the purity of the Grail. "Master let go!" yelled Saber as he noticed the blood from the slain Masters begin to flow into the room, and into the waiting Grail. As the corruption began to spread into his body Andrew forced one sentence out of his mouth before he was overcome "Run Saber!" As he was overcome the corruption in the Grail began to flow onto the floor, and took to the air in the form of black feathers. As it surged forward Saber spoke a single word that was lost in the sound of the surge as he fled from the Church as the corruption spread through the church. Meanwhile the now Corrupted Andrew was allowed to let go of the Dark Grail as it's power warped his mind to it's own means . Andrew quickly put his new enhanced magical power to use by repairing to better protect the Grail. He was well aware that the surge of magical power at the Church would alert the remaining Masters, and any other magus that an object of magical power was in the city. But both he, and the Grail needed more power so luring the most promising Candidates to the Church seemed the quickest way to gain that power. In the mean time the city was slowly getting absorbed into the Grail as it was slowly turned into magical power.

Spoiler: click to toggle

The Raid on the Church begins.

As the corruption began to spread into the city a group of magus gathered near the Church as the City was slowly consumed by the Grail. This might be their only chance to save their city and if they failed the results would be terrifying for them, and the city. Now lets see how this story plays out shall we?

I crept up the hill, eyeing the doors with intent. Beside me were many magi, more than I could be asked to count at this time. Each of them with a common goal; Destroy the Holy Grail. It's funny. The same thing we each would have striven for, is now our enemy. The outside was grotesque sight. There was mud covering the entire walls of the church, as well as on the grass. The entire place reeked with magical energy, and I hated it. This kind of energy was something that sent chills straight down my spine.

"Huh." I subconsciously murmured to myself, continuing my walk. Whoever was inside would probably sense us, and would strike at any moment. He had to be watching us. There was no way he could be oblivious to the amount of magi here. Their magical energy levels added on to the already absurd levels in this area. I took a deep breath, feeling the magical energy on my pallet. Yet, I continued forth. It was not until I sped ahead of the crowd, that I learned the danger. I had grown bored with this cautious advance, and I crept up to the wall. Once I did so, I closed my eyes.

"Huuuh!" With that low grunt, I turned my magic circuits on. The trigger was simple; A sword cutting through water. The mental image flipped up into my head, and magical energy began to course through my circuits like veins. Within seconds, I had prepared an image in my head of the sword, and already projected it into my hand. Vulf. The only sword I could successfully project. It was sad, though the sword itself was a very nice craft. Perhaps it could match low level noble phantasms, though I highly doubt that.

"Right." Without waiting for the other masters, I began my attack on the church. I busted the door open-...

"Shit!" I jumped out of the doorway, barely avoiding a familiar strike onto myself. It completely shattered the doorway, and would have shattered my body if that thing made contact with me. I couldn't win. I would die the moment I tried to stand up to it. It launched another attack...!!

"Huaah..!!" I rolled out of the way, dodging another killing blow. Then came another, and another. Another. Another. Another. Another. This familiar swung it's arms down like giant sledge hammers, each attack containing enough strength to grind me to dust. I am going to die. I can tell it. My body's beginning to freeze up with these shadows. I'm lucky whoever's controlling these have yet to send out more. I was safe, for now. I was way too far ahead of the other magi. Unless they sensed my presence and my distress, I doubt they would be able to get there in time to assist me. The only thing I could do right now is evade.

"Haaaaaaaaaaaah!!" I rolled backwards, stumbling down the hill. I was able to evade the twentieth attack from this monster, yet it kept up with the onslaught. Each attack I dodged guarantee'd me two more seconds of life. My body could barely keep up. I was on servant level in terms of agility, yet my body could barely keep up. I was nearing the other masters. I was going to get out of this alive...!!

Adam was about to turn off the lights when it started to happen. What was the first sign that he got, he wondered? Was it the black feathers that rained from the sky, or was it the chill that ran throughout his magic circuits? He had been aware of the Holy Grail war in the tournament in the city, but he hadn't been chosen for a master for it. Although disappointed as he was, having come from such a long line of magi, he had decided to remain in the city to see what happened.

