Verba volant, scripta manent.

He wasn't enough of an idiot, or really one in general, to think it a wise idea to storm a so called cult located in the Cinnabar Range by himself. In a different time, perhaps he would have, but with the organization apparently being a very cruel one, well there were bound to be a few unpleasant moments ahead. On second thought, it might have been a better idea to bring another individual along with Emily, a girl he had met a month previous in Ironforge, but then again most of the blonde's other acquaintances that could help probably wouldn't be too willing, considering his motives.

Nevertheless, it would be futilely pointless to turn back at that time, for the two had already trekked for a few hours to find the location of the cult, known better as the White Dawn. Indeed, with them masquerading as one of the many tribes in the mountainous region, it was no easy task to pinpoint a precise gathering place. While the general area had been known to be near the Spire Of Gedatsu, not to mention being underground, those two hints were vague enough that even though Leonidas had been searching since before sunset, the darkness had already fallen, revealing the eerie glow of the formations of quartz in all their vermillion glory. He wasn't impatient, and most certainly not afraid of the night, but chances were the red-haired girl in his company was having second thoughts, based on what he knew about her. Not everyone had all the time in the world, after all.

Indeed, it was with some sense of relief that he spotted a narrower path then what the pair had trodded upon thus far. Although to most in such a lighting it would seem just that, a choice with no evident destination, the crimson-eyed man had caught a glimpse of a not so grand downwards slope, leading towards an apparent entrance to an underground cave system, or something of that nature. Pointing his currently armored right hand towards the small gap, Leonidas turned to Emily. "I think I see an entrance to this bloody cult's hiding place up ahead. Stay behind me, okay? It's a bit of a tight fit." Distaste was evident as he referred to the organization.

Moving forward with careful poise did he turn sideways to squeeze through the cliff face, bringing his shoulders back simultaneously, although soon the passage would widen enough to be able to revert back to a normal gait. Yes, it would not be long before the blonde found himself at the mouth of a black cavern, his mind retracing for a moment what the purpose of such an expedition truly was. The White Dawn themselves were a peculiar subject, known for their brutalization of inhuman individuals if nothing else, but there was a small link between them and a certain incident in Tessera that hinted that they were more then just underground zealots. At the very least, there was bound to be some sort of information pertaining different methods of sedation that the cult was rumored to possess, and if not even that was proven to be true, well the evening wasn't terribly disagreeable. Leonidas had a feeling any violent urges he might come across would be hard to deny, and in such company as the green-eyed girl, there was simply no need to.

"Well, this looks just about as promising as its going to get. Brace yourself," he stated, diligently stepping into the embrace of the darkness. A few steps in did the blonde draw Calamitas, an ever faint violet glow hovering in the catacomb if only for a moment. A warning, perhaps, but the thought of the light's origin only made Leonidas grit his teeth, newfound determination gushing forth.

The location in which the pair found themselves was unlike anything that the green-eyed murderess had ever experienced before. The bizarre formations of rock only added to the alien atmosphere that was being experienced and a less dark-minded individual might find the whole thing disturbing in the extreme. As for the redhead, fascination was the only thing evident on her face.

After Leonidas spoke Emily scoffed silently to herself:Stay behind me? Why? He surely couldn’t imagine that she was unable to defend herself, could he? She supposed that he probably could, given that he had no real reference points to her character. He’d never seen the way she could use a knife, so perhaps it was understandable. It might suit her purposes if he thought she was weak or unable to make a robust fighter. Taking him by surprise would only bolster her kudos with him and make him more likely to respect her.

Being slightly smaller in the frame than her blond companion, Emily easily fit through the gap and followed behind him when they entered the darkness. The sound of his sword being drawn prompted her to draw her own blade, the black dagger just another piece of darkness. As she drew the blade, a surge of magic encased her body in a glistening suit of icy armor, ready to protect against any unseen blows that might be directed at her.

Leaning in close to Leonidas she whispered, “I’m braced!”

"Alright, that's good. Is it pitch-black in here?" he asked. Despite its oddity, the query was quite genuine. Indeed, the blonde possessed a degree of night vision, which was useful but unfortunately a bit debilitating when it came to putting others' perspectives into hand. He could see clearly the walls on either side of the two about two feet away, a length that he probably would have preferred doubled or tripled, and that a sharp turn was quickly approaching. Aside from that, well there wasn't much to see, even though Leonidas had heard the familiar song of the drawing of another blade, presumably Emily's since it had come from behind. Yes, as he looked behind for a moment he caught a glimpse of the girl's dagger, the color of it's edge even darker than Calamitas's deep gray.

