Fairy Tail Guild RP Current News

Hey everyone, it's me, your Lord and Savior, your Once and Future King, and your new Admin-for-Life Unlimit Sendo. I'm here to drop some turnbuckle-diving elbows and awesome news. There's been some relatively small updates to rulings regarding summon familiars and single summons. Additionally, there's also been a pretty big update in regards to the AP shop which reorganizes it and adds a ton of new stuff. You can find that in the AP Shop section under Item Creation. Check it out.

Apologies for short/late post.
------------------
Blinking in genuine surprise Hikaru felt himself having to look away after a few moments of seeing Beryl look bashful. If he had been flattering her it hadn't been insincere in the slightest, just speaking his mind perhaps without truly thinking. Now that it was out there he wasn't entirely certain how to proceed in no small part because seeing her act bashfully was very, very distracting. Doing his best to steady himself the swordsman put on his best cheery expression and managed to halfway bow without leaving his seat. "I was just reminding you of something you already knew, but you're quite welcome."

The longer her emerald hues kept staring into his brown eyes the harder it was to keep his cool, yet his own turbulent personal feelings aside he really was glad his ploy to distract Beryl from her troubles had paid off. The sound of her laughter filling the room was preferable to the quite looks of reservation from earlier any day and went a long way towards soothing his nerves. Hikaru was a very simple man in that respect, feeling a need to strive for the happiness of others where his efforts could make a difference. The key concept of course being where he could make a difference. Hikaru wasn't naive about his expectations, he reserved that for his hopes instead.

Raising an eyebrow he teased her gently. "Do you need to be cut off ice cream fiend? Some people just don't know when to call it quits." He nudged the mug aside about an inch as if going to take it away but left it there. He wasn't about to really try, that just screamed 'bad idea'. Instead he listened to her talk about her home with growing concern apparent on his face. "That... sounds like a place I'll have to go see eventually. Chaos and cults worshipping mad gods sounds like my kind of party to crash unannounced if you catch my drift. Although you'll have to forgive me for saying I don't know if it will be for business or pleasure that I'll be making the trip from what you're describing." He could tell Beryl felt strongly for the place; it was her home after all. He thought of her describing that abyss in the sky and shuddered. No sun. The very concept felt like something out of a horror story, or the priesthoods sermons of the end of days. "The sky certainly sounds interesting though... perhaps even beautiful in it's own way. It would be quite difficult to adjust to not having any sort of sun for however long I'm there for, I think more than anything else there that would be the most maddening."

With a sigh he sat in silence for a moment still feeling overwhelmed with her description. It wasn't going to change his determination to see beyond Fiore, but it sure as hell made Seven sound like a challenge he would not enjoy. Forcing a smile he shrugged trying to shake it off. "Tell me Beryl, have you got any plans for the rest of the night, or perhaps tomorrow? I've only been here for a day and it's rather difficult to see all there is to see in so short a time. Would you... be willing to show me around some more?" Finding someone he could connect to so easily was already hard enough, but when they were also as fun as Beryl was any time would be well spent if it was in her company. He had nothing better to do for the next week or so he had planned to spend in the city and someone who knew its ins and outs (while also being less likely to club him upside the head and take his stuff) would prove invaluable.

OOC: Short post. Really?

Beryl responded to Hikaru's nudging of her mug by grabbing it and clutching it tightly to her body. Since the container was no longer full, getting closer to empty, as a matter of fact, there was no fear of getting herself smeared with the sweet dessert. The expression on her face was one of mock hurt and annoyance. "Mine!" she wailed comically, before shooting the swordsman a mock reprimanding glare.

In any case, Hikaru seemed to express perturbation when Beryl described her homeland to him. She couldn't tell his reasons for looking worried, until he spoke about crashing cultist parties. "I'm not so sure cultist party crashing is a rather lucrative venture," the Seveni girl stated, replacing her ice cream mug on the bar. "As it were, some of them are actually quite harmless, but the most of them are... well, let me just say, not your model citizen's place to hang out."

