Hey everyone, it's me, your Lord and Savior, your Once and Future King, and your new Admin-for-Life Unlimit Sendo. I'm here to drop some turnbuckle-diving elbows and awesome news. There's been some relatively small updates to rulings regarding summon familiars and single summons. Additionally, there's also been a pretty big update in regards to the AP shop which reorganizes it and adds a ton of new stuff. You can find that in the AP Shop section under Item Creation. Check it out.

Alas, it seemed Lilith's assumptions were based on observations of the optimistic side of Dandelion, at best. She was disappointed by Beryl's words, to say the least. But, to say the mage was surprised would be anything but the truth. Even though she had a lot of hopes, Lilith wasn't someone to easily take to an idea. Especially when it came to the city she had lived in since she was 10. Or perhaps it had been less of a life, and more of a struggle.

Swirling the spoon she was holding around the rim of the ice cream bowl absentmindedly, Lilith listened to Beryl's second, and much longer, spiel. "Ahhh, I see. It's a shame, but I'm not too surprised," she interjected as the other girl paused for a moment, sticking the spoon in her rose-colored ice cream, although not scooping as to take another bite. And although Beryl's final question was probably meant to be rhetorical, the mage found herself answering, or at least putting her thoughts in, almost immediately.

"Someone brave, that's for sure. Your guild sounds like a decent place, maybe they'll make a change. Or maybe it'll just be the common people. Someone has to come who can inspire them to make a change. I can say from my own experience that the people of Dandelion aren't too happy with their situation. For many, this city's a prison of sorts. In fact, I think it used to literally be one."

Her second-to-last sentence was spoken from the heart.

The dark-haired girl had chosen to answer, even if Beryl's question was, by itself, not in need of a response. And her response had gotten Beryl a bit pensive, as the Seveni girl considered the factors which would be most likely to produce a change in Fiore's very own cesspit, in Beryl's terminology.

"Of itself, I daresay bravery isn't enough," the Earth mage replied, the pensive expression still on her face. "Some may argue that it was bravery which enabled some specific people to rise up, take their fate in their hands, and get to their current positions at the top of the criminal establishments that govern Dandelion. After all, who wouldn't want to be their own boss and all that? The mere fact that someone could get higher than all the basic crime and thievery is proof they had enough spunk to face their fears, and that is enough."

The Nine Lives mage smiled, but the expression was more dolorous than joyful. "The common people? Nah, not ever. The people here are too cowardly to take a stand to do anything. 'As long as the mugger's knife isn't at your throat, and there's someone else you can always cheat or steal from, you're doing just fine'. I've heard that a lot in these parts; only the wordings were different. The people of Dandelion may not be happy with their situation, but they damn well aren't tired of it!"

If Beryl could make the right assumptions, Lilith had been. Which was most likely why she had left Dandelion. Those who got tired left, because they probably understood that changing the place would require much more than merely the efforts of one man or woman, and all that was had to be spent was effort. Lilith had mentioned that there could be some hope that Nine Lives would change the city. Beryl hoped so too. Only matter was, if the people decided to remin where they were, little would come of anyone's efforts to help. After all, all most people here knew was the criminal life, and Beryl knew most of them would kick against whoever wanted to change the life they'd known for so long. Violently.

"As for this place being a literal prison once, you got that right, dear," the Seveni girl intoned, before taking another scoop of her ice cream. She had read a good deal about this city's history, and she had not been impressed. "I've read that Dandelion was built on shit, figuratively. Shit work and shit people. Probably why many people just face life here with the 'some things never change' mentality. And humans are generally selfish. We want people who'll sacrifice life and limb to open the prison doors, while fearing to risk harm to ourselves or our own in helping them. A bitter irony, if you ask me."

Well, perhaps it wouldn't do much to dwell on the darkness that shrouded Dandelion. Her dessert nearly finished now, Beryl asked Lilith, "so, if it isn't too personal, again, where do you plan to go from here?"

Yet again, she knew Beryl was right. It hurt all too badly to admit it, to think in her head that nothing really had changed, but that was the truth. Even with a little bit of icing on the cake, things were just the same as they always were. After all, icing didn't make the cake itself. Some people would even argue that the creamy sugar made the entire desert worse. And of course, the mindset the other mage had mentioned was all too familiar in Lilith's head. At one point, she had thought the same. The only way that had changed for her was by an outsider, or many to be exact. The people by themselves wouldn't gain hope. Compared to other cities, Dandelion was somewhat isolated. People didn't visit the city for fun, just business. And people who came to the place for business almost never wanted a revolution. That would only make things difficult.

