I read some old school manga for my uni class last semester and I have to say, they were pretty amazing- albeit dark with noir themes. If you want a good thriller/drama then Ayako is a good shout, its long, capping in at around 500 pages and takes a good while to finish but man is it good. It takes place in the years right after WWII in Japan and follows this old landed elite family and how they basically fall apart in the new post-occupation Japan. Really dark but its a ludicrously good story. Abandon the Old in Tokyo is another good piece, its a collection of short story manga by Yoshihiro Tatsumi who explores a lot of twilight zone-esq situations. You might like it, they're easier to digest to and much shorter than most series. A good sci fi I always love is Akira, its a bit of a product of the times as well albeit later on- but its still a great book. all about psychics and whatnot, its equally long but in a few large volumes instead. An alternative is just watching the movie if your up for it. Edited by Ravendark, Jan 18 2017, 10:33 PM.

The Clockwork three is a REALLY good book that takes place in like the 1800s I think. It's about these three kids all from very different backgrounds, but all of their paths cross by some twist of fate. It's good and intriguing, the characters are very enjoyable. |

I'm only into the Fantasy section so here's my picks: Night Angels Trilogy by Brent Weeks He also has another series. I think the Lightbringer The last Stormlord and it's complete trilogy by Glenda Larke Anything Jennifer Fallon is by far fantastic. Another one I'm looking for: Dragon Knight series by Gordon R. Dickson. The first book is The Dragon and the George and can be found via that way as well. A good solid book amount right there Anything by Mercedes Lackey is good as well as James Mallor. A series I want to read from them is The Enduring Flame. First book is The Phoenix Unchained Another book I wanted to read was The Grim Company by Luke Scull Oh and The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks Norra Roberts is a big time Romance writer so that's all I got for that one. |

There is a distressing lack of Sci-Fi in this thread. The Expanse by James S.A. Corey Also. Dune. Edited by Marcat, Jan 19 2017, 01:43 AM.

Such helpful lovelies. I will compile a list and cross check with that we'be got/what we are allowed to carry (though most of these are not ones I run my finger over the spines of daily.) I will let you know when your selections start coming in. Feel free to keep adding in though. As for what's lacking elsewhere, it's really just a matter of what's been off the shelf for a while, or what's not super popular at the moment. So, like I said, if it's something you love and haven't been able to find lately, we probably need it. #MakeMyBookstoreawesomeAgain Edited by Inara Serra, Jan 19 2017, 11:25 PM.

I strongly reccomend, "The Story of Your Life" by Ted Chiang. It's a sci fi story about aliens coming to earth, but focuses on the language aspect and barely has any gun shooting action like most alien movies. |
