The Slumbering One

Learme finished reading the words, and one by one, the candles snuffed out. The smoke bent sideways, and moved towards the centre of the circle, swirling until it coalesced into a vague humanoid like form. It walked towards the man in the circle, kneeling down and flowing into his body. The man slowly stood, and loomed there, for a long moment. His lips curled in displeasure, and he looked down at himself. Then, with nary a warning, the body went slack and fell face forward onto the ground with a thump. The smokey outline dusted itself off, seemingly shuddering. "Oh bugger me, no. He had a hole in him, he was fat as the dickens, and I swear he was so dumb it was like trying to think through molasses. He also felt... greasy. I'm not sure how that's possible." The man, in response, drooled slightly. The shade sounded a bit posh, but rather androgynous. The figure looked around. "Oh, I see." It sounded a bit gleeful as it beheld the figures in robes. Turning menacingly, it looked at each of them in turn. "Why have you summoned me, yoooooou...." It stopped as Willow, then Learme came into sight in it's rotation. "Hmmph. You two actually look somewhat competent. Here I thought this was going to be fun. Fine, what is it." Learme's eyes were shadowed by the hood as he let his grin grow even wider. Somehow. The kid was like a Cheshire Cat, really. He slowly looked up, staring the creature in the general area where it's eyes should be. Then, he shrugged. "I dunno. Presumably these people had some purpose for this. They kidnapped me to do what that guy was for." He gestured at the prone man in the middle of the circle. "Also her. I'm not sure why they needed two. I suspect they accidentally got two due to poor communication. I was just getting annoyed by their incompetence, so I helped them out. Also, you know, I was bored." He shrugged again, and began taking some notes on the creature in front of him." The shade cocked his head. "You... co-opted a Dark Magic ritual, because... you were annoyed by the people doing it wrong." "Yes. That is correct." The implied crickets were deafening. |

Willow looked from candle to candle as the smoke moved towards the center of the ring. She swore her heartbeat was getting louder as she was not sure how this was going to end. Her red eyes looked from one man's face to the next and all had the same stupid look on: oh crap, this is really happening. Of course this was happening, why wouldn't this actually be happening? Did they honestly think that they could summon something and then have it not work? Actually she wouldn't have put it past them to do so so why was she so shocked that she saw them shocked? The smoke gathered in the middle and before you knew it, a shade had appeared, entering the body in the middle. Though, that didn't last very long. Maybe like about five seconds before he was out of the body again and looking at her and Learme. This was...well this was...painful. The shade didn't even like the offering that was in the middle of the circle so now they were going to have to deal with it. So it was at this time, Willow started to move on over to Learme as this shadowy smoke thing began to speak. It was Learme who spoke after, more or less explaining the situation at hand. "We both got annoyed at the situation. And to be honest, that one managed to burn himself on lighting the candle." With her weapon in hand, she pointed over to the man who was standing next to her. He quickly covered up his hand and got a bit offended. "It...I just held the match too long is all! It is a common mistake!" Willow wasn't going to reply back to that one. Just letting it slight. Back to the task at hand. "I stayed around just in case if they did summon something and it got too out of hand, I would put a stop to it. I am rather annoyed at the situation and honestly, I am shocked no one has passed out fruit snacks yet." Willow let out a sigh, placed a hand on her hip and just shut her eyes. They had done the ritual and the thing they were summoning had been summoned. So the real question was, was she going to stick around long enough to see this until it was through? Yeah. She needed to know what, if anything at all, these intellectual challenged men wanted from their now summoned Shade. And for that matter. Did the Shade now want to posses someone's body and then rule the world? She wasn't going to let that happened. She had enough problems to deal with at the moment. |

Snickering slightly at the burned man's misfortune, Learme looked up to see the shade... well, it looked like it was sticking it's hand in it's face. Realistically, it was probably pinching the bridge of it's currently unseeable nose. It was really a very rough approximation of a human shape, more like an outline than anything else. He'd say silhouette, but that wasn't quite accurate. Anti-Silhoutte? No, that sounded like some sort of weird magic. Not important. "Appreciate the backup, mate." He gave Willow a thumbs up, then focused on the plate being held in front of him. "Oh, Orange Slices! Nice. Thanks... Brendan? I think you said Brendan, before." The man nodded cheerfully, and moved over to Willow, leaning over to paint a corner of the circle that had been smudged. The shade looked quite annoyed by this. One of the cultists moved forward. "Oh shade! We have brought you forth from the nether regions to grant us this wish! We command you to help us return to life our leader, for he has died due to his unjust imprisonment!" The shade regarded the woman for a moment. "Why and how was he imprisoned." The woman spread her hands. "He was performing a ritual, and was caught escaping the blaze when the fire demon he was summoning went wild. The orphanage he was performing the ritual in did not survive, and they somehow managed to find him." Learme turned to look at Brendan, confused. The man shrugged slightly, and held up a note. "I just wanted to ensure they didn't hurt themselves. It wasn't really working." |

