Fairy Tail Guild RP Current News

Hey everyone, it's me, your Lord and Savior, your Once and Future King, and your new Admin-for-Life Unlimit Sendo. I'm here to drop some turnbuckle-diving elbows and awesome news. There's been some relatively small updates to rulings regarding summon familiars and single summons. Additionally, there's also been a pretty big update in regards to the AP shop which reorganizes it and adds a ton of new stuff. You can find that in the AP Shop section under Item Creation. Check it out.

The monster arachnid made a strange screeching sound as it lost one of its legs to the swing of the snow-haired mage's weapon. Thrashing wildly with the remaining limbs it had, the monster attempted to hit its attackers, although that would be hardly effective, as they were either out of range of its dangerous appendages, or it was yet to regenerate what had been cut off. Its unsevered pincer snapped vainly at Uther and Livinia, but they were out of range.

Suddenly, the creature's tail lashed out, aiming for Caelie. No one could say just what sort of toxin exactly was in the scorpion's stinger, but it was very likely to be something quite nasty. The creature brought its stinger downwards, in an arcing fashion, at the white-haired mage, hoping to cover more range with the dangerous appendage, so that Caelie would have less room to dodge the attack. It kept snapping at the knights with its pincer, but they quickly realized that it was merely doing so to keep them away from getting to assist Caelie.

Meanwhile, Beryl and Nadine continued their assault on the monster snake. It reared back and thrust its head forward at the two women, mouth wide open with fangs bared as it hissed loudly. Mage and knight went in different directions, giving the snake nothing to attack. Determining that Nadine was the more dangerous of the two, thanks to her sword which was capable of firing energy blasts, the snake twisted and resumed its charge, directed at her. Beryl responded by drawing both her shortswords, and burying them in the back of the monster's head.

Irate and in pain, the snake thrashed once more, with Beryl hanging on for dear life, while Nadine slashed away at it, hoping to cause some irreparable damage before the beast regenerated. Eventually, the monster managed to shake the Seveni off, sending her flying through the air to land rather painfully on the stone stairs. It lunged at her, just as Nadine stepped in the way, releasing another blast into the mouth of the snake, which exploded in its throat, sending its pieces everywhere and taking its head clean off.

The rest of the snake slowly dissolved, the black liquid giving off a rather fetid smell as it dribbled off the stairs into the depths below. Beryl rose to her feet and smiled gratefully at the knight. "Thanks a million for that. Now let's go put a similar end to the other pest."

Caelie smiled to herself as the scorpion performed an anticipated move. Since she had made some space for herself by slicing off one leg, and its pincer was incapable of getting to her, it used its stinger. The dangerous appendage was thrust in a pattern designed to reduce her options to evade it. However, a stinger was more like a spear and less like a sword. That limited its attacks to thrusts and jabs, as opposed to slashes and swings, which could cover more area. Also, judging from the position of the stinger, the only option to the scorpion was to bring it downwards.

Caelie simply danced around the tail as it came in, her hands raised above her head, sword hoisted to strike. Following with a fluid spin and a downward slash, before the scorpion could withdraw its weapon, Caelie smote the monster's tail with the edge of the Songblade. The sharp sword cleaved cleanly through the black tissue and struck the obsidian floor, severing the stinger from the tail of the beast. That would definitely invoke the monster's ire, and it would seek to reposition itself to salvage the situation, while it waited for its injuries to regenerate. Speaking of regeneration, Caelie noticed that the severed limbs did not seem to recover as quickly as the damage done to its face that first time, by Uther. Well, this was the best time to push forward their attack, while the monster was trying to recover.

"Now!" Caelie yelled, as with all her might, she thrust the blade into the side of the scorpion, before it could move itself away from her. The cry she gave ought to spur Uther, or even Livinia into action, so that they would press forward with an attack of their own. In that way, the scorpion would find itself having to react to attacks from at least two different arenas, and if one was not sufficient to kill it, perhaps both or more would be.

