To say that Dandelion was a very different locale from what Hikaru had grown accustomed to was ah... a very large understatement. In his travels thus far the wanderer hadn't had much chance to explore outside of Mizhou, and what he found here in comparison deeply disturbed him. Yet at the same time he was glad he had he had come. Now he knew it was here, and he knew it needed... something. What exactly that something was only time would tell, but the thought of things staying the way they were bothered him.

Just barely half a day in and he had already thwarted two separate pickpocket attempts on his meager funds, with a third that was very nearly successful. After initially managing to get away from Hikaru, the unfortunate soul who had decided to steal from the half-fiend found himself happily counting the loot he had pilfered to the heartening tune of clinking coin... at least until a pair of glowing red eyes in the shadows made itself known, the sound of something scraping on stone dragging itself closer and closer until the thief passed out of fright. Occasionally the transformation had it's perks.

All that in broad daylight. Hikaru couldn't help but wonder just how bad it got at night, although to the city's credit thus far no one had actually tried to hurt him. As night slowly grew closer so too did he wander deeper into the city. Perhaps it was just his imagination, but under cover of night everything took on an even less pleasant appearance. Still, if he was looking for an easy outlet for some straight up vigilantism this was the perfect place right?

Before too much time had passed it seemed like he was going to get his wish; coming from an alleyway up ahead were muffled agitated shouts. Sprinting forward as quietly as he could to assess the situation before jumping in, at first all he could see were shadows on the walls cast by whoever was making all the noise. As he turned a corner he could finally make out what appeared to be a group of three assailants crowded around a fourth, who was curled up in a ball on the ground mainly trying to protect his head and vital organs.

A flare of anger, white-hot and insistent, shot through Hikaru as he watched the scene play out. Fighting the urge to simply run them through with his sword, he left it peace-bonded to its sheathe. There would be no death today if he could help it. Pulling out his bow instead and stashing his staff behind the corner, the wandered fired off a warning shot just to the left of the group and then notched another arrow to the bow. As the arrowhead flew past them and struck stone the three standing up turned to face him, at first alarm and then upon seeing only one man scrutiny apparent on their faces.

In a calm and level tone Hikaru chided them. "Now now, you shouldn't play so rough. You never know when an accident might happen, people could get hurt." Sneering, the leader of the trio started to step forward only to find the bow leveled directly at him. While it seemed to temporarily give him pause, he clearly felt the cards were in his favor. Adapting a sleazy smile, he replied as he gestured at the two men at his side. "I think clearly there's been some kinda mistake sir. Me and my boys here, we just want ta get what's due us. Sometimes people forget they gots ta pay up. Now... perhaps you should take your own advice and mosey along before yew get hurt, eh?"

His eyes flickering from one man to the next, Hikaru took a small step back and relaxed the bowstring as if conceding the point. The resulting smirk on the leaders face was short-lived however, as the stranger who had so rudely interrupted their "business" suddenly sent the second arrow flying towards his legs. Front that close range, if Hikaru was more of a crack shot his target would be more or less out of the fight. Unfortunately his skill with ranged weaponry was his least practiced, and it was mostly dodged with only a minor wound opening up. Running behind the corner where he had hidden his staff just moments before he turned on the men who were now pursuing him and got a solid hit on one of them right in the face. The satisfying CRACK that followed brought a grim smile to his face.

The third man who had been right behind the first managed to duck behind the falling body of his partner and grab the staff in both hands, initiating a tug of war that threw Hikaru off balance. Meanwhile the leader himself finally caught up and had drawn a slender ornate dagger, slashing wildly at Hikaru's hands and arms. Rather than dealing with the strength contest that he might not win anyway Hikaru's leg snapped forward into a swift frontal kick while simultaneously letting go of the staff. While this managed to successfully send the goon into his leader and throw them on the ground, it also left Hikaru with no weapon other than his sword.

As he contemplated his next move the three got up and closed in on him, bruised in body and ego but hell-bent on ending the infuriatingly calm looking bastard who had knocked them about. Hikaru's eyes flashed red. There was no other option left.