She sighed. "Here's the worst part: the Seveni government, for the most part, turns a blind eye to the cultist activities, for two major reasons. Firstly, it doesn't have the military might to crush them all; some of these cults can raise armies of their own. And secondly, the cultists, or some of them at least, create the environment for tourism that Seven has. The country is heavily supported by tourism, and guess why people choose Seven to traipse about in. Humans are actually drawn to scary mysterious shit, even if it eventually leaves them irreparably scarred at the end of the encounter. So, you may be shocked, but there might be more than just nightmare-worshiping cultists to contend with, if you want to make Seven's 'religious tolerance' policy your problem."

When Hikaru mentioned the absence of the sun in Seven being most maddening, Beryl shrugged, playing with her dessert using her spoon. "After a while, you may get used to it. Besides, I hear that staring at the sky may not be the most maddening thing to do in Seven, but it's the fastest way to crack one's brain, and Heaven knows whether the brain cracking is temporary or curable."

Truthfully, Beryl was happy when Hikaru changed the subject, asking whether she had plans for the rest of the night, or the morrow. She shrugged again, although this gesture was more animated than the last one. "Dunno about tonight," the Earth mage intoned. "Responsible folks have their mamas telling them to be in bed soon, and I'm trying to be responsible. Well, to be honest, my plans for the night would be as follows: go home, have a shower, then gossip with my friends until I fall asleep. As long as something world-changing like an asteroid crashing on Dandelion doesn't occur tonight. Tomorrow, I think I might be generally free... but what would people say, seeing a damsel walking around with someone she just met the previous day? I shudder at the outrage potential."

The Seveni girl leaned against the bar, and smiled. "Joking aside, it's rare to see a decent person in Dandelion, even if he's not from these parts. I'd be happy to show you around... but I will not negotiate my gossip time."

OOC: It felt/feels short. Yes. Don't judge.

It was Hikaru's turn to laugh at the antics of his adorable fellow bar-goer. Holding his hands up to show he meant no further transgression he placated her with an amused smile. "Of course, of course. I would never dream of it." The look in his eyes would make it clear that couldn't be further from the truth and that Hikaru would in fact try to be a little s* at a moments notice if given the opportunity. He turned serious again quickly as she clarified the points about her home.

"My job as a whole isn't exactly lucrative, but if they're mostly harmless as you say then I would never hurt them. My abilities are reserved solely for those who seek to harm others." Scratching his head in annoyance he sighed. "Yet it sounds to me like the situation over there is far more complex than I can understand as of right now. For now I think it is suffice to say that should I ever go there, some 'interesting' results are likely to occur."

Glad to be past the subject Hikaru listened to what Beryl had to say about his request, although he wasn't sure how to read her response. The shock on his face should have been enough to spell it out for her but he finally managed to mumble out a few words. "Outrage potential? In Dandelion? I... I am at a loss for words." The swordsman was mostly being comical of course. Yet a part of him was truly confused that she had agreed, albeit in a very roundabout way, to spending more time with him. Hikaru wasn't used to making friends this easily, nor for them to be pretty ladies.

Coughing to hide his embarrassment he nodded. "Very well. I'll concede on the gossip time, but in turn I won't negotiate on walking you home. What would people say if the gentleman they saw you with didn't walk deliver you home safely?" He smirked as he teased her word choice from earlier. "We must always consider the outrage potential in this fine city."

"Do not misunderstand, my intrepid swordsman," the Seveni girl thought silently, finishing her ice cream while Hikaru mentioned that as long as the cults were harmless, they would get no trouble from him. Most of the cults, as far as she knew were anything but harmless; they just presented their best shoes when it came to foreigners, so that they could milk them clean and dry of the money which the tourists seemed all too eager to part with. And since the tourists were satisfied, who was complaining?

Of course, there were some groups who cared nothing for the activities of tourists, and executed their nefarious activities without fear of reprisal from the weakened government. These ones had heavy backing, whether from numbers, or even what passed off for the government in the local region, or worse yet, less natural, more eldritch powers. Such groups knew it would be quite unwise, unless one was powerful enough, to court their ire, and they had little in the way of restraint. If Hikaru decided to take a trip to Seven, Beryl was sure he would have his hands full.