For a creature that had the ability to restore some parts, or possibly, all of its body, a simple stab would not hurt it so much, and even if she pushed in her sword deeply, it might not managed to get to the glowing organ she had seen previously. The thrust of her blade was an opening to another attack. The scorpion, for its part, wasn't going to just sit there and have her hack into its body. It would instinctively move in the direction away from her thrust, with the intention of either having her pull out the sword, or disarm her and take the sword along with it. Caelie disregarded the fact that holding onto the handle of the sword meant she could be dragged along the ground; it was better than being dangled over a yawning abyss. And before the scorpion got any ideas to start climbing all over the place, she gripped the Songblade in both hands, and focused.

A ripple of concussive energy, capable of shattering stone, emanated violently from the blade of her eternium sword, which was currently stuck in the side of the monster. The size and magnitude of the shockwave ought to be sufficient to damage the organ, if not shred it apart from the inside out. Of course, that would eventually dislodge the blade from the beast, and Caelie used that opportunity to get herself back into a defensive position and assess the effect of the actions of the knights and herself against the arachnid.

With the scorpion being assailed relentlessly by Caelie and the other knights, the Seveni mage and her companion realized they had little to do in the way of assistance, although they moved as quickly as possible to regroup with their other fellow adventurers. Livinia summoned a shield, from which emanated a drill-like projection which skewered through the scorpion's cephalothorax, just as the Iceborn mage ripped into it with her sword's ability. The scorpion made a strange, high-pitched whining sound as its insides were obliterated, reducing the monster to the same stinking goo that the snake had dissolved into.

With such a hurdle overcome, there was nothing else to do than advance to collect the Sigil of Dreams. But it was at this point that everything suddenly went awfully wrong. For as the group advanced, suddenly, they would all begin to feel a strange sense of foreboding. "Suddenly, I feel like going any further might be the worst mistake of my life," the Seveni said, readying her weapon. Even in the poor light of the area, it was obvious that the old Balthazar had blanched. "It is our nemesis!" he exclaimed. "Avaggdu has arrived!! Run as fast as you can!!!"

So saying, the old man teleported and reappeared high up on the stairs of the white pillar, and began hobbling the rest of the way. Unnerved, Livinia began charging up the stairs after Balthazar, while Uther seemed undecided between heeding the old man's warning, or standing his ground to face the horror. Beryl, for her part, was excited, and frightened. Excited, perhaps because she had never met Avaggdu in person before. Who knew, maybe if they could kill it here and now, the quest would not need to continue. Nadine seemed to be of the same opinion. "I'm not running away from some unholy abomination," she yelled, brandishing her sword, whose runes were beginning to glow faintly. "I say we kill it now, and be done with all this madness."

Nadine's sword caught fire, as she lifted it, and illuminated the area for a moment, just enough for everyone to see a huge cloud of tentacle-wreathed darkness rush towards the intrepid knight. She aimed her weapon at it and released a concentrated blast of flame, which slammed into the creature, throwing it backwards and down into the chasm below. All was silent as Nadine's glowing weapon dulled. "Well, that wasn't so hard--" the black-haired woman began, but was unable to finish, as a midnight-black tentacle suddenly shot out of the darkness below and speared her in the torso. Beryl charged towards the appendage to cut it, when another snaked out of the darkness and constricted round the Seveni's neck, causing her to drop her swords in alarm. Then the black mass of shadows launched out of the deep, affixing itself to the ceiling high above, with the two women dangling from two tentacles emanating from its ebon mass.

Beryl summoned Surya to her hand and began hacking at the tentacle which choked her, but the monster to which it belonged paid her no heed, as it drew the dying knight close to its mass. For a moment, Nadine's face seemed to glow with a golden light, then the light migrated from her face and into the shadowy mass, where it was extinguished by what seemed to be a pale, dull flame burning within the mass. Curiously, upon attempting to focus on the flame, all an observer would perceive would be blackness, nay if there was such a thing darker than blackness, that would be it.