Dandelion, with all its attendant moral squalor. Beryl had never thought a place as seedy as this could end up becoming her base of operations. But due to the fact that she had found a home (for the meantime, hopefully for as long as possible) in the guild known as Nine Lives, this was where her roost had been established. Of course, getting living space on the guild grounds was much more preferable to finding boarding out in a city where Beryl wondered if anyone had morals.

To be honest, the city frustrated her; it was like being in a practical class where the subject matter was learning just how messed up humans were. And the Dandelion folk weren't disappointing one bit. They were governed by selfishness, and everyone of them was a thief. In the latter vice, Beryl figured she was as damned as they were, since she was not bad at pilfering, herself. However, Beryl's argument was that she stole from those who didn't need it. What she did with her stolen wares, however, were her business, but she had long since learned that charitable deeds in Dandelion were more likely to leave you with two gaping holes over your chest: the first being your mouth, and the second just below it, engineered by a blade. And those you'd tried to help wouldn't even give a single *expletive inserted* about your death.

Then again, Dandelion had its good sides, like the mists that came in from the sea, the atmosphere of danger at every turn, and the Nine Lives guild. Why an interest in danger should be a turn-on was anyone's guess, but Beryl had had her fair share of scrapes in Dandelion, and had made toasts to a future of many more successful ones. And tonight, if her eyes served her correctly, there was a potential scrape in the making. From her perch on a low roof, Beryl could make out a number of forms; one lay on the ground, another seemed to be scuffling with three men. Hardly fair, but what was most noteworthy was that it seemed that the single fellow seemed to be trying to defend the hurt bloke. Very rare indeed.

At any rate, things seemed to be degenerating, as the men all seemed to be drawing weapons. The outnumbered one had a sword, for that matter. Beryl was of a mind to mind her business, but then again, the wilful closing of one's eyes while people died when you could have done something about it left a sour taste in Beryl's mouth. And from the look of things, it seemed magic was about to be involved, as an ominous red light sprang from the swordsman's eyes. Gathering herself and leaping silently from the roof, the men would just be alerted to her as she landed between the approaching three and the swordsman.

"Now now," she said in a soft, placatory tone, "I'm sure there would be a lot less frayed tempers and broken noses, if we all used our pleases and thank yous. And that poor man lying there; he's obviously hurt. Doesn't anyone have the decency to see to his injuries?" The apparent naivete of the Earth mage was merely a ruse; she had already assessed what was going on, and she knew on whose side she'd fight, if it had to degenerate into a full-blown fight.

A part of her hoped it would.

Normally Hikaru preferred to avoid any use of his magic if possible, reserving its use for those unlikely to see the next day. It was the same as with his katana. He had been trained from a young age to respect the weapon, and outside of a controlled training environment putting his hand on it was tantamount to announcing an intent to kill. Magic, weapons, everything was a tool, and tools that were misused could harm the user or those around them.

So when he prepared to use his Takeover magic, the Kagetaiyo had made peace with himself over the fact that these men were going to die. Either they would, or he would die trying. It was a good feeling, that certainty. Up until then he had been struggling with the idea, fighting with his own code. Now though, now with little choice if he wanted to win this fight and two lives hanging in h balance there was no question as to what course of action to take. At least, that was the case for all of three seconds.

That was when she showed up. Silent, graceful, and… totally right in the way. It was clear the thugs had no idea how to react at first, looking to their leader in the middle for guidance. Using his abilities on these thugs was one thing, but using them in front of an “innocent” left a sour taste in his mouth. Before the Primo thug had a chance to open his mouth Hikaru cleared his throat.

“Well, we’ve certainly had our fun. And perhaps, having a fight in front of too many witnesses isn’t in anyone’s best interest, ne?” Walking forward and attempting to position himself between this newcomer and the thugs, he offered his hand to the man in charge to shake while shooting a “back the hell off before I have a hostage situation on my hands” glare over his shoulder at Beryl. Having no real way to gauge just how much stronger than him she actually was, all he had to go on was her demeanor and presentation. Of course, even if he knew everything about her this was still his fight. Asking for help was something he simply had no idea how to do.

