Fairy Tail Guild RP Current News

Hey everyone, it's me, your Lord and Savior, your Once and Future King, and your new Admin-for-Life Unlimit Sendo. I'm here to drop some turnbuckle-diving elbows and awesome news. There's been some relatively small updates to rulings regarding summon familiars and single summons. Additionally, there's also been a pretty big update in regards to the AP shop which reorganizes it and adds a ton of new stuff. You can find that in the AP Shop section under Item Creation. Check it out.

Interestingly, or perhaps, disturbingly, Mardo took the blunt impatience of Beatrix as being "fired up". The man was most likely more insane than he looked, though it wasn't supposed to be a wonder, seeing the absurd tastes he had. Windle, on the other hand, was scared witless, possibly because he saw Beatrix outburst for what it really was, and as was the case with the servant caste, was likely to be at the brunt of her malice, even though it was Mardo who was responsible for most of the time wasting.

Mardo's bizarre use of words evolved from creating unheard of adjectives to decimating already existing words by modifying them. "Wow! Beryl's now a 'djirromancer'. Good thing I didn't mention anything like 'eldritch hunter'. Wonder what he thinks a 'djirromancer' is, anyway."

Of course, as was her usual reticent self, Caelie did not ask Mardo if he knew what this strange term was. Silently, as before, she walked behind Beryl, with Beatrix in tow, watching the scenery with mild disbelief. With all those mazes, if he was violently insane, Mardo had the perfect horror manor fix up. So far, he seemed to be just the harmless crazy type, though it wasn't easy to tell for anyone on the surface. And that included Beatrix.

The haunted house was not far away from the Mardo estate, prompting Caelie to wonder whether Mardo had ever been concerned that the ghost could have sought him out in his own domicile, unless he knew enough about ghosts to know that some of them never left their haunts... and others did. The haunted property had been locked off with padlock and key, which Mardo promptly destroyed with but a kick. It was up till the point they got to an inner gate, that Mardo's bravado remained; from that point, he stayed put and tried to usher them in.

Beryl waltzed in, but Beatrix restrained her, obviously suspicious of Mardo and his Windle. Her argument had a lot of merit; Caelie would give her that, but there was a reason most exorcists liked to work without the help of outsiders. And suddenly, Beatrix was all sweetness once again. Caelie frowned slightly. Was this a case of Dissociative Identity Disorder, or was Beatrix hdidng something a lot more macabre behind the cheerful exterior Caelie was witnessing now, or was it even otherwise? While she would have liked to know more about this person who was more enigmatic than her "enigmatic associates", the mission still waited. The kind of stuff Caelie felt more at home doing, than socializing in certain aspects of human company.

"Honestly, I have no qualms with whether we have... insurance or not; you'd be surprised how much an outsider can get so much in the way and muddle the whole exorcism up. Anyway, you may do what you please. I am almost completely certain that we're not dealing with a 'ghost'. If it was anything not of this plane, I should have been aware of its presence by now."

Caelie looked further into the dilapidated compound, as she waited for Beatrix, Beryl, Mardo and Windle to come to a conclusion that would satisfy them all. Or, at least, satisfy some of them.

"Oh dear," Beryl thought quietly, as she felt the hand on her collar. She wasn't specifically a fan of drama, and she had to admit she didn't feel particularly comfortable with the behavior of the young woman known as Beatrix so far. And yet, this called for professional tact. Because if, somehow, the clients were not satisfied with the results of this mission, it could cast a negative light on her guild. Beryl didn't know, nor was she overtly concerned about Beatrix's devotion guild-wise, but she wasn't willing to joke with hers.

While the Seveni found sense in the Ashur heiress' words, they only served to cement the fact that she was rather unhinged. Wait, was all this because she was getting hungry? The Seveni sighed and shook her head mildly as her collar was released. If Beatrix proved dangerous to Windle, Beryl would have to step up and protect the fat, short fellow. Perhaps it was due to her persona, but the Seveni already felt responsible for the success of the mission, regardless of what the other participants of this exercise felt. Caelie mentioned her disbelief in the likely chance of encountering a ghost. Making a mental note to question her friend later on how she could determine the presence or absence of ghosts or perhaps other supernatural phenomena, the Seveni cracked her fingers.