With a hauntingly eerie sound that resembled macabre laughter, the otherworldly horror dragged the struggling form of Beryl and Nadine's now limp body as it moved across the ceiling, disappearing into an open space which seemed to be present above the white pillar on whose winding steps the adventurers currently stood.

Her tactic went swimmingly. As her Songblade blasted its way through the scorpion's insides, Livinia created some sort of spike on her magic shield, which skewered the creature from the front. It actually mattered not whose attack hit the organ, though it was likely that both did; the scorpion quickly met its demise. Caelie was fortunate that her weapon's shockwave ability could radiate outwards in all directions, with herself being at the center of the wave. This disallowed any of the scorpion's reeking innards from alighting on her and giving her a smell she would not appreciate. Flicking the sword with a silver sheen once to get rid of the creature's blood, Caelie walked back towards the knights.

Her progress was halted, however, by a very ominous feeling. It was something like that gut feeling when you know something bad is about to happen, but it was more acute. She stopped and glanced around, noticing that everyone else felt it too, and then Balthazar announced the arrival of the Avaggdu she had been told was the reason for this mission. Balthazar's urgency set her off running, but she slowed down when she noticed that Beryl and Nadine had turned to face the monster. In her opinion, that was a very unsafe plan. If Balthazar, who knew the most about this place and its lore, was that terrified of Avaggdu, then perhaps there was a very good reason he had not asked them to draw their swords. Still, she could not abandon her friends, so she started making her way down the stairs of the white pillar.

The battle did not last long. Nadine blasted the solid looking darkness, which seemed to fall away. But just as quickly as it had ended, the horror returned, seemingly unfazed by the attack. In no time, it made short work of the two women, and took them along, escaping into the ceiling above the spire. She didn't know what the horror had done to Nadine, but it looked like it had just sucked out her soul. That was probably the end of the knight, but Caelie did not want to accept such a conclusion without verifying it. Besides, Beryl was still alive. If she could save her friend, she damned well would. With hardly any sound, save her slightly labored breathing, Caelie rushed back up the stairs, oblivious to Balthazar and the others, intent on getting to the space Avaggdu had escaped through.

The white pillar seemed to be of longer proportions than it appeared, rising upward through the hole in the ceiling of the large subterranean space and reaching about twenty meters high through a strange crystalline shaft that suddenly opened out into another space, difficult to tell, due to the prevailing darkness. The ground, though, seemed to be covered with broken tiles and ceramics, evident from when the adventurers stepped on the ground of this new level. The sense of fear was strong again, here. But what was most unnerving was that upon entry into this new level, a ghastly image of some spider horror would suddenly intrude on their perception. It could not be that they saw it, for the area was pitch black. Livinia began to chant softly, as she focused her magic on Uther's blade, the weapon starting to emit a faint light which grew stronger by the moment....

For a while, Beryl was unconscious, floating in a sea of black nothingness. She remembered; she had been attacked by the monstrosity that Balthazar had called Avaggdu. Nadine seemed to be in trouble. But then, she remembered nothing else. She opened her eyes, but there was still blackness. The Seveni tried to move, but realized that her hands were constrained above her head by some rather tough, rubbery material. She was suspended in the air, it seemed, hanging by her hands, though how high she was from the ground, she could not determine. She could also sense that Avaggdu was very close; the image of some spider demon kept recurring in her mind. The Seveni activated her Conflict of the Mind, and immediately learned a number of disturbing things, the least being that she was about 4 meters above any solid surface.

First of all, she was hanging from what seemed to be a tree. It seemed dead, no leaves, but that was to be expected. A normal tree would need light to survive. With further concentration, Beryl realized that there were bodies, suspended, like herself, from the branches of the tree. Most hung from their necks, others from their limbs or torsos. None was moving. Above her, in the branches of the unnatural tree, was the giant spider she had sensed not so long ago. It laughed, or seemed to laugh, a strange, rasping, unnerving sound.

"You are awake, my dear," it said, climbing down the tree to get close to her level. "It's so heartwarming to see what a beauty you've matured into. You, I believe, know who I am."