Unfortunately for him (or fortunately depending on how you looked at it), It seemed like the thugs weren’t particularly interested in peace talks. The little “big guy” took one look at the proffered hand and grimaced, giving a nod to both men at his side. With mocking grins they shuffled forwards, reaching with grimy hands to grapple Hikaru down. With a sigh, the wanderer resigned himself to the reality of the fact that some people just didn’t want to keep all their organs on their insides. Accepting the fact that there was going to be at least one witness to his magic Hikaru surged forwards with his improved speed. Able to side-step one of the men and trip up the other he now found himself dead centre of the trio once again. That was, hopefully, the cue for this new mage to book it.

The swordsman seemed unwilling to fight when Beryl arrived, which she found odd. He had seemed ready enough with his sword unsheathed until she arrived, at which point he had attempted to sue for peace. As he stepped forward and offered his hand to the leader of the thugs, Beryl noted that he flashed her a dangerous look. He probably wanted her out of there before fists, and from the looks of it, blood, began to fly. She replied by grinning at him and waving gently. Certainly not the gesture the man would have wanted to see, but at least it would pass across the message that Beryl had no intention of leaving anytime soon.

At any rate, the swordsman had little time to watch the apparently clueless antics of bystanders, as the thugs scorned his offer for peace and moved in to grapple him. With a speed which seemed quick for his initial movements, the man had done some dodging and tripping of his opponents, leaving them angrier and more intent on clobbering him. For his own part, he had positioned himself in their midst, which wasn't a very lovely place to be in a battle, unless one was super-aware of their environment, or actually enjoyed being creamed on the back of the head. Of course, as she had expected, everyone there who was still in control of a greater part of their senses assumed the young woman was going to factor little to nothing in the outcome of the fight. Hopefully, that was not to be the case.

The goon directly behind the swordsman, which placed the goon between him and Beryl, seeing that his opponent's eyes were focused on those before him, drew back his hand to strike. Beryl took that as her cue to act, stepping up unexpectedly and grabbing the man's wrist. While Beryl was sure she didn't have the physical strength to outmuscle her selected opponent, her knowledge of the workings of the body, coupled with her martial art skills made that disadvantage rather mitigated. To prevent the man from providing resistance, which he would instinctively do, as she reached up to grab his wrist, her right knee crashed into his side, causing his head to bend in the direction of the attack. Quickly grabbing his shirt with her hands, Beryl kicked one of his legs, immediately following up by putting her weight into one solid push.

The result was that he went head-first into the alley wall, with sufficient force to keep him satisfactorily out of combat for a while. "Just stay there a moment, there's a dear," the Seveni girl cooed, as she turned from the man's prone frame to face the three men whose attention, or at least some of it would be on her by now. "First off, I'd like to say that it's rude manners to ignore a girl at any time, so let's try to keep it civil, boys. That being said, I think this fight looks fairer now, doesn't it?" With that statement, the swordsman would be aware that he wouldn't be alone, when the fight began.

Still, there were a few things Beryl intended to have ironed out. "Just so we're clear, I prefer less messy encounters," she said stepping up beside the black-haired warrior, so that the two of them were facing the two goons, "so I'd rather you used your sword a lot less today. Unless you're the kind of 'I really must kill someone' sort of bloke, at which point there's probably going to be one of those events aptly described by the wise men of our era as 'human excreta being introduced to ventilation systems'."

Beryl could see that the goons were rather uneasy now The leader seemed to be trying to make up his mind on what to do next, while his sidekick kept looking from the two mages to his boss and back.

"Running away might be a rather splendid idea. Don't worry, I won't go telling your mamas."