The mage took a few more bites of the ice cream in front of her, finishing even as Beryl was still speaking. The other girl obviously held the city of Dandelion in low standards, but something told Lilith that she cared about the place, simply based on the fact that she would debate with the brown-haired girl on the topic. At that point in time, Lilith wasn't really so sure of her feelings on the city. She wanted to say that she had put her past behind her, but the fact that the mage was seated where she was currently was living testimony to disprove that thought.

And then Beryl posed a question, that, although simple in nature, truly made Lilith ponder her choices. Up until that point, the girl had just been traveling Fiore, trying to live life to its fullest. Yet, now she had a goal, to further her magic. The problem was that she didn't really know how to do so. The mage would eventually join a guild, she supposed, but right now her craft was so weak that she doubted any guild would accept her. She could stay in Dandelion, she supposed. No, on second thought that was a horrible idea. The capital of Crocus would probably have information on magic, wouldn't it? Still thinking to herself, Lilith settled on that city as her answer, even if that wouldn't truly be the case.

"Well, I'm thinking about heading to Crocus next, probably stopping by Belladonna and the like on the way. I've heard some pretty fascinating stories about both cities. Have you ever been to either?"

Lilith seemed interested in heading for Crocus, and passing through Belladonna. Well, there had to be some merit in the girl's desire to do so. Having heard amazing tales about a place was certainly enough reason to want to go there. Beryl, for her part, had not really heard anything fascinating about Crocus; as a matter of fact, she wasn't sure she liked the place, the one time she was there. Belladonna's case was funny, because she had been in the Cinnabar Range at least twice, and had not entered the city.

"Well, I did scrape by Crocus, but Belladonna is a no, although I've been in the general area a couple of times," the Seveni girl replied to Lilith's question. "Each to her own, I suppose, but I think Crocus is overrated, what with all the aristocrats with their noses stuck up their asses.... Okay, I lied, Crocus is amazing, if it's only sights you're interested in. The humans there are, for lack of a better word, horrific. Although I wouldn't mind going there again, if only to burgle someone's house."

Her face was dead serious when she made her last statement, but a moment afterwards, Beryl grinned broadly and shook her head. "Just kidding, actually," the Seveni girl said, twirling her dessert spoon in her graceful fingers. "There is something of note in Crocus, though: as whitewashed as the people like to appear, do you know there's a sector in Crocus which somewhat resembles Dandelion?"

As for Belladonna, Beryl was more interested in going there. With all the lachryma research going on, it did sound like a fun kind of place. In any case, most of the major cities of Fiore were actually interesting in their own right, maybe except Dandelion. Beryl had to smile at the... uniqueness of the city in which she dwelt. Remembering she had only spoken about one of the two cities Lilith had mentioned, Beryl continued, "about Belladonna, I hear there's a lot of new things popping up, as far as lachryma studies are concerned. I think it's also very peaceful, with the light guild Lamia Scale watching over it.

In any case, if I were to go visiting places, I think I'd want to visit Mizhou or one of those mystical places in the mountains, like Taiji or the Wuji Valley."

Lilith smiled as Beryl joked about robbing a house, although the mage wouldn't be surprised if the other girl really would have done such a thing. She wouldn't be overly bothered, though, even if that was the case. Stealing from the rich was much different then stealing from the middle and low classes in her opinion. Plus, Beryl didn't look the part of a hardened murderer, so the brown-haired girl assumed that she would be the type to burgle in a discreet way. Nothing was certain, though. After all, Lilith had just met the other mage earlier that day.

It was a bit surprising for Beryl to say Crocus had a part of it that was a bit like Dandelion. Before that day, the mage had never heard of such a thing. Then again, people had a bad habit of telling much about the good aspects of things and little about the bad. Whatever the case, Lilith's previous smile had melted a bit.

"Huh, I didn't. I've heard great things about their libraries though. That's pretty much why I'm going there, although I've wanted to see the castle since I was little I guess," she responded, the smile returning ever so slightly at the mention of Crocus's palace. Beryl continued, with words that Lilith found somewhat more optimistic to face. If Belladonna was peaceful that would hopefully mean her search for information on magic would go smoothly. Whether it would go well would remain to be seen.

At the mention of three other locations did Lilith consider them. She'd certainly heard of all three, and been to Mizhou, but the fact that Beryl was drawn to such places told the blue-eyed girl much about her. Perhaps she was someone who liked to break the mold, a trait in many people who had left Dandelion for better pickings exhibited. Then again, Lilith didn't really even know if the girl had grown up in the city. It was obvious she had spent time in the place, though.

