Fairy Tail Guild RP Current News

Hey everyone, it's me, your Lord and Savior, your Once and Future King, and your new Admin-for-Life Unlimit Sendo. I'm here to drop some turnbuckle-diving elbows and awesome news. There's been some relatively small updates to rulings regarding summon familiars and single summons. Additionally, there's also been a pretty big update in regards to the AP shop which reorganizes it and adds a ton of new stuff. You can find that in the AP Shop section under Item Creation. Check it out.

The mornings of Dandelion were, as usual, mercilessly cold and biting. Mist rose from breaths and made those with less than adequate clothing, who were foolish enough to venture out, shiver and rethink their poor judgment. In any event, Beryl didn't have to bother about the cold. Such was the cursed blessing of hers. She was highly resistant to weather conditions, a boon she would have been vehemently grateful for, were it not for the fact that attached to the boon was a 'crutch'. Her inclinations to certain vices awakened by the same thing that conferred on her the boon was the problem, and the fear of losing her mind to some otherworldly demonic entity, were she to throw restraint to the winds and overindulge herself in her inclinations were the shackles she needed to be rid of.

Which was why she was here today. Having discovered the possibility of getting herself free of Avaggdu's influence once and for all, and the hope that the monster could be destroyed as well, had brought her out in the early morning, to get to the rendezvous point which had been decided on the night before. Only issue was, Beryl was three hours earlier than the stipulated time for the gathering of the group. All the same, she expected she would not have to wait long for the people with whom she had had an adventure last night. Or at least, most of them.

Caelie and Artesia were not to be involved. Beryl hated saddling other people with her problems, and having her snow-haired friend and her crimson-maned guild mate coming along on this nasty business made the Seveni mage feel guilty. As a result, she had secretly conspired with the knights (who were in as much of the whole Avaggdu trouble as she was, and so were part of the whole matter) to meet much earlier, and depart before her friends were aware of the situation. She could not risk exposing them to the manipulative threat of Avaggdu.

Standing beneath the old building which was to serve as the rendezvous point, the young Geomancer waited quietly. Her friends would be pissed, sure, but it was better to have an angry friend than a dead friend.

Thanks to her peculiar gear, Caelie was the kind of person who could easily dress for the occasion, even though she did not find much opportunity to do so, as 'occasions' were more for social people. Speaking of gear, nothing at this moment made Caelie feel safer than having her weapons and armor on her, as opposed to last night. Now, any assailant who came up against her would realize why, regardless of her weak magic, she was an effective bounty hunter. With a mild smirk, she closed the door which she had just stepped out of behind her and walked down a few steps to the street.

The cold was bitter on this early morning, but Caelie's outfit was well insulated, and so she had no fear for such inclement weather. Feeling snug put her spirits on the high side, not to mention the wonders that some quality sleep had also done for her. Even though perhaps she was not certain of whatever madness the future held down the way, she was at least feeling optimistic, and that would help, if only at the beginning of this journey.

Her mind wandered to her blonde friend, Beryl, and the distraught state in which Caelie had seen her yesterday. She hoped that Beryl would have managed a few hours of quality sleep and would be in the more perky mood she knew her for. As it were, anyway, it was going to be a little while before everyone was up and out for the mission. It was just about 7 o'clock in the morning, and the weasel city of Dandelion was still struggling to stir itself from slumber. That's what keeping late nights did for one.

Hands in the pockets of the thick jacket that framed her form, Caelie walked briskly along, the breeze which picked and fell in intensity pushing backwards the locks of hair that framed her face. She was out this early to take in whatever fresh air Dandelion would afford, and to 'clear her head', as she liked to put it. Such early morning strolls gave her enough time to think, and plan ahead for the days activities. She always found solace in those moments of silence when she could...

The snow haired girl stopped short, squinting into the cold. Was that... Beryl? Yes, it definitely was; there was no mistaking it. Funny that she was also out here in the morning, and even funnier that she was at the rendezvous point, like she was waiting for something. Well, she was alone, so, probably, like Caelie, she wanted to enjoy the silence and tranquility before the whole journey for freedom and stuff came and took away whatever peace there was to have. Anyway, a little chat couldn't ruin the enjoyment of the serene environment.

As Caelie walked over to where she was, she said: "Hey, Beryl. Fancy seeing you here. Out to get some peace and quiet, yeah? Nothing beats that, especially when the rest of the day is bound to go crazy some way or the other. I hope you slept well."

Beryl almost jumped at the sound of the familiar voice behind her. Caelie? How did she know the Seveni girl would be here? Beryl turned, smiling at her white-haired friend as she did. "If I said I wasn't surprised to see you, I would be lying," she replied, "although the promise of getting some moments of peace and quiet before whatever madness attends today is quite tempting. I didn't sleep well, though, I rarely do; but thanks for asking."