"We may as well proceed with Windle, if will make our..." here she cast a sidelong glance at Beatrix, "associate feel any... safer, though I hardly suspect there'll be need for that much caution. In any case, Mardo-san, you have my word that till the end of the uh, exorcism, your butler will be safe, if he doesn't wander too far off," the Seveni intoned calmly, though there was an edge in her voice. Wanton killing would not be tolerated, if she had her say, though a part of her guiltily longed for a battle.

Mardo, however, had other plans. "I shall have none of this!" he boomed. "If you believe foul play must be involved, I myself shall come along. I will not tolerate Windle's damaging by some cuributrific ghost." Beryl refrained from giving the man an exasperated look. Wasn't Beatrix the apparent threat to his servant here? And he was still worried about some likely imaginary ghost. "Besides, if you were hungry, why didn't you say so?" the huge baron asked with a reproving tone. "While I myself have been, on more than one occasion, interested in eating my butler alive, the fare seems messy and uncouth, in all. Windle, get us something to eat. We shall march on."

The noble's resolve seemed to falter slightly at the last sentence, but he put on a resolute air and strode into the compound. Windle was already running at his master's command. Beryl turned to look at Beatrix once again. "Satisfied, honey?" she asked, just before a strange glow began emanating from beyond one of the broken walls of the building before them. A strange smell wafted to the group, as a voice, hollow and eerie, boomed, "Back! Go back!!" Beryl frowned, as she contemplated the smell. Much of it was unknown to her, but she could detect a slight whiff of spirit, or a variant of it. Someone was burning something here.

"Amateur..." the Seveni muttered as she began approaching the glow.

It would seem that eventually, the impasse had been breached, and everyone had reached a satisfactory compromise, though Mardo himself insisted on going. It was actually mildly disturbing to Caelie that the man of the manor had not even noticed that the threat against the butler's life was more of Beatrix than some wannabe ghost. Yes, she could safely conclude that the man was quite mad.

That aside, she walked at the back of the party into this area, hardly expecting to see anything paranormal in this place. There was suddenly a soft glow, the kind that was emitted by ghosts in all those video lachrymas that many people were so much rabid about. She didn't need to be told that there were quite a number of chemicals that could be mixed or used to produce such an effect, and not long after, the smell of burning alcohol wafted to her nose. Caelie laughed, more like the kind of giggle someone gives when she's quite tickled.

"This is a very interesting case. I believe our ghost clearly does not want any intruders in its domain. You'd best step back, sir."

So saying, she stepped forward, so that she was right by Beryl, but the truth was, it was more of seeking out a gossip partner as intelligent of herself and less of protecting him from any specters. With a grin, she whispered to Beryl: "Sure you've already deduced by now there is nothing supernatural about this event. Still, let's play along. Mr. Mardo might not believe us if we told him the truth. And you know what they say: 'a happy customer makes for a happy pocket.' Haha."

OOC: For the record, we're continuing without Kanna. Sad times... T_T

Mardo played the man as best as he could, although there was an inkling of relied in his voice when Caelie told him to step back. "Step back? Why would I want to do that?" he asked, trying nonetheless to display as much courage as he could muster. "I believe it would be most irresponsible of me to let you all do all the work, seeing as this property is of more interest to me than it is to you. Buuuut, since you and the jirugomancer are quite experienced in such preternatural quabunogies, I shall heed your expert advice."

It seemed the unstable Beatrix had fallen back as well; Beryl didn't know whether to be thankful or wary that she had done so. On the one hand, the mission would go on without extra unexpected situations resulting from Beatrix's erratic behavior, and yet on the flip side, if the erratic young woman decided to sneak off to have a jam and Windle sandwich, Beryl was not sure that she nor Caelie would be able to stop such an event from happening. That simply meant that the sooner this matter was concluded, thee better. For everyone.

As Caelie walked abreast of her guildmate and offered a suggestion, Beryl allowed the left side of her mouth to twitch upwards in a slight smile. "Quite true, indeed. I suppose it's our job to make sure everyone is happy in the long run." She turned to look at Mardo, who was still following the pair, although at a relatively notable distance from them, with a look of uncertainty on his face, as he paused to stare at a stout stick on the ground, probably appraising it as a weapon in case the ghost attacked.