Having gotten himself into the thick of things once again, Hikaru was relying on the added durability his magic offered him to shield him from the worst of any attacks. As Beryl took out his attacker with practiced ease he was busy dealing with the remaining two. One was picking himself up off th ground where he had fallen while the head goon closed the distance and tried his level best to shiv Hikaru. The rusty blade was poor quality, but that a blade between the ribs was usually just as effective if it was top of the line or bottom rung.

...as...

Hikaru slowed down visibly as concern made itself apperent on his face. This encounter had riled up his emotions more than he cared to admit, something he had to keep in consideration. He needed to calm down, or risk doing something he might regret in anger. While he was distracted the leader used this moment to slash down, now too close for him to fully avoid. Dodging to the side the front of his shirt opened in a long line as the knife sliced through. The momentary look of victory on the leaders face turned to confusion and then frustration as he saw the chain underneath.

vras...

Shaking his head as if to clear it, Hikaru adapted a loose stance as he glanced over at Beryl. Having shown that she was a capable fighter in her own right he no longer felt the need to chase her off. After all it hadn't been a misplaced sense of chivalry that had made him want her gone in the first place but a very real concern of an unknown variable, namely her ability to take care of herself. Now with seemingly aligned goals and no longer having to worry about her it seemed like the fight was already over.

"I certainly hope you don't think I was ignoring you little miss." He gave her a small wink to show he was teasing, although the deeper rumbling of his voice in this form didn't really lend itself to playful banter. "I would NEVER do such a thing. And as you can see, my blade remains bound. I wouldn't dirty it on such lowlifes." Turning to face the remaining two assailants he continued. Thankfully while this form wasn't exactly great at making friends it was quite excellent at intimidating the 'human excreta' out of his enemies. "Although if pressed I have other ways to introduce these two to their Maker."

VRAS- 'SHUT UP!'

Hikaru bellowed in his mind, his eyes flashing dangerously at the thugs as he wrestled with his inner demon. Although it wasn't what he had set out to do, the darker part of him was out for blood. Perhaps sensing this and deciding that saving face wasn't worth his life, the leader deflated visibly and started backing away. Without him there to edge him on the other thug wanted none of whatever it was Hikaru and Beryl were selling, and in a few moments they were alone with the growing count of unconcious bodies.

With a sigh the swordsman wordlessly went back to the body of the original victim, quickly scooping up his equipment on the way and efficiently stowing it before he got there. There was a chance he would have to move quickly to get this man medical attention, he didn't get a good look at his condition before the fight started. As he assessed the situation he wasn't sure what to think. The man was knocked out and his wounds didn't seem that great, but there was always the risk of hidden injury he couldn't find.

Focusing his Ki into positive energy he mixed in a burst of negative as raw fuel for the spell and laid his hand on the man's forehead. He turned to Beryl and spoke softly as he started the healing process. "If you're here to help I have my own conditions. There won't be any... excreta hitting ventilation systems if you don't comply, but I will have to deny your assistance. This man needs medical attention beyond what my magic can provide, we need a place to take him to be treated. We take him there, and the story is you did the rescuing and I merely helped carry him here. My name is Hikaru, I'm a traveler that's simply passing through and I happened across you helping him there. Understood?"

"I'm glad you weren't ignoring me," Beryl replied, a half-smile appearing on her face, elicited by the swordsman's wink, "although the term 'little miss' may be enough to provoke protest." But the Earth mage wasn't annoyed about being called little; she'd made peace with the fact that most people her age had left her behind in the height race. Well, on the flip side, it seemed this fellow was not interested in ripping out the throats of the lowlifes who currently were squaring off against himself and Beryl.

A few things happened next that Beryl wasn't totally sure she could explain, but at any rate, it seemed, and most fortunately for everyone present, that the leader of the goons was not eager to continue fighting, having failed to injure his opponent, whose undergarment of chain mail had prevented blood from being spilt. At any rate, Beryl was sure that the goons had felt something like killer intent vibes emanating from the mysterious swordsman, and they had decided to make themselves scarce. "That was wise...."