Beryl was quite satisfied with Hikaru's reaction to her 'fear' of eliciting outrage in Dandelion. She chuckled merrily at the surprised expression on the man's face, and his reply. "Why the shocked look? This city has, despite all appearances, very high morality standards." The bartender stopped whatever he was doing and turned and looked at the Seveni girl, a look of confusion on his face. "I'm kidding, you incorrigible spoilsport," she said in mild exasperation, just before sliding off her stool and sliding the empty mug in the direction of the bartender.

"Well, since I can't argue with you on the matter of you walking me home, I guess I'll just have to tag along," the Earth mage said, stretching slightly. "As to what the people would say about you not seeing me off, well, I wager that there are two schools of thought concerning that matter. First school will berate you for being an absolute scamp and crass vulgarian, who couldn't take out time to walk a 'defenseless maiden' home. The second group will see you as a twisted opportunist with a number of ulterior motives behind your escorting me home. Well, they say we can't please everyone all the time. But I suppose our actions will be dependent on which public opinion we can live with."

Beryl looked at the timepiece on the far wall of the bar. "Ready to leave? Oh yes, this nearly slipped my mind. Being a stranger in these parts, you would be in need of a place to rest your head as well, yes? Well, this lovely establishment in which we currently stand has a little inn set-up upstairs, so I believe that should settle you problem of shelter, assuming the need exists." She turned to the bartender. "See? I'm advertising for you, and what do I get?" The bartender shrugged nonchalantly. "I'd have done it myself, but I was just wondering whether the 'walk you home' thing might have plans of graduating into something else, and my invitation of boarding here might spoil it."

Now it was Beryl's turn to be shocked, as her face colored. "Ignore him," she said to Hikaru, as she turned away from the chortling barman.

Hikaru couldn't help but be amused with the interaction between Beryl and the barkeeper, the two of them clearly being on good terms and perhaps having known each other for some time. 'Very high moral standards. Right. I'll be sure to keep that in mind,' he thought to himself sarcastically. Taking out payment for their food and drink he placed it on the counter as he made himself ready to leave. Should Beryl make a comment of it he would simply shrug as tell her with a playful wink "If it bothers you then I guess you'll have to get the next one. If you're quick enough."

Doing his level best to not be phased by the sight of her shapely body stretching casually Hikaru made a point of checking his sword sheath as if it had a speck of dust somewhere. Anywhere. Finally giving up he stood up himself and laid his hand on said sheath to let it rest there. "If my family could see me now letting either school of thought have anything to work with I'd get quite the earful. Seeing as I'm damned if I do, damned if I don't, and straight up damned if I somehow find a middle ground, I think it best if we simply don't care and do what we think is right."

Nodding slowly, Hikaru was glad Beryl had brought up the point about needing a place to sleep. While he was perfectly comfortable sleeping in a field if need be he'd much rather not have to when there were accommodations so near. Hikaru was about to comment on the offer and request that the bar/innkeeper keep such a room ready for when he returns when the man dropped the 'bomb' so to speak. The swordsman was stuck in a truly comical pose as his hand which had been slightly raised when he went to speak seemed to droop back to the floor.

Looking between the two of them like they were conspiring against him his eyes seemed to be silently asking if they were messing with the poor unsuspecting wanderer. Seeing Beryl's own blushing face Hikaru relaxed although only slightly, his heart threatening to burst from it's cage. Any more of this teasing and he was going to lose his mind. Chuckling nervously he tried to wave it all away as he spoke to the barkeeper. "Well I think I'll ask of you to keep the room ready just in case, something tells me the 'plans' might not work."

Not that I'd overly complain if they did.

