This thread is created to help people with our IRC. Those that know better, feel free to add in or modify this thread. Questions are welcome. There are two programs that I think are really well suited for IRC. First would be using mIRC. mirc can be found at this site If you installed mIRC, here's a look at how to use it (first time users). First off, open the program and it should look something like this. Posted Image press the options button as shown. a window should pop up Posted Image enter your name, email, and nickname. don't worry, you shouldn't be bothered by anything by giving these away. now, click servers to the left of the screen. Posted Image here you should see a lot of folders look for the folder named Rizon and press add then you press ok Posted Image now, that you've connected to rizon, you have to find you channel If a window popped up called mIRC favorites, type in the channel name(FTV-subs for us) and press join. If not, then you can connect to the channel by typing "/join #channel" (swap "#channel with #FTV-subs") from the Rizon window. and you'll be connected and you're done. However, you may wanna put it in favorites if you don't wanna type this in all the time. You can make bookmarks, like you do for internet pages by doing the following: open the bookmarks window (the button with a heart and # in it) you should get a screen like this: Posted Image press the add button and another window should pop up. here you put in the name of the channel, without "#". (so put FTV-subs for us) and press add on the bottom. Posted Image Another window should pop up like this: Posted Image search for rizon as above seen and press ok. you should be back to your previous window and see rizon on the bottom of it as seen in this screenie: Posted Image and press ok. You should see the channel you want to join. click it and press join. Posted Image and voila, welcome aboard. Typing or reading japanese using mIRC First off, you have to make sure you have japanese language tools installed. It's known as japanese IME in microsoft windows. Now for configuring mIRC. open up mIRC and go to fonts Posted Image when the fonts window opens, select a font that supports japanese such as MS mincho or MS gothic. Then change the script to "japanese" and change the UTF-8 to display only. click ok. Posted Image Open up the options window. Posted Image on the left side, select IRC -> messages. make sure that "SJIS/JIS conversion", "Multibyte display" and "Multibyte editbox" are all checked. Click OK. Posted Image Now you should be able to read and write in japanese in the mIRC program. Now, for using pidgin pidgin can be found at this site once you open up pidgin, it should look like this: Posted Image go to accounts -> manage accounts like this: Posted Image a window should pop up. press the button add Posted Image where it says protocol, press the triangle Posted Image and look for irc Posted Image now put in your desired username and irc.rizon.net for the server Posted Image now that you've done this, a window should pop up. This window is the rizon window. type in "/join #channel" (type in "/join #FTV-subs" for us) and a new tab should appear on that window. click that window and you're there. Pidgin also allows you to bookmark channels. press on the buddy list "buddies" -> "add chat" make sure that the account used is the account you want. Type in the name of the channel, without the "#" (FTV-subs) for us. Type in the password of the channel (you don't have to do this for 99.99% of channels, and you're fine to not put it in with us) press "add" and there you go. Once you got the programs working, there's one more step you need to do. when you're in the rizon server, you must type in the following: /msg nickserv register <password> <email> NOTE: you don't have to put in your nickname cause you're registering the nickname you used to get into Rizon. And the purpose of this program is what? Does it work like Teamspeak or something? I just want some clarification before I download it and try to use it. Is this where ppl can actually interact with one another, in real time? I will look at it tomorrow, after you, JinK-san, tell me its purpose, okay?

It's like a shout box for EVERYONE to listen to. If you get a bot, you can host files, that anyone can pick up at anytime. It's free, it's popular, and it's 24/7. Most fansub teams have some sort of IRC so that they can talk to people easily so that you can give your customer service right away. Not to mention, we can have meetings, instead of filling this place with like a hundred posts, we can just chat on the IRC channel. And from the IRC channel, you can have private chats, and group chats that include just a few people for privacy.

Well, I see but I am half asleep and it is 4:08 in the morning, here on the West coast. @-_-@ Zzzzz...I will go back to sleep and dream of episode 11 and how y'all are so kawaii while translating, editing, timing, encoding, and slave driving. Ah...gee! See y'all later. ^^) I will download the program later today, and then sneak on and work the room. I am good at PR. |

I downloaded program but I don't like it. Too bad, we can't just use Teamspeak, much nicer and I can see everyone who's on. Anyway, I will not be using the program and I will just either communicare herein or via pms. Have fun guys, with your chat room.^^) |

You didn't even enter the room from what I can see. That isn't really giving it a chance... |

I did log in....I sent several messages to the chat room and no one responded. I did not use the name ImTakes, but a different username. I was following Jink's instructions, as I was downloading and installing the program...Ah! I bet I will try again in a few days, and will have it down easy...but for now, my brain is malfunctioning. ;) |

Interesting. Everyone was probably away or asleep then I guess. Anyways when there are 3-4 people in there talking it's a lot nicer than if you come in to the room when everyone isn't active. Edited by Langes01x, Jul 12 2009, 01:44 AM.

Something more about IRC First of all, in case you haven't read up there. you have to register a nick after you connected to the server. /msg nickserv register [password] [e-mail] and everytime you go into the server after that, you have to type this in: /msg nickserv identify [password] Commands that you should know /join #[channel] joins the channel /nick [new nickname] changes your nickname / me [action] makes you do an action (there is no space between the "/" and the "me". A space was placed there because of the BBCode) /msg [recipient] [message] starts private chat /whois [nick] gives you information on a person /whowas [nick] gives you information on a person that's not there anymore /help gives you list of other commands /kick [nick] kicks person out of channel (only Operators) /topic [topic] changes the topic of the channel to what you put down /away responds with away message each time something is directed to you. type /away without a message to turn off.