As the man gathered his things and moved over to the first victim in the alley, Beryl walked up and seated herself comfortably on the fallen body of the third thug, who was still having sweet dreams that would probably translate into a lovely headache when he came to. His fault, really. She said nothing as the fellow, who introduced himself as Hikaru, spoke, until he asked whether she understood. "No. As a matter of fact, I don't," the Seveni girl replied, giving the traveler a mock petulant grimace. "Why do I have to look like the troublemaker? You're the one who did most of the fighting." Her expression brightened. "Although to be honest, I'm all for you doing all the carrying, thank you very much, Hikaru. I'm Beryl, by the way. Pleased to meet you."

Rising from the body of the street thug, Beryl pointed into the distance. "I know a place not too far from here; it's a clinic... as far as clinics go, I suppose. But I think the folks there can patch our friend up good. So when you're done, I'll lead the way."

Beryl would wait until Hikaru was ready to move the victim, then she would begin to walk. "So, you have healing powers? Forgive me if I'm being nosy, but your physical form doesn't look so Dr. Goodfellow with the horns and talons, I sincerely beg your pardon. How does that work, if you're willing to talk about it?" There was a pause. "And next time, wink at me with a cuter face, thank you." That last part was spoken in jest, and Beryl ensured her tone of voice portrayed that she was joking.

Hikaru couldn't help but crack a smile at the sight of Beryl casually sitting on the defeated bundle that was her 'victim'. She was so nonchalant about it, yet the thug looked like he was easily twice her weight. Still, it was clear she was planning on being difficult. The swordsman fought back the urge to roll his eyes at her theatrics. "Because the less people know about me the more easily I can get away with surprising them." It was partially the truth. Mostly the truth even. Yet even as he said it he was questioning it's validity. Was he only asking for it because that's what the elders expected of him?

"And besides, you're more likely to be thanked than marked a troublemaker here. Plus last time I checked only one of us actually knocked someone out." He smiled disarmingly. He had her there. Picking up the injured man he carried him carefully out of the alleyway and towards where Beryl had pointed, smiling smugly at her over his shoulder. "I've done all I can from here, we should head out. Of course I'll be doing the carrying. You did all the hard work earlier, remember?"

He wasn't sure what to expect would come next with Beryl, but a moment of silence wasn't it. Needless to say she didn't disappoint. Hikaru mulled over her question for a moment, which apparently was a moment too long for she was already launching into a joke. Looking at her in mock indignation he shook his head and raised his eyes to the heavens as he muttered just loud enough for her to hear. "Just what's wrong with my face? Isn't it devilishly handsome enough?" Turning his back as he kept walking ahead of her he had to stifle a laugh and struggle not to drop the poor man in the process.

"Is this cute enough for you?"When he next looked at her the transformation was gone, and he offered her another wink. He smiled and shrugged after waiting to see her reaction. "If not, then too bad. It's all I've got to offer. How much further?" He had made a point of ignoring the question she had asked out of habit, but for some reason felt it nagging at the back of his mind. After all she seemed more than decent, especially considering she lived in a city of thieves and cutthroats. The least he could do was play nice.

"You're right, I did look kinda scary didn't I? But look at me now. I'm not so bad am I? Maybe a little rough around the edges, but that's what life on the road does to you." He held up one hand and produced a faint white aura around it, residual energy from his earlier transformation.

"The process is achieved through manipulation of my Ki. I have an abundance of negative Ki by default, but I have trained my body to also have an abundance of positive Ki. It's far from perfect,' thinking back to the moment a few minutes ago where he had almost been overpowered by bloodlust and suppressing a shudder. "But it works. My clan and I, we can contribute to society. Believe it or not my people were once called the Children of the Sun, Hîn-o i Anor in our native tongue. Before there was Darkness, there was Light...'

Shaking his head feeling awkward at what he felt was rambling he gave Beryl an apologetic smile, rushing to change the subject. "So then. I have to ask, do you always travel by rooftop or is it only when you need to make an entrance?"