"Certainly not a friend," Beryl retorted, trying not to sound scared.

"I like how your life has turned out so far," the creature stated, extending a tentacle to stroke the side of her face. "But things have been moving too slowly with you. In any case, everything I have planned is falling into place; after all, you are here, where I want you. Well, since your friends will be arriving soon, let's have a bit of fun till they arrive...."

Eventually, Uther's weapon began releasing a strong, steady white light, revealing a most macabre sight to the adventurers. An altar stood, upon which was resting an ornate, ceremonial-looking dagger. Behind the altar was a gigantic tree, black in color and leafless, apparently dead. From its branches hung apparently lifeless bodies, and beside one of the pendant forms, hanging from a thick thread of black webbing, was a monstrous spider, like what they had seen in their minds, mostly veiled in clouds of living darkness. They would soon notice that the hanging form closest to the spider was Beryl. She seemed motionless, her body bruised and clothes torn. There was a strange cut in her side; the skin around it had become unnaturally pale, and visible blue veins showed around the gash.

Not so far off hung Nadine, by her neck. Her eyes were open and lifeless.

The white pillar was high, but Caelie paid that fact little heed, her desire to get to her friend before it was too late her major driving force. She ran, clambered, made her way up the spire, comforted by the fact that she could hear the footsteps of the knights behind her. She was not alone. While she would have still gone after Beryl without a second thought if she was the only one there, it always helps to bolster one's morale when one knew that there were others to watch their backs.

She was not prepared for what was in the chamber above the white spire she had just ascended. As she came out into a larger space, like an upstairs room of sorts, she froze. It was like she had been transported into one of the darkest times of her life, one she had spent mostly unconscious. There was darkness everywhere, only that unlike before, there was no single eye, staring at her. She had actually expected it, but as she cast about her, she sensed that she was not alone. There was something else out here, and although it felt a lot like the Eye in the Dark, it was distinctly different. If felt like fear. The Eye felt like something somewhat different, though she was yet to place a finger on it. And of course, what she sensed was not an Eye. It was an arachnoid abomination.

The only way she knew that she had not been pulled back into her lightless dreams was the warm sensation against her chest. The Heart of the Sun was almost hot, signifying the malice that this creature, Avaggdu, held towards her. It was fortunate that the creature seemed intent on watching her, because she would be fighting blind in this pitch black darkness. Her hands gripped the hilt of the Songblade even tighter, as she waited in anticipation.

Then, a light. Livinia powered up Uther's sword, causing it to be a light that brightened up the entire room. And what Caelie saw was not pretty. The most horrifying sight to her was that of Beryl and Nadine, hanging from the tarry black webs, not to mention the other corpses that served to add a macabre garnishing to an already hideous backdrop. Beryl was injured, but she might still be alive. Nadine, on the other hand, looked very dead. If whatever Avaggdu did to her before taking her away had not killed her, hanging by her neck was sure to do the deed. Instinct demanded that Caelie charge in attacking, now that their enemy was in plain sight, but that was not her way. Planning was key to victory. With a single motion, she drove the Songblade into the ground, so that it stuck there, like a mythological sword out of legend.

"Livinia, please enchant my blade with your light. In fact, if possible, fill this whole chamber with light. I don't want any place for that demon to hide about. Our major objective is to get Beryl and Nadine down from that thing, so we need some good distractions. If they're both alive, maybe my sword can heal them somewhat. Uther, do what you do best."

As she stepped forward, she held out her arms at her sides, hands open. In a dull blink of light, two beautifully crafted daggers, identical in all except color, appeared in her hands. As she came closer, her steps became faster, until she was running towards the spider. One after the other, she threw both daggers at the monstrosity, which arced in graceful trajectory towards it, though one of the daggers would curve off towards Nadine, with the intention of cutting the web that held her. Even if she was dead, at least her body would be spared the indignity of hanging there like a gruesome decoration.

One thing else important in her plan: as Caelie approached, she picked up on of the dislodged tiles. It would certainly come in handy.