"Mizhou's really neat, with all the different countries represented and such, but I guess it's not really what I'm looking for. I've heard great things about the two Valleys. I'll get around to visiting them sometime," she stated. After a bit of thought, Lilith's mouth parted again.

"Say, do you travel much?"

"Yay," Beryl said in response to Lilith's explanation of the selling point of the country's capital city. "So you're a scholar as well. Good to know." Of course it was very possible that the brunette was attracted to the libraries of Crocus for some reason other than the perusal of catalogued books. But unless one wanted to think up a probably absurd, or at least, unexpected reason for Lilith's lack of interest in the books of Crocus, it was more comfortable to assume that the spatial mage was a reader.

Of course, Beryl was certain that, just by looking at herself, one would scarcely imagine that she was actually a fan of studying. But she actually did like the fact that it would be difficult for someone, bar psychic powers, to be able to look at her and immediately come to a correct conclusion regarding her lifestyle, likes and other defining features that made Beryl who she was.

The Seveni girl scooped the last glob of ice cream in her cup out, and put it in her mouth. "All good things must eventually come to an end..." she thought, with a mild feeling of disappointment, although Beryl was not inclined to have a second helping of the dessert. Her attention focused on the brown-haired girl, who was talking about the variegated nature of Mizhou being the beautiful thing about it. Beryl could agree with her on that, although her opinions of the appeal of the varied sights and sounds of Mizhou were most likely different than Lilith's. Still, the spatial mage seemed interested in visiting the mountainous regions Beryl had mentioned.

"Hmmm?" was the initial response to the brunette's latest question. "Yeah, you could say so..." there was a pause, "or more correctly, I used to. As of now, I'm a little bit tired of the road, and I've found a place to recluse myself from the rest of the world, if need be. So, since Dandelion has, surprisingly, offered me a reasonably fair boarding option, I'll stay here for now. Until I want to travel again, if ever I do."

Beryl leaned back in her seat, locking eyes with Lilith. "From your earlier statements, I believe I'm right in assuming you've seen, or at least, are intent on seeing, your fair share of the road. So, if the former is correct, permit me to ask, what places have you been to, so far, and how were they?" It was delightful to hear traveler stories, and even though Beryl was sure that her blue-eyed friend wasn't one for tall tales, stories of distant lands would be fun to hear.

I'm just going to go ahead and assume that your dialogue code got a little bit messed up and that she's not actually talking in third person. I'll edit if necessary. By the way, Lilith has blue eyes.

"I mean, scholar probably isn't the best word for it, but sure," Lilith replied to Beryl, silently take note of the green-eyed girl's use of the words 'as well'. She certainly didn't look much like an avid reader, especially considering the job she had just performed and the fact that she was a part of a seemingly pretty secretive mage guild, but as they say looks can be deceiving. Lilith had gotten in trouble quite a few times assuming things about people. She was not about to go down that route again intentionally any time soon.

It seemed that both girls were now finished with their ice cream, although the conversation continued nevertheless. Lilith was not too surprised by the fact that Beryl didn't travel much anymore, after all it could be quite a rough path to take at times. What she couldn't really understand was that the blonde-haired girl had chosen to reside in Dandelion. Even with a guild to lean on, the mage just couldn't imagine anyone being happy in the filthy city.

Still, she couldn't question the matter forever. In fact, Beryl had already posed one of her own, out loud, by the time Lilith came to the afore mentioned conclusion.

"I've been traveling for the past three years. I've seen most of the cities on the east coast of Fiore and some towards the north. I think my favorites so far have been Magnolia and Poinsettia. They're both very pleasant places full of nice people. Chrysanthemum and Tessera are pretty interesting too, just in terms of building design and the like. Both of them certainly tell a fascinating story," she replied enthusiastically. It was hard for her to pick a favorite out of the four, and now that she though about it there were certainly a few, well actually, a lot of places that could also qualify on her list. As long as it wasn't Dandelion, chances were the blue-eyed girl would enjoy her stay in any city or town.

OOC: Eek! Corrections made. Thanks. By the way, this post is a bit crappy, IMO. Sorry. Quite fatigued.

Of course, a story existed for everything, and as far as stories were concerned, Beryl most definitely had a reason for choosing the City of Smog over finer, nicer, more delightful places. An adage went, "to light a candle is to cast a shadow". It was most certainly more than the weather that kept the Seveni girl uninterested in finding somewhere else to call home. Many of the candidate places one could call home were ultimately quite free places, and one could be easily tracked and found there. Dandelion was a different matter.

