Nestled in a small patch of land stood a small cottage showing signs of recent use. The cottage showed signs of aging and it leaned dangerously to the right threatening to tip over at any second, the windows where lightly coated with filth and grime. The door was left open as if someone left in a hurry. |

Inside was a scene of carnage, with 3 bodies surrounded by blood, with a young man nearby smoking as he viewed his handy work. " It seems like I was a little too late for them." thought Walter as he rolled over a nearby body, and the body itself was twisted into a form that seemed demonic " It seems like they were possessed at some point by Akuma." thought Walter. It was lucky he hand found them before the Akuma could fully mature, or he would have likely have been killed facing 3 possessed people at once. Walter calmly walked over to one of the nearby bookshelves hoping to find a clue why these men were in a mental state that would attract Akuma to them. Skimming threw them he found a few books about Norse mythology, some of which looked very old. One of them had a large magical seal placed on the cover " Hmmm that seems a odd choice for cover art." thought Walter as he placed it on top of the bookcase. As he did the back of his hand began to burn, and he nearly fell to the floor in pain as the markings on his hands began to glow. The book on top of the shelf began flipping threw it's pages as if someone was flipping the pages, and the seal on the cover began to glow as the flipping began to slow. |

As the flashing pages begin to slow their flipping, a brighter light covers the room, gleaming from the book cover. The pages stop their movement, as if emphasizing this one page. A black and white penciled illustration of a young woman standing by a large grave, standing there forever in the moonlight, awaiting someone's return. The pages flicker again, as if to turn, before the light fades and a transcendent being fills the center of the room. Long blonde hair and flashy golden-blue armor, the heroic spirit Sigrun stands in the center of the room. Her eyes survey the area quickly, and she sniffles a bit as if from a nasty smell. Three dead bodies lay on the floor across the room. She was used to death in battle, but it was still odd for dead bodies to be the first thing to see when summoned. Aside from them, a man stands near a bookshelf. She looks at his hand, and the noticeable mark of the command spells are etched on his skin. She is still a bit disoriented from the rough summoning, but she has enough sense to realize that this man must be her Master. She can ask questions later, but first she has to establish their relationship. She bows descending on one knee, looking up at her new Master. "Servant Archer at your command, Master." |

As the pain echoed in his mind Walter slowly began to feel it let off , and he quickly recovered. It was then he noticed a woman in armor was kneeling down calling him master. " It seems I have been dragged into the war for the Grail." thought Walter as he looked the woman over as he reached for the book that seemed to have played part in her summoning he felt felling of love and lust for the woman begin to stir in his heart, but disappeared as his fingers brushed against the pages of the book. The book was still open to page of the woman standing near what he guessed was a grave of some kind, and he couldn't help but feel this woman knelling before him held a strong resemblance to the picture. " Is this by any chance you?" asked Walter as he began walking towards Archer with the book facing her way so she could look upon the pages. He became aware that she seemed uncomfortable ,but rather calm for a woman surrounded by death. He would explain himself if she asked about the dead men, but not until then. He also made a mental note to send a report of what happened here to the Church, and request for someone to clean up this mess. Edited by redrain, 27/10/2010 - 01:19 am.

Sigrun looked at the page for a moment, eyes narrowing slightly to determine what exactly the illustration was depicting. After a few moments, she reluctantly responded, "Yes... That is me from a long time ago." Realizing this, her mind kicked into gear. The book was the catalyst, and luckily for her Master, he had already picked it up and was carrying it with him. "Master, I would advise you to keep that book with you wherever you go. It would be disadvantageous for you to fall under my 'Mystic Face.'" The catalyst served as a connection between her and her Master for the summoning to work, and it prevented her Mystic Face from effecting him. However, that would only last while he held it; if it were burned or lost, he would no longer be immune. The Mystic Face ability could sometimes be a curse when it worked against allies... That ended up a needless worry, as he seemed to catch on quick. "If you would allow, Master, to fill me in on what is currently going on..." The room they were currently in struck her as one thing that she probably needed to know, especially since so far the man did not reveal anything about himself, rather questioning her instead. "And your name, perhaps." |