Despite all things, his eyesight had been the primary reason why he had told her to stay behind him, and in all honesty he was quite wary of leaving his back exposed to her, even though technically it wasn't. No matter Emily's response, however, the crimson-eyed man would opt to move forward, taking the only logical route of the bend in the road ahead. What lay ahead was nothing extraordinary, a hallway all too similar to the previous. It seemed almost as if the passages were man-made, and perhaps they were, for the width and height of them really was only convenient for a human or other modestly proportioned race. Such a concept made Leonidas wonder for a moment if there was another entrance hidden somewhere, considering the stories he had heard about the White Dawn.

"I would say this passage is a bit too orchestrated to be natural, don't you think?"

As he rounded another turn, the cavern widened exponentially, the ceiling arching upwards to at least 20 feet above, lengthwise even larger. On the opposite side of the area was a set of torches, distant off but lighting up a large portion of the place. It was light enough, at least, for the blonde to be able make out two distant figures guarding the entrance to something, although it didn't seem to be the case that they had noticed the two intruders because they did not seem overly alert. Silently, he turned around, addressing Emily in a whisper. "I'll take the left flank. Try to make this stealthy, I'd rather not attract the attention of the entire organization quite yet." Seamlessly switching his blade to his left hand, Leonidas positioned it parallel to his left leg as to reduce any potential glare it could cast off. Slowly he indirectly approached the guards, making it a careful point to not be seen for as long as possible.

“I think they expect visitors coming in this way. They’d like to decide who exactly they let in.”

In the half-light that bounced around the cavern, Emily’s eyes were adjusting to the twilight, so that now she could make out the guards that Leonidas was talking about. She watched them carefully but they seemed to be standing in one place, looking guard-ish. It was going to make her job a great deal easier that they weren’t pacing back and forth. The redhead went right at Leonidas’ instruction. She was glad to be doing something with which she had experience now. It made her feel more settled.

The crimson-haired killer clung tightly to the shadows that ringed the wall of the cavern, approaching her target with as much stealth as she could muster. The guards wore armored breastplates and helmets but their throats weren’t covered by any armor. It was a fortunate thing for Emily as she palmed a throwing knife from under her traveling cloak and, at the last moment, stepped into the light and flicked the razor-edged weapon at the man’s throat. Her aim was clear and true and with a sickening gurgle the guard keeled over and slid to the floor.

Emily hadn’t turned to see what was happening on the other side, but she had no worries about Leonidas’ ability to handle whatever was thrown at him. In fact, she was rather hoping to see him in action. Killing was always such a gorgeous thing to watch especially when it was done by someone with a talent for it.

At a similar speed to Emily did the blonde approach from the shadows. He had done it a thousand times before, and was prepared to do it a thousand times again. Yes, the darkened beauty of the night was indeed something to behold even when the sky was not visible, for it signaled a different way of life then the day. Survival of the fittest was the only law in such a place and at such an hour. The bloodshed that followed was simply glorious.

It would be a criminal action not to institute the art in Leonidas's mind at that moment. A wicked grin crossed his visage as the left guard turned for a moment, hearing a single loud metallic footstep echo throughout the cavern from behind before she found herself with a blade in her windpipe and other arteries of note. A painful death awaited, but the blonde didn't care about his victim in the slightest, or if he did it wasn't out of pity or guilt. It had been so long since he had witnessed that vibrant hue of red in great quantities, so horribly long. His crimson gaze never left the women as she fell to the ground unconscious, and with a foot did he kick her body over, watching with a not so foreign satsifaction as she bled out, trembled gasps and all. It wasn't long before it faded, however, leaving two dead carcasses on the floor. He wanted more, he needed more. His sane intent may have been for information, or more honestly revenge, but now that someone was dead by his hands once again, there would only be more carnage.

The insatiable lust for destruction coursed through his veins straight and true. It didn't matter that the blonde was half human at that point, for the other side had already taken a hold, further proven by the low, borderline maniacal, laughter that protruded from his throat. A cursory glance at Emily followed, if only to gauge her reaction, before Leonidas walked towards the door the two former guards had been futilely attempting to protect. A single turn and push of a brass doorknob later resulted in a sick sense of disappointment, for the hall beyond seemed utterly devoid of inhabitants. There were various objects scattered around, but no scrolls or any sort of writing littered the floor. Calamitas still dripping blood did his feet patter the room, not attempting any form of communication with his accomplice. It was the best option at the current moment.

