Hey everyone, it's me, your Lord and Savior, your Once and Future King, and your new Admin-for-Life Unlimit Sendo. I'm here to drop some turnbuckle-diving elbows and awesome news. There's been some relatively small updates to rulings regarding summon familiars and single summons. Additionally, there's also been a pretty big update in regards to the AP shop which reorganizes it and adds a ton of new stuff. You can find that in the AP Shop section under Item Creation. Check it out.

"I thought this was a small town. It's almost a circus, if you ask me..."

In all descriptions she'd come across, Avera had expected Oshibana to be a little quiet place, with a solemn train hoot, every now and then disturbing the peaceful atmosphere for a few seconds. To the town's credit, yes, it was actually a small town, but the crowd at the station was more suited to a city. Avera masked her distaste behind a stoic face, as she stepped out of the train and onto the platform. It was to be expected, anyway; this town was a nexus of other towns connected by rail. Expected or not, however, she was not fond of this type of noise, as it got her pretty much disorganized in the head. Good thing she brought her earphones.

Increasing the volume of the lachryma powered gadget, she slipped it over her ears and eventually smiled. With the soothing music, she could easily zone people out and focus on more peaceful things. She thrust her hands into her jacket pockets and walked away from the crowd milling about in the station, idly humming quietly along with the tune that streamed directly into her ears.

Avvie Rey was here in Oshibana for no serious business. Magnolia was actually her next port of call, but it would be a while before the next train showed up. Since she had to wait, if anything, she was not thrilled at the prospects of waiting in the midst of that large, excited crowd. Perhaps she would walk around the city, stretch her legs, see if there was anything attractive or amiss. She would, of course, keep an eye on the time, so that she wouldn't miss her ride.

Not a large 'trending' town, but it seemed bubbly enough, so she was sure she wouldn't be bored.

Slipping off the train, hoisting his trunk, Learme looked around. A bustling place, to be sure. Although, a bit warmer than expected. Opening his luggage, he looked for a lighter sweater. He only had a few, but this one was fluffier. As he fiddled with his things, however, a young girl passed by. Sticking her hands in her pockets, her arms lightly brushed his exposed mess of clothing. It managed, through sheer coincidence, to knock a hankie in line to be caught by a button or some such on her clothing.

Turning, Learme watched his belonging go swinging away. Blinking once, he slammed the trunk shut, and ran after her. "Miss! I say, miss! You have my... MISS!" Sighing mentally, he desperately wished he had a Telekinesis spell available about now, but it seemed unlikely to occur any time in the near future, so he's have to do things the old fashioned way.

Enjoying the soft music, and the feel of the cold, crisp wind against her skin, Avera walked with her eyes shut, allowing her sixth sense (the Personal Space) to guide her. True, her nifty technique was not able to discern inanimate obstructions and objects, but with the large amount of people milling around Oshibana's streets, Avera could use their essences to navigate, much like a bat used ultrasonic vibrations. If everyone veered around a particular spot, then it was obvious there was an obstacle. The distance at which they avoided it would give her an estimate of how large it was, and she would easily avoid it. The same went for smaller debris on the streets, though these were very few and far between. Also, the flow of living traffic easily described the confines of the street, and thus, Avera could just keep herself in its center. Although she moved slowly, she was of little stature, and would hardly cause any traffic issues...

All this was why she did not respond initially to the strange tall man she had brushed past. Of course, her brushing by him was not intentional, and it was rather light, thus leaving her unaware that she had dislodged a handkerchief and was bearing it away, attached to a buckle on her jacket. She may not have seen him, and definitely did not hear him, but as one who never took her Personal Space for granted, she was quick to determine that someone was following her doggedly. Well, truth be told, she was jumping to conclusions at this stage, since the person could have been a hurrying passerby, trying to go about some urgent business. Still, something prompted her to turn around, and she found herself looking into the oddly green eyes of a rather tall individual, who was staring right back at her. With the fixed gaze he had on her, it was obvious he was following her.