What he was feeling though wasn't normal. There was an object of great power within the city. Had the Grail already materialized? It might have, but something felt wrong. The power emanating from the object was dark. It was the most evil presence he had ever felt in his entire life. Whatever it was, it was something that obviously posed a threat to the safety of the city. As such, it was something that warranted his attention.

Even though he had been about to go to bed, it didn't take Adam long to get himself ready to head out. In all honesty, he had things set up to allow for a quick exit. In his opinion, a magus had to be prepared for anything that he could be prepared for. Quickly changing into long black gym shorts, he threw on a white Adidas muscle shirt and his black and gray hooded windbreaker jacket on over that. Heading downstairs, he opened the hall closet and reached up to the top shelf, retrieving a Japanese longsword. Sliding the strap on the sheath over his shoulder and across his chest, he threw the hood up over his head and stepped out into the gradual and constant rain of black feathers.

Approaching the source of the magical energy emanating from the object, Adam realized that it came from the church the was supposedly the safe haven for the Grail War. To be honest, it wasn't much of a surprise. Never the less, he had to make a decision then as to how he was going to handle this. Would he bust down the door and face whatever was inside without a plan, or would he hand back and wait to see if anyone else came to check things out as well. He couldn't have been the only one to have felt the object's power. Stepping into the trees across the street from the church, he closed his magic circuits to conceal his presence to those who might be inside the church. He couldn't tell over the presence of the one that had alerted him back at his estate.

Presently, another figure approached the church. This one wasn't nearly as cautious as Adam had been, however. Although he tried to get his attention from through the trees, the figure continued on ahead, busting down the front door of the church. Not two seconds later though, there were sounds of fighting from within the church. Adam clicked his teeth. Who would've done something so brainless? He wondered. He was about to break his cover and go to help when he suddenly felt several new presences approaching as well.

From up the road, a group of three people approached the church. Showing a suddenly confident grin, Adam stepped back into the cover of the trees and gave a well-disguised bird's whistle. Turning into the trees, the approaching group of people formed a circle with Adam, now close enough so that they could see each other clearly. They all looked at each other quickly before all looking at Adam. "I'm glad you all didn't get left behind," he said with a slight hint of a joke. "I was about to roll in there without you all."
"Whatever, man. We had to wait on Erin for a bit before we started coming here," said one of them, a boy with messy blonde hair that was about as tall as Adam as he looked at another member of the group; a girl with long flowing brown hair and a well-developed figure that was a bit shorter than the two guys.
"I was about to go to bed," replied the girl named Erin, slightly flustered now. "And I live farther away than all of you."
"Yeah, whatever," said the last member of the group, a boy that was a bit younger and shorter than the rest of them, showing a grin from under his messy black hair that hung down in his eyes. "We all know how you've gotta do more than us to get ready for the day, Erin."
"Shut up, Ryan!" retorted Erin as she turned to him.
"Alright, let's do this," interrupted Adam. "Ryan, Erin, Max, are you ready to go?" Adam was now feeling more confident about approaching the church. Like him, Erin, Max, and Ryan were magi, and they all complimented each other. While he had learned mainly offensive magecraft, Max had gained a decent arsenal of defensive spells. To further complete the team, Erin had learned many spells that were useful for illusions and mental attacks. Ryan, being a bit younger than them, hadn't yet developed his magecraft to the degree that they had, but he was great with other means of combat, guns in particular.

All at once, the small team of teenage magi broke their cover and headed for the church. Unlike the person that had gone head-long through the front door though, they kept their distance as they made their way around towards the back of the church. On the back of the church, there was a small doorway that lead from the church into the small flower garden behind the building. Although the flower garden had since wilted from the falling feathers, the door still remained. Lining up against the wall beside the door, Erin checking behind them to see if they had been discovered, Max stepped forward. Gripping the door handle, he slowly opened the door and the group flooded into the room, ready to face whatever was on the other side of the wall.