Emily smiled a genuine smile. There was nothing like watching a true artisan at work. The way that Leonidas had dispatched the other guard was a tour de force. It was so incredible to see someone who knew how to kill at work. She wasn’t unhappy with what she’d done, but it was expedient. Leonidas had made it into a series of fluid motions and it made the redhead so happy to watch it. Now they moved forward, the blond man laughing madly. As if to answer him, Emily also laughed at the sheer pleasure of what they’d done.

After they opened the door, silence fell again. There was no use in talking, so they moved forward. The room was suspiciously empty and Emily kept her grip on Blood’s Tear tight. There was a spell lurking in her mind as well, ready to unleash her ice magic if necessary. There was a certain amount of excitement in the process that the crimson-haired killer found pleasing. The frisson of danger that she felt only added to the thrill. There was nothing like knowing that one would have to adapt to a dangerous situation.

They crept along the edges of the room with all of their senses seeking danger. The whole set up screamed of being a trap, but as yet there was no firm indication of the veracity of the idea. Only continuing to press on would reveal the truth. Emily had to admit that this was the sort of thing for which she’d been built. Few others could derive quite so much pleasure from this situation. It didn’t matter that she could be in a great deal of danger. It simply didn’t register.

The man's crimson eyes were quick to narrow as the pair proceeded further down the dilapidated hall. It didn't seem logical for guards to be posted in such a remote area when all they were protecting appeared to be scattered bits and pieces of machinery. The entire situation was odd, enough so that Leonidas was indeed wary, although it certainly was not portrayed in a typical fashion. Yes, where one would usually position their weapon in front of their torso or other sensitive areas to potentially block incoming blows, his was poised in a downward angle to the side, edge pointed straight ahead. Indeed, the blonde was prepared to attack rather than defend. As for the two passages branching out from the cavern the two were currently inhabiting, indeed they were tainted with life. How much was indeterminate, but did it really matter? They were simply more targets, more mindless fools lingering in foul doctrine.

It just so happened to be that the particular members of the White Dawn arriving at the scene were priests, or at least the second one coming from the left hallway was. Of course there was no way of knowing aside from the silver hued garments the man wore and the staff he carried that contrasted his bodyguard's black attire and set of daggers wielded with a reverse grip, but nevertheless the blonde kept a close eye on him, even while facing the guard. There was one advantageous trait in the situation, none of the incoming opponents happened to be wearing armor, nor were the qualities of their weapons that great, as Leonidas, and perhaps Emily, with opponents of her own to spar, would soon discover.

It was a simple charge forward by the darkly cladded guard that signaled his eminent demise. For whilst such a grip on a weapon added protection to the forearms, it left one without sufficient speed wide open if they were not continuously positioned in what would be considered a defensive position. Yes, it was certainly not an offensive stance, but the bodyguard didn't exactly get it right either. His right arm was too far away from his side, and straight at that. It was almost a laughable mistake, and one the crimson eyed man quickly took advantage of. With a single stroke upwards the guard found himself missing an arm, although fairly enough he had managed a counterstrike with his left. Had the blonde been unarmored, it could have potentially resulted in the severance of a limb, but luckily he wasn't. As a matter of fact, it wasn't hard for him to simply raise his right arm to block the attack, and although the force of the contact was notable the blade itself only left a deep scratch on the metal plated glove he wore. It was easy enough to stab the guard through the heart as he reeled in pain after that.

Indeed, the priest was the problematic subject. Unfortunately for Leonidas, people with such an occupation tended to possess magic, and for him it was quite the painful one. While his skills in combat were obviously lacking, the man had taken advantage of his comrade's demise rather ingeniously. Midway through the extraction of Calamitas from the recently made corpse did the blonde find himself gritting his teeth from the familiar sense of agony that could only come from one thing he particularly depised. It was holy magic, in the form of a blow taken to his upper left arm in conjunction with the priest's staff. Almost immediately the blade in his hand clattered to the ground, but with a look of vengeance reserved for a very specific group of people did the blonde grasp the set of kunai hanging from his belt, only to swing a punch at the side of the priest's exposed neck. It wasn't necessarily the way they were supposed to be used, but the knives did their job well, piercing his windpipe.