Avaggdu did not bother to attempt to stop the blade thrown to cut Nadine free, although it slipped down its own web, allowing the blade flung at it to slice the web by which it hung. Tiles flew as the monster flipped and landed quite nimbly on the ground. "I have no arguments with you, snow-haired child," the abomination said, its voice a chilling rasp, as Livinia set to work chanting a spell on Caelie's blade. "However, the piece of meat you know as Beryl is my property, and those foolish knights are outdated relics of a bygone era. But as all humans are, your presumption will be your doom. Come, little fly, come into my pretty web...."

As the light intensified, the spider receded into the withdrawing shadows, laughing mockingly as it did. In time, the room was well-lit, revealing everything in detail. Avaggdu was gone; a number of large holes in the ground, similar to the one the group came out of, gave hints to how the eldritch horror might have left. Balthazar teleported to reappear at Nadine's side, as Uther used a blast from his sword to cut Beryl down from where she hung. As the Seveni fell, the knight reached out and caught her, the Seveni moaning in pain as he did so.

Livinia stopped her chanting, running up to the old man as he held the unmoving form of Nadine. "Nadine! How is she?" the purple-haired knight asked, her voice tremulous with trepidation. "Dead," Beryl groaned, opening her eyes. "And yet, somehow, you are alive," Balthazar said, his voice quiet and icy, as Livinia sobbed beside him. "How delightful, you must suppose," the Geomancer replied evenly, sitting up, before she was racked by an episode of violent coughing.

"I feel your pain, Balthazar," the Seveni said, looking down at her hand, at blood and some black substance she had coughed out, "but looking for someone to blame is totally counterproductive, seeing as I'm not... whole. At least, not any more." She rose to her feet and immediately grabbed her wounded side, gritting her face in pain as she did so. "What we're going to do is get this Sigil of Dreams to the Temple of Dreams, and teach that black cloudy bastard that it was a mistake to have killed Nadine. I swear that the only thing that will keep me from finishing this mission is my death."

There was a cold ring in Beryl's voice that indicated her level of seriousness, as opposed to her usual phlegmatic, happy-go-lucky attitude. Staggering to the Sigil, she picked it from the altar on which it sat and observed it. "For some reason, Avaggdu cannot touch the dagger, which is why it has been left alone all this while. I hope this information will prove useful in the long run. We should leave."

As the room became brighter, and the creature known as Avaggdu spoke to Caelie in its loathsome voice, her daggers completed a graceful arc and returned to her hands. She made no attempt to reply the monster, watching with mixed feelings as it scuttled away into a hole like the vermin it was. Part of her wanted it to fight, so that there would be a chance of destroying it there and then, but a more prudent part also realized that it was wise to see to her allies that had been kidnapped by Avaggdu, and that would be impossible during battle.

Nadine was proclaimed dead, and Caelie hung her head in sorrow. Life was harsh like that; she knew that such adventures were bound to show up with some mortal threats, but anytime someone died, she couldn't help but feel that brooding sense of loss. She wasn't the type of person to just shrug off such a thing. Life was very important, because when it was gone, it could never return.

Understandably, Balthazar was bitter, but logically, Caelie was not surprised that Beryl was alive and Nadine was dead. From the things Avaggdu had mentioned, it wanted Beryl for a purpose. The rest of them were expendable, and that meant kill-able. It had not left Beryl unscathed, however. The injury to her side definitely had something to do with the black stuff she coughed up, and it didn't look healthy. Deep down, Caelie began to fear for her friend's well being, but she knew that panicking would yield negative results. She had to keep a level head.

"I understand we're all angry and grieving, and we all want a piece of that thing, but we would be doing it a favor if we just ran in screaming without a good course of action," Caelie said, after Beryl was done talking. "First, Beryl, you'd best heal yourself somehow. You wouldn't want to be a burden to us and yourself, struggling to move with your injuries. My sword can help out, if you have no other means of doing so." So saying, she tapped the Songblade's hilt, and the blade began glowing a comforting silver hue, apart from the light enchantments Livinia had cast on it.