Walter was glad that he had resisted long enough to reach the book as the alternative didn't sound very appealing from her tone. " Well truthfully I'm doing my job." sated Walter in response to part of Sigrun's question and reached down and picked up on of the bodies to show her what exactly his job was. The first thing she would notice would be the face, it was covered in large boils and the skin was starting to turn crimson, the teeth were replaced by sharp fangs , and on the forehead a single horn had started to form. He held it up long enough for her to get a good look at the thing before he lit his grip slip and the body hit the floor with a sicking splat. " My job is to get rid of Akuma , devils , demons or what ever you prefer to call them. These 3 men were beyond any help I could give so I had to finish them off before they matured and became a bigger threat." Wiping his hand on his pants he threw the butt of his cigarette aside and pulled a pack of them from his pocket. He quickly pulled out a lighter and lit one placing it in his lips as he began to speak again " My name is Walter, and yours?" |

The demon Walter showed her made her cringe slightly, she was never one to associate herself with those creatures. Her Master's job, though, was interesting enough for her. "I see, so the Church has become a lot more powerful in this day?" During her era, Christianity was still in its infant stages down in Southern Europe, while the proud Norse had no reason to convert to what was seen as a weak religion. Indeed, the Norse plundered Christian towns during her time. "But I suppose I can respect your job..." She said, almost questioningly. She didn't know much about these demons so it was hard to form any positive opinion of slaying them. Her eyes followed the strange white object her Master flicked as he pulled out another identical one, lighting it on fire. The smell made the already stale atmosphere worse, but she ignored it for now. "Walter, then. My name is Sigrun." Her name was not widely known in this modern world, especially far out here, so she was compelled to describe herself briefly, but decided against it. "With my help, I hope we can achieve the Grail together..." |

Walter was somewhat surprised as Sigrun quickly put all the facts together, and figured out he was a member of the Church. She seemed to be thinking about her past as she spoke so Walter let her do so as she pleased for now. He noticed her eyes following his cigarette has he took a puff so her guessed she was a curious person, but he noticed she seemed to cringe at the smell of the smoke. As he finished his cigarette he walked over to the window opening it slightly to let in some fresh air into the room before returning back to the bookcase. " Very well Sigrun I already know a little bit about the war, but never thought I would be dragged into it during my mission." said Walter before taking a small breather before continuing . " But I suppose any further pleasantries should wait for a more fitting environment. Don't you agree?" asked Walter as he didn't want to linger here any longer than necessary. |

Ehh? Walter's words confused her. Was he implying that he did not try to summon her, and wasn't even planning on joining the war in the first place? That could be a problem, especially if he had no will to fight for the Holy Grail. But for now she would go along with him, as he hasn't shown any explicit signs of not wanting the Grail. "I agree, Master." Sigrun's hand waved in a fast, blurry motion as a black raven appeared like an afterimage, almost like a magic trick. The raven flew up onto the bookshelf, perching itself on the wood and peering down at its companions. Two more ravens followed in its place, both of them going for the nearby dead bodies, where they began to gouge at the leftover flesh. "I will send my scouts around while I am in spirit form. One will fly around you at all times to better protect against assassins. Is this fine with you?" |

Walter watched with interest as Sigrun began to summon her crows. "Hmm her familiars perhaps?" thought Walter as he watched 2 of them begin to feed off the corpses in the room. Still griping the book in his hand he began to think he should read it if possible to learn a bit more about Sigrun if she wasn't willing to tell him about herself. " That would be fine with me, and I suggest we go into the city so I can make some living arrangements." said Walter as he began to think of where they should stay. He hadn't planned on staying more than a little more than a weak but becoming a master in the War over the Grail had changed things drastically for him. The promise of a wish was very tempting, but from some the little information about the war, he learned that so many people had to die just for the sake of a wish, and it disturbed him to no end. |