His expression showed that he had just concluded saying something. She waited for a second, before belatedly realizing that her earphones made it impossible for her to hear anything anyone would have been saying. Goodness! That could mean that he might have been calling after her for some time now. Her face flushed ever so mildly from embarrassment, and she quickly pulled off her earphones and said politely:

"Excuse me?"

The girl seemed to have headphones on, and be listening to music. As such, the fact that she suddenly turned around was rather surprising. How did she know he was there? It had been just long enough that she clearly hadn't heard him speak... A hunch crossed his mind, and Learme's eyes flickered slightly as he peered at the ethernano. Well, he had been correct that some kind of magic was being used. On the disappointing downside, he had flat-out no idea what on earth it was. Not only was it strong enough that he couldn't make out the composition, it was odd. He hadn't seen anything even remotely like this before, not even that odd girl with the illusions. It may have been a coincidence, but it seemed as though he was talking to a Mage. Quite an interesting one at that.

She stared at him for a second, and there was an awkward pause before she started and pulled off the large magical earphones she had been using. It seemed she probably hadn't been able to hear him after all, and was only now realising this. His smile still firmly in place, he gestured to her, tapping his own side. "Apologies, but you seem to have accidentally made off with something of mine." It was just a kerchief, but owning things was still a bit novel to him. He didn't actually know why he'd need a kerchief, but he had found owning stupid little things like that gave a better impression on people than a more pragmatic set of gear. Odd, but he wasn't going to complain too much. As he lowered his hands, he looked the girl up and down for a moment.

"Hmmm. Pardon my asking, this is a bit silly perhaps... but are you a mage, by any chance? I'm a bit of a scholar of magic, and something about you gives off the air of a Mage." This was technically correct, but not how he knew, naturally. Still, explaining the circumstances didn't really seem necessary. The how of his knowledge was unimportant, after all. Still smiling, he awaited an answer.

Avera blinked at the tall man in confusion, and her eyes followed his hand which tapped his side as he explained his reason for following her. Then, realization dawning in, she quickly glanced towards her own side to see a handkerchief smugly fitted to her jacket via a buckle. She frowned at the inanimate object, as though she willed it to explain the reason for its strange actions. Gently, she loosed it from off her and handed it to him somewhat gingerly.

"Sorry about that. Here you go, sir."

His next question got her mildly suspicious. No offense intended, but she felt she had a right to be on her guard when a very tall (in her opinion) guy, with unusual eyes and sharpened teeth, asked her a question which bordered on personal. He claimed to be "scholar of magic", and she couldn't be too sure, but it seemed his eyes had given off a sort of glow when she'd just set her eyes on him. All such evidence likely set him as a mage himself, but normally, mages were not usually interested in other mages, unless they had an express reason to be. Thus, she could come to the conclusion that he had a "reason" to ask the question.

Avera was, by nature, courteous, and was not one to just turn down a question or request. However, she was inquisitive herself as to why this strange man was interested in her. Silently focusing her psychic powers on him, she realized that he did not bear any hidden animosity towards her, so far. His question seemed to be borne out of curiosity, rather. Perhaps she could oblige him... but it would be no fun making it so easy for him.

Folding her arms across her chest, the left edge of her mouth twisted mildly into a slight smirk, she looked up at him and replied in a playful tone:

"Well, that is an interesting question... much more interesting than it could be termed silly. Why would you think I'm a mage? Might I comment that I'm quite interested in knowing what birthed such a supposition? There must be some dead giveaway that would have informed you. So, what was it? The height? Or the glasses? Or the suspicious jacket, hmmm?"

Taking the hankerchief back from her, he nodded gratefully and stowed it away in his suitcase with a quick motion. Good to have that back. It seemed his question had gotten her a bit on edge, though. Best to proceed carefully. He didn't really want to tick her off, especially as he had zero idea what her magic was at the moment. There was SOMETHING going on, but that was about the size and shape of it. Well, best to play it cool, see how she reacted.