The sudden surge of foul mana originating from the direction of the Church sent a chill run up both the spines of both a mercenary trained in magecraft and a magus archaeologist from their respective bases of operations.

"This isn't good." Celeste stated as she grabbed her bag of spell components as well her magick grimorie. "I'd better head over to the church in order to put an end to this affair."

Meanwhile in Simone's hotel, Simone was preparing herself for close-quarters combat. Her reinforced sawed-off shotgun capable of stopping a sword without damage was slipped into its 'scabbard' while her other holsters and sheaths were quickly filled with her other weapons. Once she was finished, she grabbed her bolt-action rifle and loaded it.

"My assignment was clear. Dispatch all opposition and either obtain or destroy the grail in order to prevent future acquisition." Simone said as she slid her Sako rifle into a guitar case and headed for the target site.

When the two female mages arrived they realized that they weren't the only two people seeking the target.

Beside the Dark Grail sat Andrew as he new magic had began to destroy the town, and draw out the magus in the town. Even as they tried to hide their presence he could sense them gather in small groups, and in turn those groups joined other small groups to form larger ones. In time they formed one large group, and advanced on the Church to either take the Grail for themselves, or to destroy it. But in that group Andrew could sense a large amount of desire, awe and evil "Yes we can use them to our advantage." said Andrew to something only he could see. In a few minutes the group of mangus where only a few yards away, and a grin formed on his face as he felt even more power flow into his body as the City was consumed to give his Grail even more power. His eyes turned black as he tapped into the Grails power, and a group of black creatures began to form from the mud pouring from the Grail. On an unspoken command they made their way to the front of the Church even as more of their brothers, and sisters were yet to be born. It was then that Ryu broke through the front door, and was greeted by the first of those creatures. A hollow laugh echoed through the room as Andrew watched the events between Ryu, and his creature unfold with his new powers. It wasn't long before Ryu began to run back towards the group he left behind."Oh no we can't have that can we?" asked Andrew as his eyes turned black again. Up in the sky above the Church a black mass began to form, and by the time the group noticed it, and began to throw up protective spells it was too lack to stop in. In an instant the mass broke apart into a mass of black spines that lunched themselves at the group. Those who managed to throw up some form of protection had to watch as many of their fellow mangus where impaled by the spines, and listen to the cries of pain from those still alive. But those cries of pain quickly ended as the Grail claimed their fleeting lives, and the bodies dissolved into black mist. Andrew laughed even more as the large group was quickly reduced to half it's size "And they expect to obtain the Grail with this?" thought Andrew as his eyes returned to normal.

Meanwhile the group that took the back door was met with an even worse fate. As they advance they met no resistance and they managed to even make it into the room that held the Grail, but that was when all hell broke loose. As Adam, and Ryan advance ahead with Erin, and Max following behind Andrew made his move. An ear shattering scream from Erin broke the silence, and the reason quickly became apparent. Max had thrown up one of his defensive spells to block an attack, but a series of black blades had broken through it. And as the retracted they each pulled out an organ in a brutal display. But that was only a warm up to what would happen to Erin. Even as she screamed a large mass of tainted mud fell from above, and showered down on her. As the mud at away at her being Andrew stepped from the shadows his body, and face splattered with Max's blood. As the mud did it's work, Erin's very essence was stolen in front of her friends before her body finally turned into black mist. " I'll have to give you some credit since you were smart enough to go in through the back. But did you think only four of you would be enough to obtain the Grail?" asked Andrew as he turned to address the 2 remaining members as they the stood speechless. As he spoke more of the mud began to flow from the Grail, and Max's remains quickly disappeared from sight.

Adam and Ryan watched in horror and despair as the other two members of the group were brutally murdered before their eyes. No, brutal wasn't the right word to describe it. It was extreme enough. The deaths given to Max and Erin were heartless, both slow and excruciatingly painful. When he was all over, Max was only a shell, his organs having been ruthlessly torn from his body, and Erin was simply gone. There was nothing left of her except the black mist that quickly dissipated into the air. Even as the magus behind them spoke, the two were speechless as more of the tainted mud flowed from the Grail, eating the remains of Max just like it had Erin.