For a moment, Beryl was silent, wondering whether she should just pretend as though she was simply out to get fresh air. She quickly decided against that; it was quite bad for trust to lie to one's friends. Although, in a manner of speaking, had she not already lied? When she had arranged with the knights to rendezvous earlier than the agreed-on time, so as to ditch her friends to prevent them from coming along, had she not perpetrated a falsehood?

The Seveni geomancer sighed and shook her head. "I apologize, Caelie, but I was out early, because I didn't want you, or Artesia, to get involved with my mess," she confessed, not able to meet the other mage's gaze. "While I'm absolutely grateful to you both for wanting to help me out, I fear that something may happen to you... anytime I find myself involved with business concerning that abomination called Avaggdu, I lose someone dear to me. And I'm tired of people dying because of me. I'm tired of the whole cycle of madness...."

The sound of footfalls would alert the two girls that they were no longer alone. Round a bend came old Balthazar, followed by his fellow knights. On seeing Beryl and Caelie, they headed towards the two mages. "What's this?" Uther asked, tilting his head to the right. "While I strongly believe in the old 'the more the merrier' adage, I thought you decided that your friends wouldn't be joining you?"

"Things change," Beryl said coolly.

"Pfft, can't even make up her mind," Nadine scoffed.

"I'm quickly making up my mind about changing your dentition configuration," Beryl retorted in a low, dangerous tone. "I'm not in the best of moods. Tread carefully."

The white haired girl raised an eyebrow as Beryl apologized. So that was why she had been out this early. Naturally, Caelie felt a little pissed that Beryl, whom she considered a friend, would want to go off on such a mission and leave her behind, but truth be told, the blonde had a logical reason. Caelie would have probably done the same, especially of the dangers that the quest would pose to her friends was going to be very high. The realization of this cooled much of her temper; she would be a hypocrite if she acted like she would never have done so.

"Fair enough, Beryl. I can respect that. But I need you to know that this is my decision, okay? Whatever happens to me is going to be my fault, and mine alone. I walked into this with both eyes open, and even if this is a really dangerous situation we're up against, I've been on my own before, alone, staring down death in the face where no one would likely ever find me if death did get an upper hand. Yet, I survived. I think we have more chances, since we have each other's backs, so quit worrying about this."

She smiled, her tone becoming more playful. "You will have something to worry about, though, if you try running off on me like this again." She paused, then added, her voice regaining its serious tone:"Still, thanks for being truthful with me. I know you didn't have to." The sound of footfalls brought that aspect of conversation to an end, as the knights with whom they had interacted yesterday showed up. Their surprise at seeing Caelie was expected, but there was no way they would ditch her, especially since Beryl had been unable to get rid of her.

As was her usual behavior, she was quiet as the knights wondered at her presence, leaving Beryl to give the explanations. The one called Nadine was still abrasive, hinting at a level of animosity that seemed to go deeper than just disliking Beryl for having dealings with Avaggdu in the past.

"Hey! I thought we dropped all the animosity yesterday, because we don't need that now, but I'm sure we all know that." She had aimed those words more at Nadine than Beryl, because the knight was to blame for starting it, but Beryl didn't have to take the bait. "What's more important is that we're here, and while I would have liked for us to wait for the redhead who was also involved in this, I suppose the onus rests on Beryl to make that choice."

That was that; Caelie had committed herself to the quest, and like a good friend, had let Beryl know that she was responsible for herself. And from the white-haired one's words, she did have more to her than met the eye. Maybe, if everyone survived this, and when the wind blew more gently, Beryl might get to know her friend's backstory. Truth was, aside the fact that Caelie was a decent person, and able to hold her own in battle, Beryl knew next to nothing about her friend. Hopefully that would change in time.

While Caelie mentioned that she was for waiting for Artesia to arrive, she did allow Beryl to make the decision as to whether to wait for her Sinian guildmate, or press on with those who were currently available. Beryl opted for the latter. Waiting was making her sick, and as she had said earlier, she wasn't in the best of moods. That meant her patience was lacking, unfortunately. At any rate, Beryl had not intended for Caelie or Artesia to come along, so the redhead's absence would not be wept over by Beryl. Not as though she had anything against her guildmate, but she didn't want to have too many people to owe stuff, in her opinion.

"Let's go."

So saying, the Seveni girl drew off her pendant and handed it to Balthazar. The old man took it, drew a strange twisted pen from his belt and etched a few glowing runes on the stone of the jewelry, before placing it on the ground. Next, he etched the same runes on his staff by use of the pen, and returned the strange stylus to his belt. Then just as he had done yesterday in the bar, the old knight struck the stone of Beryl's pendant with the tip of his staff, and it shattered into many pieces, which, this time, ran up a nearby wall and formed a vertical portal, from which emanated a gentle violet light.