When the man, Brendan, had come over to them, he was giving out orange slices. Not exactly fruit snacks but might as well be some. That was it. Willow really had enough of this. She was done with all of this crap. "So...you are telling me that you kidnapped us, got us to summon this shade all because you had burned down an orphanage and got caught....you summoned a fire demon on an orphanage. Do you understand what you did?" She looked around at everyone here. Everyone. One by on she stared right into their very souls, taking everyone in. Did they not know what kind of mess they were in? Did they not understand what kind of problems were happening? "You all are cultist and you are attempting to help children? Help them? The type of people you are, you go out and kidnap people and kill them. With a fire demon. I get summoning the shade to maybe help bring your leader back. Points on that. However, the type of people you are, you should be killing us. WE got out of your bonds yet you don't bother coming after us?" This was insane. Purely insane She was going out of her mind surely. Why was she so upset that they were so bad at this? Why was she so mad that they couldn't even do one thing right? She turned to the Shade. "I have a wish. Could you make these people actually good at their own job? Maybe then I won't have to feel bad for walking away without any sort of injury other than my pride for getting kidnapped here in the first place." Maybe if that happened, she could do something about it. Maybe she could have a fight with them, kill them if needed, and then be on her way. Either way, she was walking away from the circle and lightly tapping her head against the nearest wall a few times. This was killing brain cells. |

The cultists might have answered. Learme might have commented. Any number of things might have happened in response to Willow's rant. Unfortunately, Willow had actually made a rather problematic comment. As she turned away, the Shade grinned. Learme rapidly backed up from the circle, but the majority of the cultists were not so lucky. The shade's smoke split, and flowed down the throats of everyone around the circle. The cultists stiffened, and then turned to face those that remained. Their eye seemed to be glowing, a smokey, cloudy haze covering them. They turned as one, and spoke as won. "I understand. Wish is granted." Learme slowly rotated, and stared directly at Willow. "I'm not mad, you understand. Just disappointed. I do hope you're ready for this." The various cultists picked up implements, including the knife they had dropped. Sighing, Learme placed his hands into his robes, and pulled one out, the top covered by an oddly folded gauntlet. Pulling the folds down, he pulled the zipper shut with his teeth as he began backing away, reaching into the robe to retrieve the other and pull it on in a similar manner. Spreading his fingers, he revealed himself to be wearing clawed gauntlets, the blade-like fingers giving him a slightly skeletal look. Music Start With a sudden glow, light traced over the robes, outlining Learme for a second. As it faded, he leapt forward, slashing at the nearest approaching cultist and hitting his side, knocking him to the ground with a cry. He was moving much faster now than he had been before, although not quite to a supernatural degree. Still, it was more than enough to take the group by surprise. Facing back, his eyes were glowing under the hood. "Heaven's Step." [Heaven's Step (+30 Speed) 1/3 Turns] |

So just kept smacking her head against the wall a few good times until she actually felt it starting to hurt. Wow, maybe she needed to stop. Normally she didn't feel pain but this was a different level all together. Maybe it was because she had known she was inflicting pain upon herself that allowed herself to feel it. Or maybe she figured she had hit her head enough times to warrant her body to say stop it and gave her a dulling pain in order to make herself stop. Regardless of why she stopped, she did. The way she had reacted might have been a bit over dramatic and out of character of herself but...they were really, really bad at this job. She thought for sure she was going to have to fight her way out of this. Her eyes opened when she heard a group of the cultists speak as one. Wish granted? What? Turning around quickly, she looked at the mess she had now just created and internally groaned. This was great. She had made a rather simple and easy situation to fix turn into a very dangerous and difficult situation to get out of. Groaning, she spoke. "I should have just walked away earlier." Outstretching her left hand, she had summoned Sol from her pocket dimension. Now she as wielding the twin swords Sol and Mani, each in their respective hands. Now that she was armed, the question was if she was going to kill them or not. It would be easier for her to do so then attempting to spare their lives...but even though she was in a dark guild, she wasn't exactly an evil person. Why was things just so much more difficult to deal with? Moving forward, she stepped in front of the cultist who held the knife, attempting to come and kill the man closest to him. Quickly and effortlessly, Willow blocked the attack with Sol. The man holding the knife sneered at her, revealing a set of pearly whites wow these guys kept up on their dental hygiene pretty well. Off to the side, she saw another going for a woman who just crouched down with her hands over her head thinking that maybe that would save her. Rolling her eyes, Willow spoke. "Ice's Edge!" Mani, the sword in her right hand, suddenly was covered in ice. With a quick motion, Willow cut the air in front of her, going from bottom to top, causing a 5m line of spiked ice (1m tall) to form; stopping the one cultist from attacking the crouching girl. Her attention went to Learme. "I could really careless if you are upset with me or not. At least now the half of them are somewhat doing their job. Just tell me if I can kill them or not. Or, tell me how to get rid of the Shade and stop this." One way, the situation was going to be resolved. Ice's Edge
