His outward expression was expected; she had seen it before. Once they heard that bit of information, most people instantly became defensive, mentally anyway. In such scenarios, Avera often felt a twisted sense of disappointment that she couldn't outright read minds. At least, she could analyze emotions... and the emotions from Learme were quite the opposite from what he outwardly showed. In fact, he seemed quite excited about it. With a gentle laugh, she answered: "Don't get all worked up yet. It's not as awesome as all the stuff I've heard. It is a mix of the telekinesis-telepathy outfit, yes, but it seems some things are still missing from the box." It was funny, the way he was talking without pause... much like herself when she was excited. Maybe that was how intelligent people normally behaved. He also struck her as a pragmatic person; he wanted information from her, so he was willing to give out some of his. Tit for tat, as some would say. She could oblige him, at least to some extent. "So, you're some sort of chronicler, I assume. That would explain why you have such information based magic. At least, it doesn't drive you crazy, literally. That's one pretty nice thing about my magic, you see? Slowly..." she pointed at her temple and moved her finger in a slow, rotating motion, to pass the message across, but she did not show that she was bothered about it. In fact, she had this big grin on her face. "Besides that, I suppose I'm still getting the hang of the magic, but for now, my telepathy is mostly limited to emotions. I'm not a mind reader... yet. In response to your previous question, it was more of having a mental radar than reading your thoughts that you were trying to get my attention. I must say that the radar doesn't work all the time, and depending on some circumstances, doesn't pick up everything I want it to." Like now. Of course, Avera did not tell Learme that she had been reading his emotions with her Personal Space; that was the only reason she was this cordial in the first place, since it seemed like they were kindred spirits of a sort. And as was usually the case, when she concentrated her powers on someone like how she had done just now, her 'radar' usually switched itself off for a while. Which was why she did not see, or more accurately, sense the wielder of the crumpled beer can, before he threw his junk projectile at Learme's face. He was a tall, pale sleazy creature, with a stupid grin that reeked of 'I-am-up-to-no-good-whatsoever' and bared yellow teeth, and his kin usually had their bedfellows slinking around. And as Avera's emotion reader had decided to trip off at that point, she had no idea whatsoever why he had done that. |

"Well, even so... it sounds quite interesting." Learme chuckled, tilting his head. This was true, but mostly in the sense that it was, in fact, magic. So, by extension, he automatically found it interesting. "Yes, Chronicler, Researcher, whatever you'd like to call it. Archive Magic is specialised around analysing and recording magic, after all." He didn't directly comment on the crazy part. It wore away at one's sanity? Interesting. Perhaps there was a way to tweak that. If not... well, being conventionally sane had long since passed him by anyway. He could always just eschew that magic if he decided it was problematic. Reading emotions, though... that explained a bit. Good thing he had been genuinely interested, that would have become exceedingly awkward exceedingly fast. Hmm. Radar wasn't perfect, eh? Still, if he COULD snag that particular technique, he would. Being able to pick up on things around you would be quite nice. At that thought, his eyes flitted around, considering. Which was when he noticed an... individual nearby. The man was not-so-subtly looking at him, and appeared to be grinning like a walking garbage bag. Oooh dear. Keeping an eye on him, Learme subtly readied his hand. A second later, he reared back his arm, and Learme whipped his hand up. "Error Message- 404" A glowing grey hexagon appeared in front of his hand, a large green X on it's surface with code in the background. It was not the only one, however. Other hexagons were just around it, separated by a thin layer of space and little else. A floating shield, spreading out from his splayed fingers, and assembled by his archive magic. The can clacked off it, and it retracted a moment later, leaving Learme staring at the man, eyes narrowed and still smiling. "I'm sorry, did you need something?" The man frowned, and a second later, a few other odd looking sorts began to move out of the alleyway. "Oh. I see." Sighing, he looked over at Avera. "It seems this is happening." |

The man's grin changed into something more like a snarl when his beer can harmlessly bounced off the strange 'energy-screen' shield that Learme had formed in the nick of time. He took in a lungful of air slowly, then let it out in a wrong-sounding cackle. "'Did I need something?' He's asking if I need something." Already, about three other similar looking hoodlums had materialized (they looked alike somewhat, though it was more of the way they were smiling than family relationships) and were shuffling towards Learme and Avera. At the words of their comrade, the three of them, eventually joined by the can thrower, erupted into a fit of laughter, which was more stupid than it was ominous, though they intended for it to sound like the latter. "Maybe we should tell him, boss," one of them said, showing dentition color that matched his "boss"' own. The boss chuckled, then said to Learme: "What do you think we want... freak?" The way he said the last word, it was obvious he was making a lot of effort trying to make it really insulting. Avera looked from the walking garbage to Learme, her expression souring slowly. "I don't suppose they are friends of yours... no, scratch that. They obviously aren't. You know them from somewhere?" By now, the four men had formed a line in front of the duo. "Tell you what," the boss continued, "it's obvious you're one of them mages, so here's what we'll deal. You tell us how you cast that control spell over the little broad, and we let you go scott free. You won't get a better bargain, youknowwhatI'msayin'?" The senseless cackle started again. The only word Avera said then, was: "Seriously?!" |