Nodding to the other knights, Balthazar stepped back as Uther drew a greatsword from off his back and stepped into the portal. Nadine followed, then Livinia. Drawing her shortswords, Beryl stepped in next, feeling her skin prickle somewhat as she stepped across the threshold of dimensions. Like before, there was a purple corridor stretching ahead, but unlike yesterday's corridor, there was a black door of stone in the distance, obstructing further progress down the tunnel, should someone walk that far.

Caelie shrugged at Beryl's reply. She had expected that the blonde wouldn't want to wait any longer, anyway. Hands still in her pockets, she watched Beryl take off her pendant and hand it over to Balthazar, like she had done yesterday. Looked like they were going to be going into another one of those crystalline tunnels, with the temporal displacement event that would chase them out or obliterate them, if they stayed too long.

There was a difference today, she noticed, from yesterday's portal creating ritual. Balthazar brought out a rune inscribing pen for the occasion. She watched him intently, trying to see if she could recognize the runes he wrote first on the gem stone, then on his staff. From her distance to him, she couldn't make them out clearly, but she was certain, from their design and overall shape, that they were markers to 'lend direction' to wherever this portal was going to open to. Once the runes were written, the same striking of the gem stone with the staff followed, but instead of the portal to open out on the ground, it chose a wall to open against. Temporal and Spatial Displacement magics, definitely.

The knights began going in one after the other, and Caelie followed Beryl into the portal, feeling that tingly feeling which she had experienced yesterday as she had fled into the portal and away from the strange tangible darkness outside the bar. Her eyes drifted from the walls of the tunnel to Beryl's weapons, then to the black door which stood at the other end of the passageway. The knives looked exotic, Diesertian, or so. They kind of reminded Caelie of her 'twins', but discussions on knives and swords would be a story for another day.

"While that black door over there looks foreboding enough to dissuade passage through it, I suppose our favorite deep-space janitor will be showing up sooner or later to encourage us through it. What are we expecting to find on the other side of the black door, Sir Balthazar?"

The old knight took up the rear after Caelie had entered the interdimensional portal, sealing the entryway with a wave of his staff. The group began moving towards the foreboding door, for no other reason than the fact that there was really no other way to go. As they walked, Balthazar shrugged in response to Caelie's question. "To be honest, I cannot specifically say, White One," he replied. "I do know that we're going to find the Sigil of Dreams, as I did mention yesterday."

The path to the black door seemed longer than it normally should have been, most likely the result of being in a dimension in which space and time didn't work as they did on the dimension of Earthland. "The Sigil of Dreams, as was also said, should be in a Guardian temple, one of the most hidden and remote, which is why it has not been discovered by our enemy," Balthazar continued, "but all I know about our destination is that it is a temple. Beyond that, I cannot really say. We're somewhat taking a leap into the unknown."

Very soon, the group reached the door, and Uther poked at the solid-looking structure with his greatsword. Despite looking as though it had the constituency of stone, Uther's weapon passed through the structure cleanly, causing him to draw back his weapon with confusion, as there wasn't even the slightest hint of resistance. "It is actually an empty space. Pass through it, and we shall arrive at our destination," Balthazar said. The younger male knight nodded once, set his jaw, and took a step through the apparently solid construct, and was gone.

Without skipping a beat, Beryl stepped up and through the portal, her weapons at the ready. As she stepped into the blackness, it felt stuffy, and then there was an odd popping sound in her ears, before they were filled with the roar of a storm in full swing. Beryl noticed that she had emerged in the shadow of some decrepit ruins, the architecture rather strange to behold. All around, the wind howled like a demon, causing her to take shelter from the weather behind a wall, where Uther was currently stationed. The sky was red with ominous streaks of black, and here and there streaked fulminating courses of pale green lightning.

"Lovely place to build a temple, yes?"

The appellation "White One" earned Balthazar a very mild raise of an eyebrow from Caelie. Seemed like a nickname, which she didn't really expect from him. Perhaps that was because he was elderly, or was a knight, and as a result of either or both, was meant to show some level of stoic demeanor. Nevertheless, that was stereotyping the man into some sort of expected character, something Caelie didn't really like, but found herself tending to do from time to time. Besides, the name was not derogatory in any way, though she had no clue whether it made her sound... ancient?

The young woman nodded in response to Balthazar's reply, hardly any more in the light than she had been before asking. However, there was a mild consolation from what he had said: this temple was remote and undiscovered by the enemy, so if anything, they ought to breeze in and breeze out, unless... With the little she knew about temple complexes and structures that guarded important artifacts, there was bound to be some sort of guardian, in the form of sentient/semi-sentient sentries, or deadly traps. Maybe, just maybe, Balthazar would have some password that would let them through easy. They were the good guys after all, right?

