The sound of splashing water echoed from inside the swimming pool in Magnolia. Emily was bored, as she was always bored, so she’d wandered down to watch the swimmers. There was something mesmerising about watching people swim. Although she’d never go so far as to find anyone attractive, there was something aesthetically pleasing about the semi professional and professional swimmers. Their bodies were lean and lithe and the lines drew her eye. However, she’d fixated on one of them for a specific reason. He was sharp featured with messy black hair and a rather relaxed demeanour. It was that laid back attitude that she found interesting. It might mean that he’d accept her starting to talk to him without instantly being suspicious. He was young enough that he might be manipulable and it was a start anyways. After doing some casual conversing with the other people watching, she found out that he was a minor league swimmer of some renown among the lower ranks of the professional swimming world. He was starting to gain a reputation as someone with skill and this gave Emily the opening she’d need. She’d waited until he emerged from the swimming pool to approach him. He came out into the sunlight and Emily decided to approach him. She sauntered up while he stood, blinking in the afternoon sunlight and smiled at him in what she hoped was a friendly way. It was the friendly smile she’d been practicing for a long time after having observed it on the faces of other people. “Hello! Sorry to just walk up to you like this but I couldn’t help noticing you swimming. Your name’s Erik right? I’ve been to a few of the competitions that you won. I was really impressed by your swimming. I guess you might say I’m a bit of fan. This is kind of embarrassing. Sorry! I should probably just let you get back to your day…” Either he’d respond to her or he’d rebuff her but either way Emily was happy with her opening gambit. |

Breath. 1 2 3 4 5 6 Breath. Erik focussed on his breathing, if he wanted to move up int he world of swimming he'd need to be able to hold hist breath longer. He had lost time due to his little vacation to Bosco (which had been horrendous and traumatizing, but hey he met a cool horse). He just wanted to get back to swimming for now, his life of adventure could wait. He wasn't at all ready to jump into the world of mages and monsters, the world of electric horses and licky tongue mutant things that will lick the skin off of your bones and not in the fun way. He finished his last lap around the pool, satisfied with himself he decided he'd go home and treat himself, maybe get a red bean bun when he stopped by the convenience store later that afternoon. He pulled himself up out of the pool, his hair falling into his face as he did. He walked forward, running a hand through it to get the mop of black mess out of his eyes. He heard a voice, but who would be talking to him? Nobody. So he kept walking, and walked right into Emily. The surprise of making contact with something, no somebody, made Erik panic a bit which made things worse. The bump would have been just that, a bump, but his sudden jerk of abrasive movement had caused him to lose his footing on the slippery pool deck and he feel forward into the nice young lady who totally wanted nothing more then an autograph from the D league swimmer. The last thing he saw before he fell was her smile, though he hadn't caught all of what she was saying, he had probably cut her off by accidentally tackling her before she could finish. "I'm.... sorry" Erik said from his spot on the ground, still trying to gather his surroundings. He was still wet, probably drenching the girl. Erik blinked down at her before making an effort to stand, shaking off the fall he offered a hand to the young lady. In silence he'd hold the hand out for her to accept it, his face a mix of concern and embarrassment. Hopefully nobody had a lacamera around... that's suck. |

Having suddenly found herself dumped on the ground, Emily also recovered quickly. In fact, she wished that she’d thought of the collision herself. It was a much better idea than what she’d planned and a small part of her was annoyed with Erik for having done this but there was plenty of time for messing with him later on. Right now, she had to play an appropriate role and so she took his hand. The ease with which he pulled her up indicated that he was strong and that might prove useful later on if she thought of a suitable purpose for him. She smiled in a vaguely embarrassed way as she looked at him. “That’s okay. Stuff like that happens when you’re standing around on pool decks. My name’s Emily. I know yours is Erik. I’ve been watching you swimming lately. You’re pretty good, so I thought maybe I’d get an autograph.” She looked at him and shook her head ruefully. “But look at you, you’re all wet still. Why don’t I wait for you outside the pool and you can sign my autograph book there? Is that okay?” The next step was going to be the challenge. Once she’d gotten the autograph, she still had to figure out how she was going to get him to stay around for long enough that she could get him involved in something interesting. Emily didn’t want to come across as a stalker or something but she had to find a way to hold Erik’s interest so that he’d want to tag along with her. However, for now, he still had to agree to the notion of signing his autograph outside of the pool. |