"I would suggest, Mr. Mardo sir, that you stay with our associate, as we do not wish that you encounter the ghost. There are quite a lot of insalubrious outcomes for one who is not prepared to handle a shade from the grave, one of the mildest being early balding, and ranging over the span of permanent injuries to seven years of bad luck." The Poinsettia noble froze immediately, staring at the girls with obvious shock. "Don't worry," Beryl said to him, "as long as you don't encounter the ghost, you will be fine." He nodded enthusiastically and held his position.

"Now on to the business at hand...."

Beryl saw the wisdom in supporting her plan, and Mardo was advised to wait behind. That would solve two problems: firstly, it would allow the two mages to continue their work without any outside interference, and secondly, it would allow Mardo to keep an eye on Beatrix, who seemed to have some very evil plans for the portly Windle, whom she had not shed her dislike for, ever since his imperious mien towards them at the gate.

Caelie turned to give Mardo a reassuring smile. "This 'quabunogy' should hardly take time. We'll be back shortly."

As she walked on towards the source of the problem, she said to Beryl, her voice low, so as not to let this 'ghost' in on their plans: "Alright, then. I would suggest we outsmart this false specter somehow, make the whole 'game' fun for us. Do you have anything in mind?"

A beautiful idea was forming in her mind. Perhaps they could spook out the spook with some careful planning of their own. However, she would first hear what Beryl thought about it all, then things would become interesting from then on out.

Beryl cast a sidelong glance at her partner, who had just asked whether she had a plan for taking care of the phony specter who had chosen to make this piece of property its current habitation. Frankly, she had not. Between the weird behaviors being exhibited around her, tempers rising and switches from polite and courteous behavior to bloodthirsty and malignant, the Seveni had had a more direct, less flowery approach in mind.

"Hmm," she replied pensively, turning from Caelie to stare at the wall beyond which hid the 'ghost', though she took care to be just as quiet as her colleague, "I must confess I had no such thing in mind."

The 'ghost' made a number of odd-sounding noises, which probably sounded like they belonged more in an exotic farm than an eldritch scenario. Beryl looked at Caelie and shook her head in mild disappointment. "I was thinking about walking over and booting the culprit's seat so bad they would fear any word beginning with the letter 'g' for as long as they lived."

In any case, there wasn't so much to be done today, and perhaps Caelie's idea would result in the most customer satisfaction, as well as the two Nine Lives mages having fun. "Well, Cae, let's hear what you have in mind. I could do with quite some fun, at present, with all this talk of eating butlers and incomprehensible words."

Caelie stifled a laugh and shook her head when the 'ghost' made some noises that she really couldn't relate to any known creature, most likely in an attempt to scare them off. The antics of this person were really laughable, and Mardo ought to have realized he was being scammed, if he wasn't that much unhinged. Beryl hadn't really thought about spooking the spook, and she asked for Caelie's plan.

"Okay, here's what I think. Why don't we actually make this spook think the house is really haunted?" Caelie suggested, still keeping her voice low to prevent being overheard. "It's going to really hilarious when our ghost comes fleeing and screaming, 'there's a ghost!' I think we can create the atmosphere using our magic. You manipulate earth, yes? I'm sure you come come up with a little tremor or something. Wraiths are known to shake walls and windows sometimes. I can use wind to create the effect of closing doors, moving objects and so on. But first, we need to get a look at our friend while remaining undetected."

From the way the ghost's voice had carried, it was facing their direction. It wouldn't be hard for her to sneak around and monitor it through a tiny gap in hedges or through a crack in the wall. But it was best to wait and hear Beryl's take on the matter, before setting the plan in motion.

Unlike her white-haired friend, Beryl was not at all amused by the less-than-impressive attempts of the false specter to chase the 'exorcists' away from the area. Yet she was glad to see Caelie was tickled, for a more serious atmosphere would probably result in Beryl's initial plan to take out the ghost actor: charge, scrag and bag.

The idea of spooking the ghost sounded interesting. The Seveni raised an eyebrow as her companion began talking of her plan to spook the ghost. "Color me enthusiastic," the Seveni replied, a smile brightening her features. "And here I was, thinking there'd be little fun."

Caelie was quite right in suggesting that they try to get a sneak peek at their ghost. The Seveni looked around. There were quite a lot of available options to getting to a vantage location from which to spy on their quarry. Broken ceiling overhanging where the 'ghost' likely was, as well as broken walls and torn hedges to hide behind and peep through holes, were the most obvious ways to go about their plan.

