The master, shrouded in shadow, had to make sure that there were no witnesses to the summoning and came to this place so that no one could sense the force that was about to set free on the world. It backed away as it finished the summoning incantation and the crimson circle glowed maliciously. The thirteen runes that surrounded the ritual in an enormous ring glowed every possible color as they channeled energy into the epicenter. The master’s breath froze as the night’s chilled air became unnaturally frigid. Winds that belonged to a completely land blew down from the north as mass of concentrated prana took shape within the circle. The energy swelled and spread out in random directions like a hungry beast. What the master summoned was no ordinary being. It was not even what most would call a hero. It was a barely containable force of nature that threatened to wreak havoc if finally freed and yet that was exactly what the master wanted for a servant. A single flame ignited within the bulbous mass and spread like a raging wildfire. The flames grew ever greater until they formed into the shape of an impossibly large humanoid. The tall figure’s limbs were too long and thin to be human and looked as if it was made from burning branches while flickers of lightning danced across its body like flowing blood. The incomplete creature reached for the one that would be its master but its burning hand was stopped by an invisible barrier. Taking that as some unspoken sign, the master clasped its hands together as if in prayer and began a second chant. The supernatural winds spun around the circle and gathered the light of the runes. It seemed as if a thousand strands of infinitely bright strings were spun together into a single wondrous cloth. The winds breached the circle and wrapped around the figure. The burning mass did not struggle as its body shrank and became condense. Excess prana seeped away as the servant finally took on flesh. The master could not help but smile at the figure that now returned the smile down from above. A bright red mantle was draped over the servant’s body as the being floated in midair. “Are you the one that summoned me?” asked the servant. The master nodded seriously in acknowledgement. “You do know who I am right yet you still summoned me?” The master nodded again. “Good, then we should get along just fine.” |