She didn't seem too bothered, thankfully. In fact, she seemed rather amused by something. How to play this... lying flat-out would be amusing, but if she was already suspicious... no, as much as it pained him, he should probably play this one close to the chest. Relatively, anyway. Gesturing to the side of his head, he nodded at her headphones. "Well, it was those things, really. You didn't seem to be paying attention, and you had to take them off to hear me, so you couldn't have heard me calling for you, then." He spread his hands, shrugging. "Then, for no apparent reason, as I got close, you turned around and focused on me."

Gesturing around, he pointed out the crowds. "Not sure how you'd have done it, but something tipped you off. I don't see any mirrors or large puddles around, so I can only assume you somehow used magic to tip you off that I was coming. Summoned creature watching from behind, maybe?" Whatever it was, he really wanted to figure it out. It was tantalizing, almost. Technically speaking, that was all true. It wasn't what made him sure of her magehood, but it was what caused him to suspect, if nothing else. Shrugging, he blinked languidly, doing his best not to actively draw attention to the fact that his green eyes were looking a bit unusual at the moment. If one looked very closely, they might notice the green was now a jet black, with hundreds of green 1s and 0s changing on it's surface.

Avera's smile widened slightly on hearing his explanation. It was quite accurate and logical, and it was a good reason for him to suspect that she was a mage. Be that as it may, his assumption could still be discredited, if one thought hard about it. Judging by how he had identified himself, as a scholar, and his response to her question, Avera felt she could safely conclude that he was an intelligent person. Perhaps she would act evasive once more, before giving him his desired answer.

"Quite the observant one, aren't you? I'm impressed. But um... what if there was absolutely nothing magical about what I just did? What if these... 'things' are indeed the magical trinkets and I'm just your average, normal girl? Or, what if I was some sort of secret agent, and these earphones were my means of interacting with some hidden asset, who might be a very normal individual, as opposed to a- how'd you put it: 'Summoned creature watching from behind'?"

Her smile became a bit more mischievous. "Perhaps he said, 'Look out! There's someone onto you!' Startled, I turn around, and there you are, coming right after me." The mischief dimmed, but the humor remained intact. "Could be all these things..."

She had just noticed something funny about his eyes. They were green, alright, but besides the unnatural shade, they seemed to be shifting; in what way she couldn't really say. If she got closer, she might be able to know for certain, but she was just interacting with him for the first time, and it wasn't even often that she was this conversant around people. Perhaps it was because she could identify that curiosity that was shared by all scientists on identifying something of interest.

"Might I make the assumption that you're a mage yourself?"

She may as well get some answers form him if he was going to get some out of her.

To his surprise, the girl brought up a rather good point. It was entirely possible for there to be a mundane explanation to all this. Well, sort of mundane, anyway. Being a secret agent was rather outlandish. Although, he did have a retort for that. "Well, two things. One, if you were a secret agent, you probably wouldn't be telling me. Two, if that was the case, you probably would have found some way of appearing to have noticed me, or contrived to take off your headphones, so as to not draw attention to it." He shrugged. "You being a mage seems like a much simpler answer, to be honest."

"They could have, but you wouldn't be a very good secret agent if that startled you, and I'd think he would have noticed the handkerchief get snagged to you. Although, that being said... a summoned creature seems less likely. Someone in the crowd would stick out, and if it was flying or something, he would have seen you bump into me, so you would have known why I was chasing you, or been less surprised." He was almost talking to himself now, puzzling it out. "So... it must be enhanced senses, or something that let you see me when I got close." It sounded off, but he felt like that was a closer answer.