"I'll have to give you some credit since you were smart enough to go in through the back. But did you think only four of you would be enough to obtain the Grail?" asked the magus behind them that stepped out of the shadows in the middle of the killings. Immediately, Ryan turned to face him, quickly reaching under his jacket and retrieving a Cold Python revolver. Even as he aimed the sights at the man's head though, they continued to shake. It wasn't the gun, however. The sights were aligned perfectly. It was the boy's hands that were shaking. They were shaking so badly that he couldn't aim the gun straight as he glared at the man, his eyes filled with near madness, so great were the emotions running through him at that moment.

Still facing the Grail and away from the magus, Adam reached over his shoulder. As the sound of metal of metal filled the room, he drew the sword on his back, turning his head to look back at the man as the blade rested at his shoulder. Although he wasn't shaking like Ryan, the same murderous intent seemed to flow from him. No, flowing was too calm a term. Although it seemed to emanate from his entire being, it was concentrated like a laser as he glared over his shoulder at the man behind them. "You," he said to the man. "Are you the sicko behind all of this?" He didn't even wait for an answer from the man though. "Yeah, I thought we could do it," he said, now not talking to anyone in particular. "It wouldn't have been the first time we'd pulled off something like this. We've seen some f***ed magi in the past." The memories flooded through his mind as he spoke. How they had all met, recognized that they were all magi, and started practicing. They had learned to work together, to pool their talents, and the results had been incredible. Their abilities all complimented each other so well that they felt they could've taken on anything. Apparently, there was an enormous difference between a couple of misguided magi and the powers of God, or perhaps the devil.

"We worked well as a team. There was no way that any normal person, normal or magi, could've beaten us," said Adam, almost in disbelief. He looked up at the tainted Grail before them that was continuously leaking mud out into the room. One by one, he tapped into each and every magic circuit in his body that he could. He wasn't sure if he was doing in involuntarily or not, but his left hand had begun to crackle as static electricity began to jump from the tips of his fingers. "For killing them with such a tainted power- no- for killing them at all, I will never let you live this down. As long as you live, we will hunt you to the ends of the earth!"

All at once, all hell seemed to break loose. As Adam spun around, Ryan's finger squeezed down on the trigger, firing a round from the .357. "Go ahead and die!" he shouted. He didn't stop there though. After the first shot, he slid his back foot back and gripped the pistol with both hands, firing all five remaining shots at the man that had killed Max and Erin. He wasn't the only one that attacked either. Adam, forming his left hand into a gun, aimed his hand at the man and fired three small shots from the tips of his fingers, the Rai Gandr Shot. As soon as that was done though, his body began to move. His feet didn't move though, but he moved faster than if he had started a full-out sprint as he moved off to the left. Landing on his feet, he gripped his sword with both hands, raising the blade over his head, where it began to crackle with electricity like his hand had done earlier. "Raitei," said Adam as he eyed the target, speaking the incantation and gripping the blade tightly. "Shourai!"

"Haaaaaa-...!!" I had just dodged my fiftieth attack. There was no way I could evade this thing. If I kept evading, I would eventually die, and not be able to even enter the front door. I couldn't die. I couldn't die. I couldn't die. I couldn't die. If I died, all of my workings would be in vain. All my years of training would be in vain. I can't die-....!!!

"Haaaa!!!!!" I kick off the ground, rushing towards the shadow head on. I had hope. I had hope that I could win this exchange of blows. I was running at full speed, that normal magi couldn't even hope to track. I closed in on my prey, readying my sword. Within a second, I slash through the outside of the shadow with my sword, and continue on my course. I look back and-...