Beryl was glad when, the next time Hikaru winked at her, his face was normal. That was a lot more acceptable. If anything, the man with the glowing red eyes, horns and killer intent was way below in aesthetic value than the fellow she was currently looking at. The Seveni girl smiled back and nodded. "That is infinitely better," she commented. "I think you have nice eyes, by the way. Oh, I mean now, not half a minute ago."

The question of how much further could be put on hold for the moment; the clinic in question was not at all far away now. Besides, Hikaru was answering her question about his magic. He talked about ki; Beryl had come across the term, but she wasn't totally certain of what it was. Perhaps another name for magic in a foreign concept. He talked about negative and positive ki, and mentioned the potential of his clan to contribute to society. Then he seemed to begin talking about what sounded like the clan's basic philosophy, before he suddenly stopped; the look he gave Beryl suggested to her that he probably felt he was talking too much. Then he asked whether Beryl was fond of running about on roofs, or was just trying to be sensational in her entrance.

"That will be answered later," the Seveni girl replied. "For now, here's our stop." The clinic was a simple establishment, but the smell of antiseptics was strong in the air, once one got close to the door. Leading the way in, Beryl walked up to the nurse seated at what passed off as the reception table, and simply said, "we found a casualty nearby. Could you please help him out?" So saying, she dropped some money on the table and added, "he'll pay whatever balance remains, if you keep him alive." The nurse looked at Beryl, then at the money, then at the guild symbol on her hip and simply nodded, before ringing a bell. Some men came out of the interior of the clinic to relieve Hikaru of his burden, whom they placed on a stretcher and wheeled off.

That being done, Beryl simply left the clinic, expecting Hikaru to do the same. "So, what was with all the worrying, you worrywart?" she teased, placing her hands on her hips. "Dandelion is full of, what word did you use back then, troublemakers, so seeing someone helping another will lead most folk to assume he's nothing near a troublemaker. I'm afraid that even if you robbed that poor chap and brought him here, the clinic staff would still expect you had saved him. Welcome to Dandelion, honey."

Suddenly jumping to catch a pole curiously extending from a wall, Beryl used it to swing acrobatically onto a wooden ledge nailed conveniently to the same wall, as though it was meant for being jumped on. "As to your question about mt traveling on rooftops, you'll find the answer if you follow me. I'll show you one of the best parts, being at the same time, one of the worst parts of the city: the Thieves' Highway. Come on!" So saying, Beryl began running and jumping along the ledges, hoping Hikaru would follow. She didn't move too fast, so he would be able to follow, unless he wanted to tail her below, which was still possible enough. One who was new to the city would not have the easiest of times traversing the 'Highway'; Beryl herself was far away from mastering it, but this was, for her, another training session.

"So, where are you traveling from, and where are you going?"

Hikaru blinked in confusion as Beryl complimented his eyes. "I uh... you... too?" Pushing past his initial embarrassment he added with a little more self-confidence. "I mean thank you, that's just a little bit unexpected." There was another pause, and the he hastily added a bit more. "Especially from a beauty such as yourself." Smooth HIkaru. Real smooth. He smiled and wordlessly shook his head at the comparison to him a half minute ago, as if amused. That really couldn't be further from the truth though, as that was a part of him that he wasn't entirely comfortable with. Yet another reason he tried to limit his use of magic. The less he had to think about it the better.

Arriving at the clinic he took a look around at his surroundings, finding them to be a good deal different from what he had seen of the city so far. Of course he had expected a settlement this large to have a medical center, but he had thought it would be a good deal seedier than this. Sure it was still a little shifty looking and Beryl's interaction with the nurse wasn't exactly what he would call the epitome of good practice but it was a far cry from "shiv or be shived" that seemed to be this cities motto.

Handing his charge over and following his new acquaintance he looked troubled as she teased him. "It's less that I don't want to be branded a troublemaker, and more that I don't want to be branded anything. Attention, whether it's for praise or to form an angry mob that will chase after me, is not something I believe in. Better to let others have the spotlight, and let me operate in obscurity." He shrugged and leaned against a wall, clearly dissatisfied about something. It was this whole code thing. He honoured it, kept to the teachings as best he could, but at the end of the day he couldn't help but wonder if they weren't better served getting the recognition they deserved. Gathering support. Getting help in their conflict. Then again this right here was exactly why he was in self-imposed exile.