It wasn't long before Leonidas clipped the secondary weapons back onto his person, soon to grip the spot where he had been struck with the priest's magic. Yet again, his armor had taken the blunt of the damage, it was more or less his body's unfortunate reaction to the category of holy magic in all its forms that was causing pain and considerable detriment to his arm. As a precautionary measure, and in attempt to dull the throbbing, he whispered a single word that would set a healing spell in effect, with power meager at best. Sighing, he then proceeded to bend down and pick up Calamitas with his right hand.

"Ah well, there goes trying to get some practice in."

As the guard moved in to make his attack against Leonidas, Emily was about to have her own priestly guard with whom to contend. The woman was statuesque and powerfully built and she wielded two hatchet-like axes with powerful precision. The redhead had seen felt the magic usage and she wasn’t about to let this woman close enough to do the same thing to her. With a flare of energy that fizzed through her body, Emily brought her own magic to bear. From her empty left hand, a long rapier of ice exploded forward. It was long enough to span the crimson-haired killer’s arms plus its own length.

The axe woman feinted in towards her, trying to get under her guard but Emily fought with the long blade extended. It wasn’t flimsy ice like an icicle, so it withstood the woman’s axe blows as the lithe young woman parried. The priest dropped her guard and Emily made a thrilling riposte that drove the ice blade into her shoulder. The woman screamed and tried to hit the redhead with her other axe.

The psychopathic fighter caught the blow with Blood’s Tear, but the impact jarred up her arm and nearly shook the dagger loose. The priest smirked and tried to punch her in the face. Emily turned but still caught a glancing blow across the cheekbone. It hurt and sent her back a step, but nobody punched her and got away with it. She growled in annoyance, thrust forward with her ice blade again and drove it through the woman’s stomach.

A gout of blood erupted from the priest’s mouth and Emily smiled coldly. She stepped in and slashed the woman’s throat wide open with Blood’s Tear before stepping back and wiping the blade on her robes. She grinned at Leonidas.

“Who the hell needs practice? Let’s find some more dance partners!”

"Alright, alright," he replied with a seemingly grudging tone, but one look at the blonde's visage would paint an entirely different image. Indeed, there was a spark of life in his unnaturally hued gaze, one that had become all too rare in the light of recent events. Even in pain the contempt sneer on his face was quick to reiterate itself, although there was clearly a more sincere air to it reflecting exuberance and fulfillment. Above all was the ever present ruinous intent, prominent in his poise along with his every action, but still if one looked past that they could perhaps envision a complete turn around in character from day to night. A constant battle, in ways, a melodious symphony in others.

"Well, this is a bit of a predicament. I'm just going to go off on a whim and head left. If you want to go right instead be my guest, I don't really care. If you do choose that path try to pick up anything that seems borderline useful though."

Not bothering to go into further detail, Leonidas did just as he said he would, not hesitating to hear her reply if there even was any. Emily made good company, certainly, but she wasn't someone that warranted babysitting, and he doubted she would appreciate it in the first place. The girl seemed capable of handling herself in any case.

Rounding a now empty corridor, the blonde came across another deserted room. Unlike before, however, the area was not dilapidated. As a matter of fact, it seemed rather orderly, consisting of shelves with books and scrolls filed neatly within them. The only problem was how many books there were. Vaguely keeping track of the security of the cavern, he sheathed Calamitas temporarily, running a finger across the nearest series of titles. They were all about demon classification, something that wasn't useful for him in the slightest. It was a bit of annoyance not being able to use two hands, but at least there didn't seem to be any threats in the room yet.

Emily shook her head vigorously at the suggestion of going her own way. She swept around in a wide arc to embrace the whole room before she spoke. “No sirree. I’m not going off on my own! If they jump me, how am I gonna defend my own back? Nah. I’ll stick with you. Besides two blades are better than one right? They can’t get around us if we’re backing each other up.”

They made their way into the other room, noticing that things were neatly organized and suprisingly free of dust and grime. It was a rare experience for the redhead to see ancient tomes and grimoires not covered in two thousand years of dust. These were clearly used on a regular basis and it heartened Emily to see the books on demon classification. She would have liked to have grabbed one but she figured it might not be useful to try and haul some gigantic book around.

She was about to make an observation, but there was the soft scrape of a door opening and a babble of voices that came from their left side. A line of priests began shuffling into the room and Emily tapped Leo’s shoulder and darted behind one of the shelves, moving Blood’s Tear into the correct position for an easy attack. At least this place wasn’t boring!