Oh, repeating the question twice. Dealing with a real criminal mastermind here, clearly. Pinching his nose for a moment, Learme considered just getting out his gun and starting to pop some shots into these people, but... that probably wasn't the best idea. Oh well. Oh god, that laugh. It made him want to remove some tongues. "I... don't know, that's why I asked, anthropomorphic garbage can?" Freak? Really? That wasn't particularly strong. Demon was actually stronger. He was starting to think these people were just making random statements and hoping something would happen. There didn't seem to be any kind of coherent goal being expressed, or information being conveyed. He glanced to the side, looking at Avera. At her question, he frowned at her, spreading his hands. "Know them? Are you kidding? I'm feeling sickened standing downwind of them. No, I've never seen them before in my life, and I desperately hope to never see them again." Shuddering, he wiped hands on his side, looking at them with undisguised distaste. As the group started laughing, Learme cocked his head. "... Literally everything you just said was so wrong, and so stupid, I'm having a difficult time determining what to address first. So I won't." Turning to Avera as he put his arms under his armpits, he cracked his neck. "Well, oddly serendipitous. I assume you do have some sort of combat applications of your magic." He pulled his jumper over his head, revealing one of the reasons it seemed so bulky. Beneath it was his robes, which fell down over his legs as he dropped the sweater on his luggage. "Just cast a weaker level, and we can kill two birds with one stone. Demonstrate your magic, drive off the advertisements for the local dump." As he said this, the man's eyes swelled with fury. His compatriot's expressions darkened as well. "Hey! Who tha **** do you think you are, talkin' to us like that." Continuing to ignore him, although his hand had inched towards a fold in his robe, Learme's voice took on a sing-song tune. "I can probably show you something cool if you do~" Mostly because as of this moment, he didn't actually have any combat-based spells. His archiving had been sadly sparse so far. |

It was difficult to imagine that people such as these still existed in this world. One could argue that Life was unfair for having some people being less good looking than others, but there was never an excuse for stupidity. And these guys had decided to blend such an untoward mix: ugly looks, worse personal hygiene and blatant idiocy. Well, these lowlife would surely deserve whatever came to them at this point. Avera placed her arms on her hips and cocked her head defiantly. "As far as you're concerned, my dear ne'er-do-wells, I'm afraid no amount of 'control spells', no matter how effective, will bag you any success with any female of any sort, human or otherwise." She turned to Learme. "You know, Learme-san, maybe we should just ignore them. I guess they'll crawl back to wherever they came from..." The creepy looking individuals, now four in number, were by now obviously incensed. Not only had the tall looking freak insulted them, but the short wench was also ridiculing them. It seemed they would have to teach a lesson they were so good at. "I think these punks need to know just who we are," the leader of the lowlifes muttered to his colleagues, as they began walking towards Learme and Avera in a slow, menacing manner. Meanwhile, Avera, was ignoring them as well as she could, well aware that it would only get them angrier. "I don't know, Learme-san; wasting my magic on these louts sounds like... well, a waste. We could just resort to the old 'knuckle sandwich', 'youknowwhatI'msayin'?" She punched a closed fist into her palm and cast a wicked glance towards the hoodlums. She might consider using her powers, if they proved to be more than a handful... One of the hoodlums suddenly pulled his jacket partially off, exposing a tattooed shoulder. "Sure you're now quaking in yer boots, now you know it's the Death Scorpion guild you've crossed..." "That's a strange name for Oshibana's resident sewage cleanup crew. You might want to ditch the tattoos and change the moniker to something more... 'household'. How do you expect to do business with a name like that?" She had such an innocent expression on her face, very few would think she was being sarcastic... Edited by Hadou, Jan 16 2017, 12:22 PM.