"Also, we need a good game plan. Avaggdu escaped, and he expected us to follow. Any hunter would lay a trap, or position themselves in a terrain suitable for their type of combat. Avaggdu is expecting us, and he has the advantage of choosing where he wants to fight... unless we're not following him, which is unlikely..." she trailed off and was silent for a bit, before turning sharply to look at Livinia.

"We heal up and plan before we move, and our plan has got to have a lot of light, literally."

Beryl shook her head in response to Caelie's offer to heal her. "While I'm extremely grateful for your offer to heal me, " she stated, as she put the dagger in her backpack with a bit of difficulty, thanks to her injuries, "unless your blade's healing ability can dispel curses or the likes, I'm not gonna bother with trying to heal up. I have a healing spell, and it is unable to get rid of the... infection I've been given."

As the knights began deliberating on how to fight Avaggdu, who was no doubt lurking somewhere in wait, Balthazar spoke up. "Allow me to make a suggestion," he intoned, leaning on his staff. "While it may not sound very valiant, the only reason Avaggdu seems so invincible is because of Gruuthug, his master. I suggest we flee for now, and continue with the plan, rather than risk further life and limb to attack the fiend."

Uther seemed unwilling to agree, Livinia appeared undecided, but Beryl nodded. "I agree with Balthazar," she stated. "I'm currently a liability, and Avaggdu knows it, something he will use against us all if we were to engage him now. Since he expects us to attack, if we escape now, he will be most likely unable to give pursuit, seeing that he is unprepared for that. And I will be able to research more on my injury, as well as receive treatment in a place with better facilities. Besides, we're not at full strength, none of us."

The fatigue was present on Uther's face, though he did his best to hide it. Livinia looked even more weary as she seemed to see reason with Balthazar's suggestion as well. "So it's settled then, I hope," the old man said as he took Beryl's pendant, twirled his staff and struck it on the pendant which he had laid on the ground, creating a portal. "While I can create a portal anywhere, its destination must always be more set, which is why I could not get us to appear very close to the Spire. But no worries, we shall find ourselves in the city of Dandelion when we emerge."

"Let's be off then," Beryl said, stepping into the interdimensional doorway. As the knights followed, plans were running through everyone's mind, concerning the monster they'd just met, and how, hopefully, next time, they might defeat it. Beryl, of them all, had the most mental cogitations. But she was sure that next time, she would not flee when she met Avaggdu.

Caelie was not very satisfied with Beryl's declining of her offer, but the blonde mage had a good point. There was likely nothing Songblade's healing technique could do, if Beryl's own healing had been unable to fix the injury. She let out a sigh and shrugged, then walked over to the sword still enchanted by Livinia's light. Grasping it by the handle, she pulled it out of its resting place and returned it to her storage dimension. It looked like there was no more fighting to do at the moment.

Balthazar revealed that Avaggdu had a master, and Caelie felt a sense of foreboding on hearing that. Such information could have been mentioned earlier, but there was no need to start griping over that. So far, the withholding of such knowledge had not yet put them in any disadvantageous position, but it was indeed disturbing to realize that as troublesome a creature as Avaggdu for a foe, he still bowed to another. His suggestion had merit, anyway, and Beryl agreed with him on that. Regroup and counter... though there was a possibility that the enemy would do the same. Still, there was hardly a better option, so Caelie, like the others, accepted it with a nod.

As Balthazar opened the portal, Caelie stepped close to Livinia. "If you would be so kind, Livinia, I want everything you've got on Gruuthug and his peon. As the saying goes, 'Know thy enemy...' And I would like to know anything else that would be pertinent to this mission, including information about the dagger. It will help me to plan appropriately."

As a portal opened once again before them, Caelie wondered how long they would take to lick their wounds, and if Gruuthug would not have been amply notified, the longer they waited. Whichever was the case, it seemed a final showdown was in the works, and their preparation now would go some way in determining the outcome of it all.