Now it was Hikaru's turn to blush as the thought seemed to come out of nowhere. Tipping his hat slightly down to hide the embarrassment on his face he went to stand by the door as if eager to be on his way. Hopefully Beryl joined him soon because at this point Hikaru was certain the barkeeper was going to say something else that would make the swordsman unbearably uncomfortable. If she started to head that way he would offer her his arm like a proper gentleman with a pointed stare at the barkeeper as if to say 'See? Perfectly chaste and normal behaviour damnit.' Not quite looking at Beryl he tried to ignore the additional proximity should it happen. "Shall we?"

Beryl had started protesting against Hikaru paying for her dessert, but he had simply shrugged, and with a wink, the swordsman gave her leave to do the paying in the event of another scenario like this one occurring, provided Beryl was fast enough. The Seveni girl mirrored the Take Over mage's shoulder gesture and replied, "okay, whatever rocks your boat. I suppose I may have to steal your purse to achieve that next time though."

Concerning the barkeeper's outrageous statement, in Beryl's opinion, Hikaru seemed to manage it well, although the Seveni girl could guess that his chuckle had some embarrassed undertones. "Damn right the 'plans' WILL not work," she said in reply to Hikaru, although her glare was directed at the barman, who seemed unfazed with the amount of animosity Beryl had managed to condense into the unfriendly gaze.

"Just in case, huh? Well, they say Fortune favors the brave, so..."

"Another word from you, and you'll be favored if there's a single intact bone in your body by sunrise."

The man was silent, but his expression showed he was neither cowed nor bothered by the Earth mage. As Beryl approached Hikaru, he offered her his arm. She paused for a moment, but then took the proffered appendage. "Chivalrous. I suppose that's commendable, though I do hope you learned your chivalry from the proper channels," the Seveni mage said, not bothering to explain what she meant by 'proper channels'. The barman, for his part, took no notice of Hikaru's stare, while he offered a double thumbs-up gesture at the swordsman, with a toothy grin that spoke outrageous volumes, as the two prepared to exit the bar. Fortunately, Beryl's back was to the man.

"Gladly," Beryl said in response to the Take Over mage's latest question, as the two left the bar. The streets were more silent now, with hardly any human about, although there seemed to be a good number of cats, who took no notice of the two mages. Dandelion's perpetual fog caused the street lights to throw interesting shadows at the edges of vision. "Ironic how the world is," Beryl commented. "Some folks are starting their day, just as we end ours."

Hikaru very much hoped there would be nothing rocking his boat tonight. Today. Whatever it was. Rocking boats was bad right? Unless it was some sort of convoluted double-entendre that he was completely not prepared for... starting to see stars as he tried to over-analyse that statement Hikaru found himself in quite the predicament. Said predicament was unlikely to go away any time soon, for the more time went on the more serious it seemed to become. The fact of the matter was that if he forced himself to stop and think he could only conclude that he was undeniably quite taken with Beryl, and this posed a challenge he was not prepared for. Namely how to stop himself from fleeing from a force more frightening that a horde of demons, because seriously he would rather face that any day.

Seeing the exchange between Beryl and the as of yet still unnamed barkeep the swordsman had to wonder to himself just how well the two of them knew each other. The back and forth jabs seemed completely second nature to the pair, something that usually took time. Yet he himself seemed to have a decent rapport with her, and this was only their first meeting. Unless... oh gods. What if he only thought they were having a good time yet it was all horrible. Hikaru blanched at the thought. In all of his life he had never felt quite so rattled. His only reprieve was that Beryl's gaze seemed to be focused on their mutual acquaintance allowing him the time to snap out of it.

"Friends please. I'm sure I'll be back here before you know it, no need for you two to fight over me so." Attempting to break the conversation away from the awkward waters it was threatening to plunge into Hikaru was immensely grateful when Beryl decided to accept his offer, although having her question his motives did sting a little bit. There was no secret agenda, no grand scheme. For all he knew even what he felt was merely a spur of the moment brought about by their earlier adventure together, although this he doubted. His affection was not so readily given. Yet those feelings were not what all this was even about.