Ah, yes, he had been expecting that. Ah well, he had been hoping to not be as blatant, but well.. tit for tat. She clearly wasn't an idiot, and he wasn't going to get anything from her if she got offended. "You may. Was it the eyes, or just a guess? Either way, I'll be honest. The first bit just got me suspecting. So I confirmed it." Making an L shape with both his hands, he formed a box, then flicked it wider. A window appeared in the air, dark grey with green tracing and green text. Flicking it to the side, he tapped for a second, then a number of others appeared, slowly orbiting around him. The crowd parted a bit, people looking surprised, before he nodded and dismissed the vast majority, leaving a single window under his hand, about chest height. "Learme Melchance. A practitioner of Archive-type Magic. Impressive spellwork by the way, it's far too strong for me to make heads or tails of it at whatever level you have it at currently."

Avera slowly gave the tall man a round of applause, a mildly fascinated expression evident on her face. Most people seemed not to like thinking hard about particular issues, and would very much prefer to get a straight answer. The way he analyzed her responses indeed showed that he was a person of high intellect, and keen observatory skills. She opined that he just might be a sort of scientist, perhaps like herself.

"Bravo. Bravo. That's very astute of you," she said, just before he answered her simple assumption. Of course, it was very easy for anyone to come to such a conclusion, due to the tall man's strange physiological composition. But the man went a step further to give a mild demonstration of his magic and introduce himself. Avera, by now oblivious of the little crowd that had been disturbed by the emergence of the green and dark grey floating panels, watched these windows with rapt attention. She gingerly poked at one of them, only for her finger to pass through it as though it were not even there in the first place. So, this was Archive Magic. She had heard about it in the Academy, but had never seen it in operation up close.

Her eyes shifted from the remaining window to the man's weird green eyes. He had just introduced himself as Learme Melchance, and from what he had just said about his magic, it seemed to be able to analyze other magics, though to what extent, she couldn't say.

"Honored to meet you, Melchance-san. I'm Avera. Avera Rey Cygnus. 'Avvie' will do, if you find the name too long. Yes, I'm a mage, and yes, you could say my magic may have something to do with enhanced senses. You can tag my magic as... psychic. You know, all those mind-jumbling shenanigans."

She extended a hand. This was a point where she was very interested in his reaction. She'd seen how most people had reacted to the knowledge that she was a 'mind-mage', as some people called such mages, in the past.

Giving a shrug, Learme inclined his head for a moment. "Very kind of you. I do try." It helped when one was designed to be a living logic engine, but he felt he could take some credit after all. Watching as the girl poked at one of the panels, he had to chuckle slightly. That might have actually done something, but it was from the wrong side, and that window was view-only. Still, it was an understandable response

Extending his own hand, Learme shook it. "Ah, no need for formalities. Avera, you say?" As she finished speaking, he stiffened, staring at her blankly for a moment. A mind mage? She used psychic-based abilities? That would explain how she had picked up on him. A moment later, a slight line of drool escaped from his mouth. "Mind... Magic? That sounds absolutely FASCINATING." Clasping his hands, Learme's eyes were almost sparkling. "I take it you don't mean sheerly telepathy or telekinesis alone. Oh, that is uncommon indeed." He had so many questions, they were ramming into each other in their haste to escape his mouth. "Did you pick up my mind thinking about you, or use your ability as a radar, or perhaps use some form of ability to give yourself three-hundred and sixty degree vision?" Pausing, he tapped his chin. "Wait, that last one doesn't sound right. Disregard that."

He leaned back and forth, looking her up and down. "Either way, color me fascinated. My magic usually allows me to analyse the magic of others, though there are a few exceptions. One is if the person is significantly stronger than me, though if they use less energy I can get a peek. Some things I can understand, but just enough to get insight, not enough to reproduce." He shrugged, still considering. "Do you mind if I ask what your magic does more specifically?" Inwardly, he was jumping up and down like a kid on Yuletide morning. He desperately wanted to get his hands on some of this. Especially if she had telepathy. "Oh, scratch your back and vice versa, yes? Archive magic is primarily about analyses, but a sufficiently skilled mage can also connect people via telepathy, transfer information, and even create windows in a shield-like formation." He harumphed. "Unfortunately I've only really figured out that last one so far."