He couldn't help but snort at her casually calling him honey. She was nothing if not informal this one. It was in it's own way refreshing coming from the mountain of decorum he was used to. Raising an eyebrow questioningly as she all of a sudden started doing acrobatics along the wall, his eyes followed her path and began to make out some of the architecture that had previously escaped his gaze. Finding the "highway" on his own would have taken far more than just the half a day he had spent here, but once she showed it to him he couldn't help but admire it's elegance. The Kagetaiyo had something similar back home, although it was through a mountain pass and not a metropolitan area. Using his magic, carrying that much dead weight, and now parkouring around the rooftops like a hooligan with what was no doubt unstable ground beneath his feet? It was master Amon Sul's training course all over again. Accepting his fate he did his best to match her pace, suspecting she was holding back slightly and uncertain if he should feel thankful or irritated.

While not quite as colourful as her ascent, Hikaru was quite used to scaling walls. Moving into the shadow of the ledge his eyes quickly picked out cracks, protrusions, anything his fingers could hold onto. In a moment he had made his way silently up to join her. "I'm beginning to sense that in this city you can't have the best without the worse." It was a simple observation, but once he made it the swordsman couldn't help but make another. He had set out to find the worst the city had to offer, and while he doubted he had found it he certainly managed to rummage through and dispose of some garbage. In the process though, he had found something, or someone at least, quite interesting.

"Short answer? Coming from Mizhou, going nowhere in particular until I must return. I have some time until I am needed again and my knowledge of the world is sorely lacking. Did you know that people breathe in fire for fun?" He shook his head as he thought of the pipe smoking man he had met on the road. "Madness."

"That's a wise enough comment, Hikaru," the Earth mage said, nodding her head slightly as the swordsman commented on it being impossible to get the best and avoiding the rotten stuff, "but in my opinion, Dandelion is merely a microcosm of the world. Even though there's a lot of... junk, as far as people are concerned, this place is reality. The large pretty cities, with all their sentries in polished armors, and people dressed like peacocks-- I wonder how most of them can move wearing such tapestries-- all those are illusions in a way. Dandelion shows what humans are like truly, when they've been pushed to the wall by society. You find anybody who grew up here and yet managed to turn out to be a good person, that person is an angel."

From his words, Hikaru was what many folk in Dandelion would call 'simple'; someone who was used to human behavior perhaps in a rustic, or more traditional setting, and hadn't been exposed to the 'outside world'. As it were, the fellow seemed to have decided to go on a journey on his own to see the world, and perhaps discover something about himself, which was a good thing; ignorance in any form was useless. But there were risks to have in knowing too much as well. Just like traversing the Thieves' Highway, in most, if not everything in life, balance was key. Always.

With a leap, Beryl crossed a little space of nothingness, and landed gracefully in a crouching position on a wall, where she paused. "Breathing in fire for fun?" the young woman asked incredulously, looking at him with a half-suspicious, half-confused expression on her face. Seeing that he had a relatively serious expression on his face, Beryl stared at him in utter surprise. "Wait, you're serious, right?" She paused a moment, wondering what exactly the swordsman had seen, before her mind offered a suggestion. "Wait, whoa! Did you see a Dragon Slayer?" Beryl had read about these esoteric mages and the only thing she was sure of about them was that they could eat elements. So maybe the fellow Hikaru had seen was one of such. Beryl knew that the guild master of her guild was one of such, although she'd never met him before. But that wasn't the only reason she wanted to meet her guild leader.

"Anyway, I haven't ever been to Mizhou, although when I save up something, I'll probably go on a tour there. But tell me how the place is like. Is it fun? Lively? Or drab like here? All that, after the Dragon Slayer. Did you see him use his magic?"
