Close to the entrance of the forest Hikaru remained motionless, sitting in a cross-legged position. Having closed his eyes he was listening to the wind rustling through the leaves, smelling the earthy scents of the dirt and fallen twigs around him. Slowly he moved his hands over the soil and picked up a clump, running his fingers through it and appreciating the texture. It was said that the masters of the Kagetaiyo no Ryu could see through any illusion, hear the heartbeats of their query through stone walls, smell their fear as they closed in for the kill. He had seen his own father fight against opponents on both fronts like he had eyes in the back of his head. Yet at best all he could manage was this... meditation exercise. A part of him wondered if he had managed overcome his personal issues and stayed at home if he would be closer to attaining that level of mastery. He thought back to the words of elder Dai as he had left. "It does not matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop." His hand on his sword he gripped it until his knuckles turned white. No, he wasn't going to stop. Perhaps someday soon he would see progress and know irrefutably that his path was worth the effort. Relaxing his grip he breathed deeply before standing up. His worn hands sought out the trunk of a nearby tree and with unsteady feet he moved further into the forest. It was time to see how far his training could take him. |

"How do I look?"
|
Humming the tune of three blind mice, Ashlyn made her way through the neighboring forest of Poinsetta. It was truly an odd melody for her to travel to, considering that they were blind much like herself and being chased by a vengeful farmer's wife, though she thought short melodies like it were quite enjoyable. It wasn't often that she came into Lavender Forest, a place that she hadn't actually visited until she had gained her magic. A couple of months back when she was learning how to control her newfound sense, this was a location that she would come to learn the finer details of traveling in non-rural areas. It allowed her to know when to keep cautious if something lay in her path, such as a root or stone, and taught her how to become more accepting of unfamiliar areas. Having been born blind and without this godsend gift of magic, exploring was once something she never imagined herself doing without company. She had always been enclosed within the city of Poinsetta, limited further to only walking on paths that she was familiar with. This forest was something she only read about and occasionally heard in friendly chatter, but now she was really living a dream. While she did train her sense in this forest, today was more focused on learning how to gather wild berries and generally enjoying herself without much care towards time. It wasn't like she could keep a decent track of the time of the day beyond where the warmth of the sun was coming from, but that was typically a terribly rough estimate. She noticed a nearby bush fitting the general size and shape of what she was looking for before making her way over and kneeling down. Running her hand across one of the leaves, it didn't feel quite as smooth as the bush in question, but at least it wasn't a random prickly one. She plucked one of the berries on the bush, the size was proper. Squeezing it between her index and thumb, she would pop it and smell the aroma that was let out, "Oh..." It certainly didn't fit the bill and she wasn't yet comfortable enough to taste a random berry that could be poisonous. Wiping the juices onto the leaves, she would get back up and be on her way. That is, until a few minutes later, she passed by a peculiar oddity within her senses' range, "Hello? Is somebody there?" She stood still, unsure of whether to proceed, until she figured out if it was someone she happened to be passing by, a stalker, or something worse. |