Before taking care to observe their resident ghost, Beryl had to find out something. It would be rather sad if, while trying to observe their ghost, something happened, and the ghost became aware of their plans. The Seveni was rather confident of her furtive skills, but she didn't know whether Caelie's sneaking skills were honed, average, or leaving much to be desired.

"How good are you at sneaking, Caelie?" the Earth mage asked. "I was thinking, why doesn't one of us stay here and keep making sounds so that it would seem like we were still in the same position, while the other went to check up on our ghost? I think, without trying to sound too proud, that my sneaking skills are quite decent, but if you're just as confident of your ninja walking, I'll let you check out who our ghost is."

She kicked a stone, so that the 'ghost' would know they were still there. "So, who goes sneaking? Myself, or you?"

"I want to believe that my sneaking isn't shabby at all, either. It's like a prerequisite for my kind of work. Still, I suppose you could go check on our ghost. I've just the thing to keep him distracted and focused on my presence." While Caelie was sure she could creep up on the 'ghost' without revealing herself, she already had a plan to keep them busy.

She walked to a clearing neither far from where the ghost was hiding out, nor from their current location, and gave Beryl a thumbs-up sign to show she was ready. Once Beryl was set to sneak, Caelie began to hum. It started off as gentle, but she began to slowly increase the volume of her voice until it was loud enough to conceal more quieter sounds, including footfalls. She was sure that the 'ghost' would be careful not to try to see what she was doing, so that they wouldn't be noticed and identified as a normal human being. She began chanting in Seveni; the language belonged to a group of people who had dabbled with the arcane, and the language sometimes had this... bewitching ring to it.

"Elda helem durum bat! Elda helem durum bat!"

The chant did not really have any power to banish ghosts; rather, it was a portion of a Seveni rhyme that she had extracted and slightly altered to suit her purpose. That ought to give the ghost the notion that she was going through some exorcism ritual, and encourage them to play along. After all, when a hoaxer came in contact with another hoaxer as an opponent, it became a test of wit. The 'ghost' would play along and try to scare her off, but they might end up having their own hands full in the long run.

Caelie seemed quite confident in her sneaking prowess, although she was more interested in carrying out a plan of her own, which meant Beryl would be the one to attempt to check up on exactly what sort of ghost the pair of Nine Lives mages were dealing with. The Seveni was actually quite comfortable with that arrangement; it was Caelie's plan, after all, and both girls knew Beryl had initially been for chasing the ghost out with a stick. If only all exorcisms worked that way.

While Beryl's Iceborn partner walked over to a clearing to begin her part of the 'exorcism', Beryl looked around at her environment to pick out the most optimum means of sneaking up on the false ghost. Being one who had spent some decent time of her life prowling around ruins and dilapidated structures, the Seveni quickly made out a path that would get her onto the first floor of the building, whose ceiling, while looking rather dangerous, had some sturdy portions that the Seveni could easily perch on to spy on the ghost from above.

At the thumbs-up sign from her colleague, the Seveni sprinted noiselessly to a broken pillar and made her way up it, catlike, using ivy stems and cracks as hand- and footholds. Eventually, she reached the summit of the pillar from which she jumped without hesitation, landing with nary a sound on the first floor of the building, as the wall which should have shielded that portion of the house from the elements was missing. Carefully, she crept across the cracked floor, moving furtively until she reached a place where green light seeped through the cracks in the floor.

Crouching and putting her eye to the crack, she was able to see that, alongside an assortment of pots, books, chemical vials and a scientific burner,, there wasn't one, but three 'ghosts'. Two of them were human, dressed in makeshift ghost costumes, most likely for shadow effects. The third was an animal, of the sort which Mardo had been sculpting bizarre caricatures of in his garden. Beryl had never seen one before, but she knew what it was. It was called an alpaca in its native regions, one of which was not Fiore. Well, now wasn't the time to wonder what an exotic creature was doing there. It was time to report.

Making her way with ease, though remaining silent, the Seveni made her return journey and returned to where Caelie was repeating the adapted Seveni rhyme. She felt amused, because she was sure none of the 'ghosts' were able to speak Seveni, since its people weren't known to do much traveling. Drawing close and whispering in her friend's ear, she said, "we got three ghosts, Cae. Two human ghosts dressed for the occasion, and an alpaca." Caelie was a bookworm; Beryl was sure the Iceborn girl would know what an alpaca was.