The city was naturally mysterious, with a secretive atmosphere, brought on by the natural mists which usually blew in from the riverside. With the inclusion of the soot from Dandelion's factories, the created smog was quite a challenge. Automatically, anyone coming to Dandelion had the idea impressed on them that this was a city with many secrets hidden, and many much more which needed to be so. And in Beryl's opinion, life and sound mind were better than nice cityscape and pleasant people. Beryl wasn't happy, but she had made up her mind to accept it. Survival was key.

So Lilith had majorly been traveling east and north. Well, Fiore was actually a large place, so despite being constantly on the move for three years, it wasn't likely that one would explore all the places of interest in the east and north. Beryl had heard that the Glacial Flats alone could field teams of travelers for decades, and half of its treasures and secrets would still be unknown.

Concerning buildings, Lilith was right. Tessera was most certainly somewhere Beryl was interested in visiting. Although sometimes, there seemed to be too many things on her plate, the Seveni mage decided that she would eventually explore the city. Chrysanthemum was nice, but it had too many knights, and Beryl had her reservations with being in Fiore's police HQ. Maybe one day, she would plan on visiting Chrysanthemum and who knew the sort of fun she'd have.

"I think I've heard Tessera's story," the Earth mage said. "What's Chrysanthemum's?"

So Beryl was interested in Chrysanthemum. Or, at the very least, she hadn't heard too much about it. Certainly, Fiore was big, but Lilith was a bit surprised that the green-eyed girl knew the least about it out of all of the four cities she had listed. Then again, it didn't really seem like she was all too interested in Magnolia and Poinsettia.

Not really knowing how much Beryl knew on the subject, Lilith decided to start her informative at the top. "You probably know this, but Chrysanthemum's the base of the Knights of Fiore. Because of that, there's a lot of militarized equipment and outposts. They say it's the most secure city in the country."

The mage paused for a moment, thinking of what to say next. She also wondered for a moment what cities Beryl had seen. Maybe she could ask later on.

"The most amazing thing about the city are the walls surrounding it, in my opinion. They're huge, and have gates that are operated by monstrous machines. Not to mention legend says they're thousands of years old. I don't know if I believe that, since there's no wear and tear on their white surfaces, but it's a cool story even if it's not true. You can't see any of the city over them. Inside the walls Chrysanthemum's really well organized, with lots of different districts. It's pretty much the polar opposite of Dandelion, if you ask me."

OOC: So sorry for my delay. IRL issues and all.

Fact was, the major reason Beryl chose to ask about Chrysanthemum was simply because it was the last Fiorean city she imagined herself visiting, unless she had specific reason to travel there. There were quite a good number of cities Beryl wasn't too savvy about, however, if the winds blew favorably, and Fate dealt her a good hand, she was rather interested in having a feel of each one of the major cities in Fiore. The beautiful thing about being part of a guild as nonrestrictive as Nine Lives was that she wouldn't be held down from traveling by guild obligations.

All the same, simply listening to someone speak about a strange city was enough to almost trigger wanderlust in the Seveni mage. While her dark-haired acquaintance spoke about the headquarters of the Knights of Fiore as being probably the most impregnable city in Fiore, Beryl wondered whether the Boscan war had touched it. Fortunately, there were a number of places in Fiore which had not been ravaged by the war, and hopefully, would remain untouched. Remembering that the Knights were a good part of the reason some of Fiore was unscarred helped to make Beryl admire at least their bravery. That didn't mean she would start 'fan-girling' for them anytime soon.

The Earth mage had to chuckle when Lilith described Chrysanthemum as being the polar opposite of Dandelion. And quite an interesting comparison too. With its towering white walls and battlements, it served as a direct contrast to Dandelion's soot covered factories and dark, smog-infused skies. And that was aside the most important point Lilith raised, being the organization of the 'White City' with its well-defined sectors held behind sturdy walls, as opposed to the Dark City with its porous sprawl.

"Walls are a thing of beauty," Beryl mentioned, "though I admit I sometimes find them... oppressive, for lack of a better word. In any event, now that you mentioned the walls of Chrysanthemum as being reportedly indestructible, maybe I'd want to take a look at those walls for myself, and try sharpening one of my knives against the stone. I'm sure I'll get arrested for that alone...."

Trouble making aside, and that actually not being so much as a reason for Beryl's interest in the city's walls, due to the fact that the Seveni girl was an Earth mage, it was natural that stone would pique her interest. And speaking of magic, she wondered what powers exactly Lilith had at her disposal. That was, if she was even a mage at all. It was a likely assumption. Beryl, for her part, had been too occupied with her own caravan-keeping to know what her blue-eyed workmate had been up to.

"Soooo... if this doesn't come off as intrusive, what sort of magic do you use?" the Seveni mage ventured, deciding to stick with the assumption that Lilith possessed magic potential.