"Huh!!?" My sword began to crawl with some black gunk as the beast turned it's eyes towards me again. The attack had barely done anything. If I wanted to kill these beasts, I'd have to strike at a higher part, and hope to decapitate them. The sword in my hand instantly shattered. Prepare another image. Project, and parry. My mind began to tell me what to do, and I followed it's instructions to the letter. After preparing a second Vulf, and projecting it, I turned around and parried the strike, barely escaping a killing blow. This couldn't be my mind. My mind was not that exact. It had to be a keen fighting instinct that every fighter develops after many years of fighting.

"Watch out!" Called a familiar voice as she flung her spells my way. They impacted the Shadow, and it bubbled up. I knew this was my chance. It was hurt by said spell, and there was no way I could lose now. I crouched down like a prowling tiger, taking grip of my sword with both hands. With a low growl, I leaped off like a bird. I flew through the air, to the lumbering giant's head, and out through the back with a powerful horizontal stroke. A few seconds before I landed, the Shadow's head landed, and the condensed magical energy was let up.

"Thanks-..." I called out to the one magi. It was my childhood friend from the clocktower, Abbiah Litwin. She was the top of our class, and quite ironically the only girl that didn't drop out due to our rowdy attitudes. She shared the same attitude as most students: Rowdy, rude, tomboyish. I expected to see her in matted hair and her usual jeans and T-shirt. However, it's been six years since I've last seen her-...

"Hey, Ryu." She called out in a soft voice, her clothes quite contradicting to what they were before. She wore a lady like yellow shirt, flaunting her curves, and a Black skirt with black stockings. I've always wondered if that's what the standard magi dress is. I've seen numerous female magi from the clock tower wearing that. I shake my feelings off as I look towards the door. I didn't have time to reminisce on the past, or lust on her new outfit. We were best buddies in the academy, how could I think such things?

"Let's go. More are coming." I ready my sword, stepping forward cautiously. Priority one; Protect Abbiah. She must be protected at all costs. I slowly step forward once more, nearing the church door. I stepped through the sizzling frame, and Abbiah was soon to follow. There were no sign of those beasts again, but that only lasted for a few seconds.

"..!!" I jumped back, almost falling into Abbiah. A shadow had lunged out from the darkness, aiming to pummel me into dust. Abbiah knew what to do as she launched her spell again, paralyzing the shadow. With god like reflexes, I launch myself at the middle of the shadow, lunging Vulf straight through it. The already grime encrusted blade broke with the extra goo on it, but I hastily projected another. Another comes, and I throw everything I have at it. I launch myself at it while Abbiah casts a different spell, reinforcing me. Her spells made her a support magi. Paralysis, reinforcement, illusions, Healing. She cast reinforcement on my entire body, and I moved at an even faster speed. My strength, agility, and endurance were all on the C level-...!!

I cut straight through the monster, Vulf cracking. I quickly apply my own reinforcement magic to vulf, fixing the cracks, and pushing the goop off. The attacks had died down for now, and Abbiah and I hurried. By the time we maneuvered to the back of the chapel, four more magi appeared, none of which we knew. They ran off ahead. Good, let them. I'd rather be last to the grail than risk Abbiah's life.

"C'mon, Ryu!" She anxiously says, grabbing my arm. I nearly drop vulf as she drags me off towards the garden, where the other magi were already. Once we linked up with them, we would have six magi there. The other ones were no joke compared to Abbiah and myself. Even Abbiah, who was the top of her class couldn't take on one of those by herself. When we arrived with them, they were already in combat with five shadows. I immediately leaped into the fray, slashing at the shadows. My skills were at the level where I could take these on head to head, thanks to Abbiah's reinforcement. I cut one down, and the magi neutralized two others. I now stood head to head with one of the shadows, however. Abbiah tried to run in to the other side to assist me, but one of the shadows went after her. Fuck! She was going to die if I didn't do anything!

"Haaaaah!!" I lunged out towards that shadow, the other one grazing my sword. Fuck! Vulf began to crack, but I continued on course. I cut the shadow's head off, saving Abbiah, and I impacted a wall, nearly breaking through it. The last shadow was quickly killed by the other four magi, and they ran on. I was left with Abbiah to treat my injuries. I gripped my foot, setting Vulf aside. The reinforcement I had cast on it would last for a while longer, protecting Vulf from any cracks.