Deciding not to bother asking the old knight about the details of any existing "overrides" for temple security, she walked down the crystalline passage, noting mentally with mild interest that the distance between their location and the black door was longer than it looked, like they were walking along a road that was moving towards them, thus drawing them backwards and making the trip take more time. As long as the "deep-space janitor" didn't show up to give them a run for it, it was only a mild inconvenience for one who was feeling impatient.

Once at the door, it was discovered that it was more of an open space than a "door" with a solid obstruction covering its exit. She was just as surprised as Uther was when his blade passed clean through, but it was expected, she belatedly told herself. Space-time was a really complicated thing; it was almost impossible to understand all its nuances and laws. Their current authority on such matters, Balthazar, indicated that it was not harmful, and so, following her blonde friend, she stepped through the portal.

There was an evident shift in pressure, then the sounds of screaming winds assailed her ears. Looking up, she noticed that the party had come out spot in the middle of a preternatural storm. At first, she wanted to assume that they had been transported to Seven, because Seven's skies had the penchant for being really weird every now and then. But this could be just about any place on Earthland, if this was Earthland at all.

"Where are we exactly?"

With everyone out of the interdimensional passage, the portal shattered into slivers of crystalline violet, which suddenly coalesced to form Beryl's pendant unspoiled on the ground some distance away. Balthazar, the last to pass through the portal, picked it up before hobbling over to the group taking shelter in the ruins, at which point he handed it over to the Earth mage.
"Well, that's not a little bit nifty," the Seveni girl said with approval as she retrieved her jewelry and slipped its cord round her neck.

Caelie's question elicited confused looks from the members of the group. "From the skies alone, we're not in Earthland," Beryl intoned, looking up at the weirdly hued sky. "Even the skies of Seven aren't half this screwed." The old man cleared his throat. "We're in another dimension, yes. One whose name and characteristics are unknown to me," he said. "But that there is our destination."

Anyone who followed the direction of the old man's finger with their eyes would see a huge twisted spire of black rock in the distance. Irregularities on its surface suggested windows, pillars, roofs and other structures associated with building supports. "That there is the Spine of Chaos, if I am correct," Livinia piped up, as the knights quickly went over their weapons and made ready. "It looks far--"

"Then what are we waiting for?" Beryl interjected before leaping out from the shadow of the ruins and running at full tilt towards the Spine of Chaos. Shortly after she began running, a streak of green lightning struck the earth a few meters behind her, causing her to scream, although it did little to prevent her from continuing her forward advance. A little while after the strike of lightning, another green bolt cauterized the ground in her wake.

"Fool child will get herself killed," Balthazar muttered. "It does look exciting, though," Uther commented, just before Nadine bolted as well, though she was wise to stay clear of Beryl's tracks. Uther was quick to follow, just as lightning began tagging their steps, just as was the case with Beryl. Balthazar smiled and shook his head as Livinia called to her colleagues to wait, dashing out as well.

"Children...."

"Could be Earthland, just under some whack weather spell, but yes, it's logical that we're in another dimension," Caelie noted, almost as surprised as the others were that such a sky could exist in their dimension. Even though, as Beryl put it, the skies of Seven weren't half this screwed, those skies in the worst of their nights was proof that such an event of "screwed skies" was quite possible. That was not their biggest problem, though. Who knew what else this place would hold for them?

So, the temple was called the "Spine of Chaos"? The whole thing did look like chaos, a befitting moniker for a place like this. Caelie studied the ugly black rock in the distance with some misgiving. At least, whoever was responsible for this could have made it look more like a temple and less like a demon's tooth. Meh, maybe the bad guys had run this place before, then the forces of good swept them out and took over. Its ominous visage made Caelie suspect that what they would witness within would be uglier than what was without.

Without warning, Beryl ran for the rock... and a good thing she ran. If she had walked, the green lightning bolt that descended moments behind her would have incinerated her. Unless, of course, the lightning was just some special effects, but seeing the ground where the lightning had struck instantly divested Caelie of such ideas. The other knights followed suit, and they too were targeted by the odd lightning. Unlike them, however, Caelie did not move from where she crouched beside Balthazar.

"Is that supposed to be happening? The lightning, I mean? Is it a fail safe against intruders to the temple, or is someone actively attacking us?" As Caelie asked the old knight these questions, her eyes peered into the wind, trying to identify any movement that did not belong to her allies, that suggested there was something else alive out here with them.

"And, forgive me for asking, sir, but how do you intend to get to the Spine? I don't suppose you intend to run at full tilt like the others..."

Like Balthazar had mentioned, with some visible affection, that recklessness was a youth thing. He had to have some other means of traversing the hazardous environment. And Caelie was not keen on leaving him here and running off. If they had decided to work as a team, they ought to move as a team.

Hmmm, maybe the others would find a way of 'shutting down' the lightning. If it was not orchestrated by a living being, chances were that there would be a way to disable it.