Pausing as they left the bar Hikaru turned to face Beryl with a very serious look upon his face. Struggling to come up with the right words he finally sighed and came right out with it. "Beryl, allow me to just say that as devastatingly captivating as you are I am in no way looking for anything more than what I have already told you for tonight. If my designs should change you shall be the first to know. I'll leave it for you to decide which channels I learned from, although I will caution you that most everything about said channels will likely be highly... archaic." Smiling apologetically Hikaru shrugged. "If I have offended you with anything I just said I apologise, suffice it is to say that I haven't had many dealings with outsiders. Feel free to tell me should I be out of order."

As they walked Hikaru did his best to remember the way they went so as to not get lost on his way home, that would be most awkward. The many small hunters of the night that littered the street paid no heed to their progress, although the same could not be said in return. He had heard many things of Beryl's guild Nine Lives. Were they so named because of the sheer volume of felines that seemed to practically come out of the woodwork in this city? Not that he found them disturbing in the slightest but for them to be this prolific was a curiosity.

"It is strange to me how people can spend their nights out for pleasure to be sure. To be on the night watch, ensuring the peace? That's one thing, it's a necessity. Yet out here and in every other city so many live out their days in the 'nightlife'. I have always wondered why that is." Genuinely puzzled Hikaru wondered out loud at the bizarreness of it all. What was it that they did in the darkest hours that could not be done when the sun was out? His mind immediately assumed the worst, but as he was finding out more and more that was often simply not the case. The indoctrination he had received for much of his life simply didn't hold true and that left a gaping hole in his knowledge which could only be filled with experience. "The only possible reason I can come up with is that there is a certain beauty to the night, but something tells me I am completely wrong on the matter. What do you think?"

Beryl was not in the least ungrateful to be out of the bar, with its too-forward bartender. Well, there was little that could be done about it; Dandelion wasn't a place which boasted of the most polite of manners, even if the place where the bar was situated was safer than most other places in the city blanketed in smoke. To hand it to the man, though, he seemed to be one of the more decent folks in the city, which was actually telling on the nature of its inhabitants. Or at least people had told Beryl he was.

Hikaru's response to Beryl's statement regarding his chivalry was somewhat surprising to her. She paused for a moment, still holding his arm, and studied his face, a mildly-questioning look on her face which became slightly more confused on seeing his serious countenance. Then she smiled, a gentle, close-lipped expression, as she turned her attention to the road before them. "Well, you are rather... strange, Hikaru." Realizing that the word 'strange' could have many connotations, and a good number of them not particularly attractive, the Seveni girl hastened to clarify herself.

"Don't misunderstand my use of the word," she quickly threw in, before he had a chance to question her choice of words, "I said you're strange, but I mean it in a good way. After all, that which is strange is simply something which one is not used to, right? For one such as I, who has come to see the general Dandelion denizen as almost the rule of thumb as regards human behavior, at least in this city, people like you appear and prove me wrong, to my delight."

She paused to inhale deeply, as a gust of fresh air blew across the street. "And no, I'm not offended by anything you've said. As a matter of fact, I must ask your forgiveness, for being cynical. I guess it's wired into me, some sort of paranoia. And, I can't help being naughty at times, but I'm not sure I'm penitent about that matter. In any case, for someone who hasn't had many dealings with outsiders, I must say you're doing quite well."

"Hmmm, the nightlife," Beryl intoned, mulling over her companion's words as he mentioned his opinion of some esoteric beauty of the night, though he was quick to consider his opinion unlikely. "As a matter of fact, I think you're right," the Seveni girl replied. "There is something beautiful about that which is dark and mysterious, perhaps because it is human nature to desire that which is beyond our comprehension."

Her eyes followed a grey cat, little older than a kitten, stalking something unknown in the shadows beyond. "But that is only half of the matter. To many, the light is too bright, revealing, unsettling, because it has nothing to hide, nor does it give any such possibilities. I think many love the night because they may do the dark desires of their hearts therein, and hope to neither be seen, nor called to book."

Her expression had become serious now. "That is why darkness is associated with evil. And thus the world needs those who can plunge into the dark, without having it stain their souls, to root out those whose hearts are tainted by shadow, and bring them to justice. Because darkness will never rest, until all light is extinguished."