"Ryu! Are you okay!?" She called out, running towards me. I let a pained sigh out, looking at my foot. My foot ached, though I tried to channel it off with reinforcement, and my hands. Abbiah crouched down next to me, taking a look at the wound. She bit her lip, rubbing her hands. I heard something like "God ryu, you're going to be the bloody death of me" come out from her as she presses her glowing hands on my foot. I feel a sudden surge of magical energy, and get sick to my stomach. Seconds later, I vomit.

"Yeah, come on, Abbiah." I stammer out, standing up. I grab Vulf, walking on. I tried to ignore what I had felt there with Abbiah, but it wasn't working out that well. Together, we walked into the dark stairwell, side by side. Two magi slowly followed us, seeming as we were the middle part of the strike force.

Andrew merely watched the reaction of the remaining two magus as he steeped from the shadows. One pulled out a gun and took aim, but his hands shook so much it would have been hard for him to land a single shot. Andrew's attention quickly shifted to the other young man as he spoke. As he drew his sword an aura of hate surrounded the young man, a demonic grin began to creep onto Andrew's face. It still seemed like the man was still in shock, but at least he was still able to function even though he had just witnessed the differences between himself and an average magus. As the young man spoke a large amount of black energy wrapped around Andrew's hand, and formed a set of black claws. As the first shot left Ryan's gun Andrew became a black blur as the bullets, and Adam's magic flew past him, and stuck the wall behind him " It seems I still need to take out the trash." thought Andrew as Adam's sword was charged with magical power. In a torrent of magical power a red energy began to cover Andrew's right arm, and coiled around his right hand in a swirling red pulse as he began to chant " My guide is the death-calling starling!". As he finished the last line the energy collected on his pointer finger, and took the vague form of a crimson bird that launched itself at Adam.

Mean while as Ryu, and his small group advanced in through the back they would find a group of wolf-like Shadows blocking their path. Unlike the others they faced at this point this weren't just mindless beasts, but had formed a pack mentality. As a testament to their new intelligence the four magus that had entered the Church before them were in tatters scattered around the floor in a pool of blood. As the group was taking in the sight the first of the Shadows spotted them, and let out a loud roar alerting the others. In a chorus of mashing fangs, and claws they quickly split up to surround the group. The two magus following Ryu, and Abbiah quickly opened fire with their own selection of spells, and managed to take out one of the Shadows, but even as they took down a second, and a third more red eyes peered out of the darkness.

Meanwhile in the City the first of the buildings began to fall to the Grail's onslaught, and were absorbed into the tainted mud. As they did the Grail's power grew to the point it created a Boundary Field of it's own preventing anything from leaving or entering the City. How long can our Heroes hold out? Will Adam, and Ryan be greeted by Death? Will Ryu, and Abbiah mange to make it to the Grail room alive? Will Saber come back to help the mages against the Dark Grail?

Simone's head felt as if someone had driven an axe through her skull as she felt the massive display of corrupted magic through her mind's eye. Her rifle fell from her hands as she gripped both sides of her head while the migraine of the century rippled through her mind.

You must remain conscious, Simone! A voice reminiscent of her old commander spoke through her head, Or you shall suffer the same fate as the others.

As the Finnish sharpshooter continued to suffer from the repercussions of her magic detection spell, a blond woman carrying a messenger bag and smoking a cigarette approached her and sent a burst of magical energy through her to return her to her surroundings.

"Are you alright, miss?" The blond woman asked as she reached a hand out to help Simone to her feet. "It seems like someone has obtained the power of the Grail and is using it maliciously."

Simone's hand instinctively reached for her revolver and quickly drew it from its holster before snap aiming and firing a .454 Casull round at the woman.

The round flew towards Celeste before veering off and striking a tree instead.