Cocking an eyebrow, Learme looked at the assembled refuse. "Ignore them? If you think so, but they seem pretty insistent. I'm not sure that's actually feasible." He shrugged, looking them up and down. "Appealing, but the smell alone..." "Punks? Oh dear, there's more of you? I'm not sure I'll be able to breath if this keeps up." He turned to Avera, shaking his head. "While I would normally agree, I confess to a certain degree of issue here. The least lethal thing I currently have on me is an edged weapon, and I don't actually possess any combat spells that I could easily adjust. I can protect myself well enough, but I'd rather not get in trouble for unduly savaging them. That, and well... my physical strength is average at best." The young man shrugged, glancing down at his skinny, almost bone-like arms. He wasn't exactly weak, and he knew how to punch and kick, but in this case, the enemy had a bulk and likely strength advantage. Not the best idea. He was being honest about his worries as well. He had the claws, and Doorknocker, but both seemed like overkill in this instance, and he was rather worried about getting the guards on his tail if there was an issue. Apparently, though, these were more organised buffoons than he expected. The Death Scorpion Guild... "You're the Death Scorpions?" He stared at them, then blinked. "I've literally never heard of your Clown Guild, sorry." That, it seemed, was the kicker. One of the men roared, and pulled out a set of spiked knuckles, charging at Learme. Whipping his hand up, his eyes glowed and the Error Message shield reappeared, the man's fist slamming into it a moment there-after. The shield actually flickered a bit, and Learme grit his teeth in irritation as he realised the program had almost completed it's runtime. "Oh, that's problematic. Avera, If you wouldn't mind?" His feet skidded slightly on the ground, as the man pounded on the shield, rather ineffectually, but even so. He lifted a hand, managing to open a window on his side, facing her. It bore the message "Error Message Shield- 404 Time Remaining 7...6...5.." As the counter was quickly decreasing, Learme was being forced into a position he really didn't want to be in. |

Avera giggled lightly at Learme's response to the hoodlums' flaunting of their guild. Like him, she had never heard of it, so they were very likely some small fry dark guild, judging from the name of the guild. It would appear that that was the straw that broke the camel's back, for one of them charged, equipping himself with a spiked knuckle and throwing a punch. Avera didn't have to do anything, because Learme put up his nifty shield to intercept the blow, though he informed her that the shield time had run out. As she watched the timer, she sighed... "Hmmm... what makes you think a demonstration would be so...?" The words had barely left her mouth when a brick, which had been lying harmlessly out of the way, suddenly lifted itself into the air, flew over, and smacked the attacking thug upside the head rather harshly. The other three stopped short and glanced around. "What the ****?!" "Who's there? Show yourself!" As the assailed thug dropped senseless to the ground, Avera turned and looked at Learme, then at the thugs, with an almost convincing expression of surprise on her face. However, a slight twitch at the side of her mouth was the telltale sign that something was seriously amusing her. Learme ought to have seen something with his analysis-type magic, so he would know she was responsible. "You might want to be careful, uh... Doom Clown what-did-you-call-yourselves again? Entertainment and Disposal isn't a very smooth mix. You don't need to start throwing such things at yourselves all in the name of appealing to the fans. Aren't you worried you could get hurt? Though, gee, your friend looks really convincing where he is. I'm already impressed." Action

The Error Message Shield vanished, and Learme sighed, slightly annoyed. He really wished that wasn't so finicky, he needed to work on that. As he looked up at the man, he frowned contemplatively, then shrugged. "Feedback?" The man's eyes bulged, and he brought back a fist, when suddenly.... The Thug moaned in pain as a brick slapped the side of his head, bouncing off and landing on the ground with a clatter. The others whipped around, as Learme grinned, and his eyes glowed green. He picked at the traces, and nodded sagely as he determined that it was exactly what he had figured. A Telekinesis technique, used on the brick. Although to go down to that... "Wow, you really are pathetic, aren't you." He tsked as the thugs seemed to swell with apoplectic rage. At Avera's provocation, one of the men made to shove past Learme, going for the girl. The other two were still looking around for whoever threw the brick, but it seemed this one was tired of being accurately described. Learme smiled, and his hand flicked inside his robe, then back out. The thug froze as the cold metal tube made contact with his temple, and turned his head slightly to see Learme grinning at him from just behind, his arm twisted to hold the magical pistol in place. "Oh dear, that wasn't smart. You never turn your back on someone you're fighting, don't you know?" He winked, and then pulled the trigger. With a crack, the man's body was thrown sideways, and he lay on the ground, temple smoking and a bit of blood leaking from the immensely bruised area. He was clearly alive, but concussed as all hell. Avera shook her head as one of the remaining three thugs came for her, obviously too incensed to take much notice of Learme. "I give you good advice, and this is the thanks that I get?" she said in a mock hurt tone. She wouldn't have to spend any energies against the hoodlum, because he soon discovered that it was not safe to turn your back on an enemy. Avera was originally worried when Learme pulled the gun, but fortunately, it did not utilize lethal ammo. Two down, two to go. She figured that she would play with them a little more. Maybe that would also allow Learme to learn more about whatever it was he wanted to learn about her magic. As the two confused hoodlums looked around for a hidden assailant, a trash can lid suddenly and violently clattered to the floor, causing both of them to jump. Avera also looked surprised, though since Learme could 'see' magic, he would know that, once again, she was responsible. "Stop fighting dirty and come out! We're warning you..." one of the thugs threatened to the empty air. Of course, there was no reply. Avera, for her part, was not helping matters. "Now you're afraid of a trash can. How do you really expect me to take you seriously? I mean, you can't even frighten a girl successfully, and yet you flaunt some cliche name that doesn't hold water. Seriously, you should just change your guild name. It sounds so... wannabe." The brick that had smacked one of the thugs senseless was slowly rising into the air, preparing itself for another assault.