"What in the world?" Simone questioned as she took a step back and leveled the large revolver at the woman once more, unsure of the woman's intentions.

Celeste frowned as she took a drag from her cigarette.

"Look I just watched a bunch of mages get slaughtered by some dark magic, I mean you no harm." She stated as she pointed towards the church, "If you expect to stand any chance we'll have to work together."

Now it was Simone's turn to frown as she lowered her weapon.

"Fine, but how do you suppose that we get through that death zone?" Simone stated as she holstered her weapon and pointed towards the tainted field in front of the church.

"We will have to move quickly to avoid death." Celeste stated as she pulled out a thick grimoire from her bag, "Hold still I'm going to cast a spell to increase your movements."

Simone picked up her rifle and gave the mage an uneasy look.

"You sure that this will work?" Simone asked before looking around the field.

The blond nodded before beginning her incantation.

After the incantation the two women ran across the field ready to either dodge or deflect (in Celeste's case) any more of the dark magic.

SERVANT TO THE SUPREME JEDI OVERMIND

I gasped at the sight. We had taken a wrong turn. I began to curse myself. I stood there, projecting a second Vulf in my spare hand. I was a force to be reckoned with, though I doubt I'll survive against a pack of these. I had to do something though. I couldn't let Abbiah die. I couldn't let her life end here. Though she's a top class magus, she's young. She has her entire life to live out. My life is before hers, even though I promised to stay neutral. My life doesn't matter anymore.

"Abbiah." I spoke out, readying my stance.

"Run. It's not worth it. I'll cover your retreat." I say calmly, yet sternly. We had to run. There was no way we could go further. We had to escape. I could fight better against these guys, therefore I'd cover her retreat. I gripped my swords' hilts even harder, glaring at the now prowling shadow wolfs. The two other magi that I don't know prepared themselves. Three on three. Possibly more. This will be a battle of attrition. Which side can hold out first. Abbiah's reinforcement still was in effect, so I should be greater than these.

"But Ryu!" Abbiah implores, though I don't turn my back.

"Just go!" I called back, glaring at the red eyes in the darkness. I think she felt confidence in me, as she quietly ran back up the stairs. We had been down here long enough to adjust to the new lighting, so night combat wasn't difficult. Though the conditions were unfavourable for combat. I nudged the two magi's shoulders.

"We gotta' get to the surface." I said softly, and full of composure. They nodded, and fired off at the wolfs. In an instinct, two pounced at me. I parried their attacks with my swords, channeling prana into them. If I could hold off long enough for them to run off, we could make it to help. I slashed back at them, the swords shattering after that blow. I hastily project two more Vulfs, backing up the stairs. Stair by stair, I skillfully limped up the stairwell, repelling more attacks from the shadow wolfs.

"Haa-..." By the time I reached the surface, Abbiah was gone. The two magi had abandoned me. I was all alone. I can't believe I trusted them. They betrayed my trust, and I honestly hope they died. I parried the fifteenth attack, my seven pair of Vulf breaking. I cursed myself as I began to reach my limit. I decided to run off. Passing through the hallways, I found another door open. Without thinking, I ran inside.

"Fucck!" I say to myself as the pain in my foot suddenly surges up. I hopped up, gripping it. What was I doing, feeling pain at a time like this? I stumbled down the stairs, a long staircase I might add. I finally regained my balance at a small stop, halfway down. I rubbed my head, standing up. Some of my magical energy had regained itself, so I felt a bit better. I blinked hard, turning around. Up at the top of the stairs was a man in a dark Black trench coat, staring down at me with lifeless eyes.

"Hmph." Is all he muttered as he slowly stepped down the staircase. His obnoxious eyes followed me as he became level with me. I was taller than him, but it didn't matter. He looked like a better magus than myself. I averted my gaze, staring at the two figures down near the bottom of the stairs. A loud gunshot rang out, followed by a lighting bolt. I winced, standing my ground. Stay calm. Stay calm. Stay calm. Then, a bright red light flashed in front of them, and my vision went white.
